Our broom-fearing electron guy is here
🍻
Wow...sweet...it is great to see you...while I have you here...a longer version of this comment got deleted when I posted in on your original upload...not sure what made YT ax it, but here is a version that has stayed posted. I only do this because I hope this is actually you, and because I know that you are the kind of historian who wants to know if something that he knows is actually not true...if you know what I mean.
US public opinion towards the war was not monolithic from 1939 to 1941 as you describe at 10:17...Gallup polling data proves that it shifted sharply towards favoring US entry into the war by November 1941. FDR's ability to get the draft passed in September 1940 and then Lend Lease in March of 1941 tracks with the US public's shift of attitude towards doing more and more to help defeat Germany, even at the risk of being forced to actually get into the war. By November of 1941, 68 percent of Americans said it was more important for Germany to be defeated than it was for the US to stay out of the war...sources for this data are readily available on the web.
You will find them if you look for how did public opinion about entering WW2 change between 1939 and 1941...then find the article on the US Holocaust Memorial Museum site, among others.
Also...TIK did a great video on why Bitchler had to declare war on the USA that you really should watch. Short version is that Germany already had "touched the boats" by sinking US merchants and warships in the Atlantic, and Germany needed to touch a LOT more of them if they were to have any chance to defeat the British or the Soviets...or anyone else for that matter.
"Dead, broken or pregnant " did you resemble that remark? Semper Fi.
These are all urban legends.
@@AmericansLearn Just like Warrant Officers.
"...Dead, broken or pregnant...." As A Marine vet, I am fine with that statement.
Kit doesn't like the Jedi because the lightsabers remind him of crayons that he can't eat
The spicy crayons.
77th division, Weaponized angry Dad energy.😅
The 75 men Doss saved wasn't accurate. He probably saved 100 or more, according to eye witnesses and reports from his unit. But Doss was modest, and said he saved maybe 50. So, the Department of Defense went ahead and put 75 men on his Medal of Honor citation, to meet him halfway.
Not only that but he also took time to save some of the wounded Japanese soldiers. I've never heard a definitive number and I don't know if they know but just saying it's amazing. He was trying to save Americans he took the time to try and save some of the Japanese wounded. He really was all about saving lives no matter if they were the enemy or not
I have no documentation to back this up, but I'd imagine not everyone lowered ended up a survivor. Maybe they just counted who got to go home.
Dead, Broken or Pregnant?! ALL 3 DAMN IT! Ooh-fucking-RAH!
The 77th Infantry Division is basically a bunch of guys joining the Army later than everyone else either by volunteering or being drafted, and they only went into battle to get coffee and donuts, but the Japanese drank all the coffee and ate all the donuts, so the only option left was to kick their asses, and these guys DID!
The 77th ID is just proof that accomplishing the impossible gets you rewarded with even more impossible tasks
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
All my memories gather 'round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
I hear her voice in the mornin' hour, she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
Drivin' down the road, I get a feelin'
That I should've been home yesterday, yesterday
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
Take me home, country roads
Take me home, (down) country roads
Take me home, (down) country roads
I love this song.
Beat me to it...
After Internet Historian I always hear the poorly sung version in my head, it's a curse
My company and platoon had a 38 year old, in 05, the literal oldest you can join. He did pretty damn good overall, struggled in some ways, us young guys didn’t, but he learned just fine and faster than a lot, was almost always squared away. And we young guys struggled in ways he didn’t, and knew, he shelled teach us a lot of life lessons, that being said. We gave him unending shit as an ancient relic, ahaha.
As a Canadian, the scariest thing I can imagine militarily is a division of reupped 40 year old U.S marines led by an angry 50 year old Canadian vet. and two U.K. RSM's.
Now we need to know what is your favorite flavor of crayon.
"The Marine Corps...we're known as philosophers..."
crayon eaters
"Warrior poets..."
crayon eaters
"Uh...theologians"
crayon eaters
"And we discuss backgammon tactics."
you talk about your favorite colors
😜😂
@@AmericansLearnJust think about your favorite beverage & figure out which crayons has the closest resemblance in terms of color.
Case in point, Lemonade = Yellow.
Wine= Either dark-red or purple.
Ice cold Beer= Bronze.
@Delpix722 pretty sure he was saying red is his favorite flavor
So red?
The 77th Division was like fine cheese and wine. Cheese as in it gets really hard and dence perfect for cracking your teeth, and wine as in even a taste of it is enough to knock you out cold 😂.
Fun fact in the hacksaw ridge movie if you look during his basic training they wear the blue statue of liberty patch which is really cool Hollywood actually though that far into it.
As an American Citizen, in a hardcore military family (Papa was a Marine, two of my three older brothers are Marines, and I too am a USMC Veteran.), I grew up around 'Old Vets,' and have never doubted their ability to handle sh*t. I love 'The Fat Electrician' and his wit/humor, and his final comment has me rolling! 15,000 angry D.I.'s? (USMC, not Army). Yeah, Hell itself would tremble!
He never said Marines sucked at everything except killing breaking and... Yeah. He said that's what the Marines specialize in. That actually implies a lot of other talents that go into those main jobs. Heck, who would you rather learn marksmanship from; a Marine DI or an Army DS? I would go with the Marine DI any day.
Marine Corp basic standards.
1. Can you spell your name?
2. Can you walk?
3. Are you alive? Yes? You passed!
I completely missed the box of crayons until you brought it out 😂😂😂
When I enlisted in the Marines I was 19 Semper Fi to my Marine Sisters and Brothers.
