No idea if you're actually reading this, but here in Germany they're selling stone veneer in hardware stores. That's basically ultra thin slices of actual marble or other stones and it's really affordable. So that's yet another way of getting a similar look for less.
Interesting… I wonder how they put it together to appear thicker … it could be worth it hoping it’s thick enough to stay intact.
@@tinam761 I imagine you'd have a slice running along the edges like they do in woodwork.
This is what I plan to do. Just put the pretty stuff on top of the existing wood I have
They sell it in the US as well. You need to make sure to purchase quality products and install them properly or you can have issues with moisture underneath.
Best 2024 trend might be to follow your own design heart, be smart with your budget, make your decor look like YOU, not like anyone else (or a catalog), and purchase with a long (10+ years) ownership timeline in mind. Better for the planet, too.
This unoriginal comment is always posted on these types of videos. It's exhausting
@@ladylove34 Funny that because I haven't seen it before. And good advice is rarely exhausting unless you're not in the market for good advice in which case, you have my sympathies.
@@bluecurlygirl 🎯🎯🎯
@@bluecurlygirl sorry, i dont consider it "good advice"; i consider it an insult under someone's video simply informing us about trends. Nowehere does she say that you have to follow any trends at all. So, good advice would be: Don't watch videos about current trends if you don't like hearing about or following current trends. If you actually need advice from a random YT comment in order to do your own thing in your own home, then you have my sympathies!
@@ladylove34 And that's exactly what she said. Don't follow trends, buy something that will last years as it's better for the environment and buy to suit your own unique self. And I'm always in the market for good advice so I don't need anyone's sympathies for that. Whatever peeved you I hope your day improves. In fact I hope your week ahead is better. Mind yourself 💚
What’s better than a CZcams designer who says “Pop off! Pop off!” to hypothetical antagonists? Nothing is better. 😂 Kiva, you have a consistently great perspective, and you’re so much fun! ❤
I've got to say, my parents got a sofa in 2005ish and got it with scotch guard and it's still spotless.
Yessss exactly!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I reapply scotch-guard once it doesn’t topically wipe clean anymore and it TOTALLY makes things last and we live hard on our stuff with kids and dogs… that white boucle upholstery? No f-ing WAY!
@kateclough7258 haha trueee I have a small boucle ottoman and my cats use it to look outside the window but it's already a bit discolored!
I love this topic!! Thank you for leveling the playing field and reminding us that people at every budget/income level deserve the homes they love, and sharing creative ways to make that happen. I really loved the subway tile example.
I recently did a bright blue penny tile backsplash in my kitchen and I love the effect. Maybe I was thinking by forward 😊
Omg that sounds so beautiful!! 💕
Maybe I was too 😂 I’m design challenged, but I know what I like when I see it, so about three or four years ago, we ripped out our fiberglass tub and my husband built a spa shower and the tile I picked out was penny tile in different shades of blue. I absolutely love it!!
Pretty sure scotch guard contains PFAS aka forever chemicals (John Oliver last week tonight did a great segment a few years back). Companies have come out with PFAS free alternatives like Nik Wax it’s an easier application than scotchguard because you can treat fabric in your washing machine, but they also have sprays.
How about just buying high pattern so you don’t have to worry about seeing stains all the time. I’m against chemical sprays on my furniture. Never did it never will.
Scotch Guard performs well but it is definitely not the best environmentally and health wise.
Just learned this today 3m is paying out big $$$ because they hid the fact that these chemicals harm and never leave the body. Bad stuff go for the alternatives!
White, & crème is just not practical with kids. You can add light color pillows, blankets, accessories, things that can be washed and cleaned.
Creepy! I just told my husband last night, "I wish they had more design videos for us peasants becoming new homeowners!" 😂 Thank you 🙏❤️
Haha I love uu!!! N u r not a peasant, the non rich ppl lyk me n u(who should be rich, but aren't probly because we would give it all away) but aren't rich because we are rich in life!!!
I love that green is trending. I’ve decorated with green since I was a kid. (except for the living room of my last apartment, and I regretted not including any green!!) it’s also the one color and decorating idea that my husband and I are 100% aligned in
Boucle reminds me of popcorn ceilings!!
Omg…….
YES!!! Not everyone has thousands to spend on decor. YOU ROCK!!!
Hi Kiva! Love your videos! I was happy to hear Nick Lewis mention you in one of his videos. My two favorite CZcams designers’ world collided in that moment! Joyful!
Did he? I watch all his videos. I did not hear!
I second that!
I've been using scotch guard for YEARS, per my mother. I just spilled an entire drink on my light grey couch last week and was PRESSED. I cleaned it up as quickly as I could and prayed to the Scotch Guard guardians.... 24 hours later and you couldn't even tell where I spilled the drink 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
😂 I laughed so hard when you said the post modern furniture people were being serious about their prices. That really hit me 😅 people do me out here trying to sell their $17,000 Lego tables
Highly Sensitive People and people with Misophonia, like me, really appreciate closed concepts. It's very overwhelming to hear people eating wherever you are in the space, or to feel pressured to socialize when you're not ready to. I think neurodiversity really needs to be considered in interior spaces.
100%. For one thing I can not concentrate whilst cooking with others in my kitchen. No open concept for me.
My favorite is the missions/craftsman style, the slats, the nice clean lines, then I can warm it up with accessories but I really don't need that many, it's the style I just keep coming back to & I LOVE oak! I HATE painted wood with a burning passion! Wood has grain for a reason, you stain or even a clear-coat polyurethane & it's gorgeous, timeless & if well cared for, a piece that you can hand down from one generation to the next.
Yyyaaaaaaaasssssss!!! I love oak furniture. We invested in a beautiful handmade oak mission style bookcase with a glass front. It will be a family heirloom for sure.
I'm sitting here in my "world traveler, bohemian" house just so unbothered by trends. 😊
I love this! love your honesty and helping us "non-rich" peeps achieve a gorge look on a budget. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!! 💕
the glasses! the hair! the blazer! so fab. this video is awesome, i was just looking into couch ideas for my style + literally nothing was under $4k in one article, most were 7-12k like BRUH. appreciate you Kiva!
Your humor and personality are so refreshing
! Love your POV!
Aw thank you so much!! You’re too sweet :)
I LOVE how REALISTIC KB is!!!!
Love that you’re talking about AFFORDABLE interior design! Would love to see more videos like this.
I love color blocking and neutral look. I'm also a nature gal so I love bohemian chic look. Organic material is so comfortable and cute to me. So that's why I decorate my apartment that way. I need to be around nature and bohemian chic is my go to.
Completing the design options with tips that are functional.
Great vid! I’d love to see one about adapting these trends to your OWN style with accents and smaller pieces. Most of us are “eclectic” already, so blending in something fresh is easy.
Amazing video idea!! Thanks so much, Kat! 💕
LOL @ "If you sit on the sofa someone's gonna throw hands" 😂 That's the furniture that *definitely* goes in the "Look and see" room. (Like the "Grandma rooms" back in the day) I enjoyed this vlog!
Kiva, I really like that picture behind you in this video! I love the swath of purple! It would be interesting to see a video about how you are affordably incorporating new designs into your home. Have a great day! 😊
That’s an amazing video idea!! Thanks Shelley! 💕
I have a sectional made of a light tan colored microsuede, i keep it nice with a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol in it, and a white towel to scrub it with. I've had it since 2009 and it's been through a ton of company and 2 babies, still looks new.
I went to RH for the first time in Jacksonville and it changed my life lol I love it so much
Kiva, thank you for your transparency, honesty and not giving in to any unpopular opinion. You are true to yourself! Your ideas are great and like you said not everyone's cup of tea! But for those that are here for it? Great ideas!!!! ❤
Thank you for this! Growing up (I’m 60ish) my family and friends families, etc rarely changed decor. And this keeping up with trends esp the constant mfr of paints, and the mining of stone and the trees, etc we need to seriously consider what it’s doing to our planet. Also, most of my life I rented and therefore never changed paint. Instead I would find King or Q size sheets, or cool Indian motif and tack them to the walls (not completely flat).
I never liked open-concept I don't want to sit on my sofa and look at the stove. Semi-open is fine
As one of the “non-rich”, I loved this video! I’m trying to save to get a “good” sofa that will last, to design off of. I recently purchased a chaise, which I love, in a neutral color. I picked a fabric that had some texture, (Thank you, by the way!), and has varying shades of warm grey, woven through the ivory fabric…tres cher. Yikes! So thanks for the reminder on scotch guard. I’ve been being paranoid about spilling something, (like you, I eat while sitting in the living room), to the point of not enjoying the chaise! Before it gets stained, I’ll get ScotchGuard, so I can start enjoying my purchase! Just an FYI: I hope your feeling as good as you look!
Finally 🙋🏽♀️ Thank you! Each room in my home has it’s/my own style personality. Just a change of colors, not too matching every rooms ,I’m into lots of corners of charming items. I love my “stuff😂😆😂!Thanks for sharing ❤️🙏🏽❤️
First time viewer, love this video. I’m a flipper so this is an important topic for me. Thank you for your authenticity. ☀️
Welcome!! Thank you so much for watching :)
This video earned you a new subscriber ... I greatly appreciate when people are realistic that most of us aren't in the rich upper class budget level
Welcome!! So happy that you’re here :)
Intro is spot on. Thank you for thinking of the majority of us and being practical. This is the content we need.
Thanks so much for watching!! So happy you enjoyed it! 💕
I like the different texture and materials of the subway tiles set in a chevron style…. Love the colors used as well…
I love Scandinavian style.. I am from Canada so it makes sense. I’m sure this is out of style, but I love it.
I went from Glam to RH inspired to warmth!! Loving the Warmth vibes!!
I love this video. One thing I have found that is often not sad as well is when you need a piece of furniture, shop thrift stores, strip, Stan, paint. There are tons of CZcams videos that show how to do this and it’s not that hard. You can have a beautiful sideboard piece that is real solid wood for less than $50.
If you are going to buy brand new, get the best quality you can afford . In the long run, this will end up costing you less because you will not have to replace it every few years when it breaks.
I absolutely love updating my living spaces! Fortunately for me my circle of people that frequently visit my home couldn't care less about the latest interior design trends 😂 I've mastered the art of filling my spaces with things that make me smile. Fortunately, I am blessed to be able to pull it together in a manner that is esthetically pleasing to the eye ❤
At last a new video!!!! I missed these I love your advice . Hope you are doing great
Buying tiles that resemble marble is a choice that I really appreciate. They are beautiful, you got the look and, not a little consideration, you don't have to worry about water, oil or spills or acids. They are totally maintenance free apart the usual cleaning. Good for you!
I really love your channel! I admit, I have done some of the the things you mentioned not to do. But, I see the error of my ways thanks to you. You have some wonderful ideas and I think the way you present your ideas. Keep up your great videos! Thanks so much 😄
Aww, you’re so kind 🥹. Thank you! I appreciate this comment more than I could possibly express.
I’ve always loved design. It’s such a great talent especially when you have a little space to work with. Seeing people make small spaces into something amazing is just great.
This veteran designer appreciates your message. Thanks! 😘
Loved the trend breakdown! I’ve seen so much warm minimalism all over social media but didn’t have the right terminology to describe what I was seeing. Also never heard of boucle before, so thanks for that tip especially!
I found the descriptions of the different style categories very helpful. RH Chic, Wabi-Sabi, Post Modern....thank you.
I love love LOVE "warm minimalism!" but my life cannot support all those light colors.
I have blue hair, two 100 lb pibbles, 2 cats... and a husband.
I'm living in that GREY era forever and always-- but! there is a lot of texture, tints/tones/shades of grey with natural textiles and beautiful medium-toned woods with lovely grains.
WHEN YOU HAVE "BLUE" PETS, YOU CHOSE THE GREY LYF. It helps soo much!
If you DO want to live this Warm Minimalism life, wait a year.
You'll find everything in thrift stores, FB marketplace, and on the sidewalk-mainly in rich neighborhoods.
I scored some seriously amazing Scandinavian Design oversized armchairs on the streets, yo! ground score of a lifetime!
With my recent new build, instead of a tile backsplash, I opted to continue my IKEA quartz countertop about 18" up the wall.
It was affordable, it's durable, it's STUNNNINNGGGG, and takes zero maintenance (no grout BS).
It ended up costing less than tile and the FLOW of the kitchen.... it's so very calm and inviting.
And i'm KICKING myself for not even considering scotch guard. my counter stools are destroyed cuz cats. I;ve scrubbed them 20 times already. stupid.
I've been designing my house with an RH inspired look for the last 2 years, even though it wasn't the 'favorite' influencer style and it was considered outdated, I still found good dupe pieces. I like the clean lines, clean look and the black, gray, white and beige.. Makes my art stand out too. I'm planning on a black linen sofa next.
Am I the only one that thinks RH is ridiculously expensive??? 🥴
You are not the only one. I think they are way overrated.
Thank you so very much for this video. I love your sense of humor too.
Thanks for watching!
I'm just seeing this video. Thank you. I stopped watching design videos on CZcams since everything seemed to be for those with money to spare. I enjoy those who thrift a d do days. This video is so relatable. Again thank you👍
Great video, thank you. I think walls should only ever be white, I don’t care if that goes out of style, I’m never having any other color.
I love this topic! I love how you consistently (and emphatically!) remind us that we can have a beautiful home even if we are not wealthy. I love to travel and bring home items made by local artisans (not "touristy" knick-knacks and souvenirs but made by hand using natural materials). I would love to see a video about incorporating them without making my home look cluttered. Off-topic comment: I really, really have to pay attention when watching your videos because you talk sooooo fast! LOL! I'm a non-native English speaker and you keep me on my toes! I don't mind though, I love your videos. :)
Slow the video down! 0.75x!!! It helps! I watch everything in 1.5-1.75x but she;'s the only YT'er who I CANNOT DO THAT WITH.
Thank you for this, I also struggle but I'm invested in this channel 😊😊😊
@@mapeom Me too! :)
I seriously love your opinion on home interior. I need your advice on flooring-laminate vs carpet?
everything about this video is GENIUS as always
I love that you touched on this topic!
Girl!!! You look fabulous! We can def see that hard work! Love it!
This is exactly the video I’ve been looking for! I can’t think you enough 😊
love this topic!! Perfect for the majority of us design enthusiasts
Hahaha everyone saying to talk slower, meanwhile I’m over here loving you energy! I didn’t even know scotchgard existed. Loved hearing you thoughts on this! 💕
Man I love RH style I think that will be coming back
Before I start seeing your video I wanted to say thank you for the support and keep the real people that love decorations with a budget
I love and so look forward to your content. This video is great. Thank you! Please keep it up!
Aw thank you so much Linda!!! 💕
I love your no nonsense approach! Tfs
Love this video Kiva!! Thank you so much 😊
This episode was awesome! KB made me laugh so many times. Lastly, before I knew how polarizing boucle was I bought a boucle chair. Yeah, it reminds me of terry cloth sometimes but somehow I made it work design wise and people love sitting on it when visiting.
As always, EXCELLENT ideas! ✨
Thank you so so much!!
Love this topic. After all that’s why we are all here. To achieve a beautiful home on a budget. ❤
ps: I bought my first two cans of Scotchguard a few weeks ago.
I feel soo adult FOR YOU just reading this. LEVELING UP, MANDY!
I love you and your direct honesty! I want a beautiful house, but I don’t have the budget for a luxury designer. You really help me feel great about what I can do! Thank you so much!!!
Kind of off topic, but I really like the colors of the art behind you! Maybe I’m wrong and it’s just the lighting, but I really love the pinky and purple colors! Are you experimenting more with colors? I’m not sure, but the pink/purple seems different than what I’m used to seeing from you!
Hi, Ashley! Thanks so much. I made it myself. It’s brown and maroon! I wanted custom art on the frame, so I had fun on the iPad!
Oh, I love it! I’ve been thinking about doing some diy art myself because large scale art can be expensive!
You are so real! Love ya oodles and gobs!
Thanks so much Eleanor!! 💕
Thank you. BTW, I love your glass frames
RH dupes is always appreciated. More please 😊
I'm poor and Boucle is awful!
What don’t you like about it?
When you have cats everything ends up looking boucle 😅
@@berylcomar lolololol came here to say exactly this 😊
As always, EXCELLENT ideas!!✨
😊
I've been doing mint green/ blue green themed rooms these past few years. Love that under water, serene feel it gives me. Does that count as green?
It's very admirable that you created topics like this for your specific audience. Lovely! Thank you for all of you tips and recommendations! 🥰💯
Thank you so much for watching!! 💕
I like the structured way you present…they are all also useful information. 😊
I'm always late to the party when it comes to home trends. This is the youtube channel I needed in my life because you just explained why I'm always behind. 🤔
Love your videos. Love your personality.
You’re amazing! Love this video!

You and Nick Lewis are my favourite interior designers on youtube. So funny and charismatic and I love your aesthetic.
Thank you! Most of us can’t afford expensive trends, so these ideas are helpful.
I'm in love with Fig & Farrow's Bancha green. 😘 Love your channel!
KB you are my fave interior designer on You Tube. Thank you always for keeping it real, sensible, funny, oh so stylish and on trend. I adore you and what you bring, leaving all pretense in the dust. “Catch me outside and I’ll fight you on it.” I’m dying 😆