As another Army Combat Medic from Iowa, I gotta ask... Can you get Chicago style deep dish pizza with crayons as a topping? 😜
The guys sleeping on the I beam in the picture are probably the workplace fatalities that nobody cared about at the time, the ones that lived longer were the ones that thought ahead and made better decisions about their own safety
Hell Divers!!! Mandalorians!!! (former Navy squid here, but the Marines kick ass!)
Since he talked about al capaone there's a channel called tasting history.
Can't spell lost without LT.
To those saying “we came in late”…*cough* lend lease *cough*
My favorite thing is Kit getting heated over the Jedi. 33:48
US Army here, retired in 2017 with 22 years in. "Why does The Navy allow Marines on their ships? Because sheep would be too obvious." Just a bit of professional rivalry from the 160th SOAR. Salute to all U.S. soldiers.
AL…Yours has been the best reaction to this video I have seen. Especially when he’s talking about the explosive loaded kamikaze boats found by the Old Bastards. The Marines paid a high enough cost. That would’ve been absolutely horrendous.
Oh…what’s your favorite flavor crayon? Marines all have one…fess up.🤣
Ernie Pyle was a war correspondent who followed the men in combat. I think a sniper got him.. he was a Hoosier n I think he was from Chesterton, Indiana. He got a Pulitzer...
We had a 32 yr old guy in our company during boot camp, we just called him pops. Most of us were 17-20.
Had a Filipino dude when I went through boot camp that was 34
Sweet.
And he could probably outrun the whole company.
@@benn454 If that's the case, HOLY SHIT!
@@ColtonRMagbylemme guess. Special transfer programs? Had basically 2 PASOC Army Scout ranger and some from PH navy seals shipped to US to have extra Advance training to be brought back and study. I remember one Filipino ranger came back graduated from 75th ranger school. Dude was already a seasoned soldier that got additional upgrades.
@@stalinsoulz7872 Now, THAT'S the kind of man you want as head of your Neighborhood Watch program. I don't know of any special transfer programs, and I wouldn't discuss the deets if I did.
BTW, looked it up cause I was curious about just how much firepower was aimed at the japanese troop transport. If they went by textbook on equipment, and the equipment was still functioning, the 77th ID had 36x 105mm artillery pieces aimed at the ship.
Quick thing, they might have upgraded to the 150mm variety by this point, but I personally didn't bother looking it up because it is a LOT of firepower eitherway.
I don't know which I liked more the original video or your reaction lol well done!
I am now 37yo.. looking back at my 18yo self, i honestly don't believe i would've survived battled with the young, inexperienced mind i had back then. If WW3 is to brake out tomorrow and i had a choice of joining a bunch of guys my age or older or some 18,19, 20 yo kids who have 0 real life experience, i would take the old guys in an instant. Experience truly is the most valuable asset in any walk of life.
My father served in the PTO and ended up with Eichelberger, Eighth Army. He was 37 when they activated him. This was his second stint in the service. I have both copies of his discharge papers
You are officially my favorite now, dude. Sisko and DS9 all the way!
Dangit... tried to go for a joke but they got all tangled up.
Still, if this channel is a "classroom" then The Fat Electrician is one hell of a guest lecturer whose content I don't mind seeing or hearing multiple times over ;-)
Same.
Hey man, crayons are a real thing before my unit dropped a bunch of Marsoc guys. My navigator went online and bought an ass load of edible crayons and when those marines saw those their eyes lit up and they ate them like nobody’s business
Don’t know how many people from ax watch… but 100 is a cold day.. usual temps range from 110-125 degrees. And if you’re lucky below 95 at night.
Yes, we all begin to boogie when that Outro guitar riff hits
Desert and lack of water? THATS 29 PALMS!
33:23 nah, I see you eyeing that green one in the box. Don’t lie to us like that! XD
38:10 Stories may come and go, but legends never die my friend haha
First time listening to you thank you for not talking over Nick and pausing each time you would be surprised how many people don't know how to do a reaction video👍🇺🇸
I went in the USAF at 17, retired at 37. Was SWEET. Just my $0.02
Gotta love that Duke Nukem reference, or was that Roddy Piper
9:20 bro that's me
the corn is fine btw🤣
The Sisko 🤘 MVP of starfleet officers
31:32 first word out of my word was, "Would the good sir like the blue or yellow crayon today" xD
38:00 starting to rather enjoy recent life choices xD xD
Actually the men with Doss said that he lowered at least 150 people. Desmond said it couldn't have been more than 20. The army made him accept the number as 75.
Ya don’t need to shave it, but ya need it to shape ur edges
Truth
Kit is akways so wholesome. I cant
the thing people don't seem to realize about the marines is to be accepted you have to have a high score on the ASVAB than you do for the army.
You said "Im with Cisco" and in my head all i heard was "Thong tha thong thong thong" and was greatly confused for a moment.
Once a hoosier always a hoosier
"There is no Dark Side, nor a Light Side. There is only The Force."
You had me at hating on the Jedi, my crayon eating Brother. Don't worry, I definitely don't associate you gents with those evil bastards. After all, the Jedi youth program seems to be a lot like one that existed in Germany in the 30s and 40s...
I was 20 USMC my wife’s grandfather was over 40. He couldn’t enlist in WW1 barely too young. Yut Yut 90-01. Whoever came out with that idea had never been to 29 Palms. If they had then that was for torture on purpose. I’ve been to Hacksaw Ridge was not as tall as the movie makes it look but climbing 15-30 ft while being shot at makes it a hell of a lot higher
Lauren & Kit please check out SCARIEST TORNADO EVER !!! by Pecos Hank. He does the best Tornado Video Breakdowns as he's a storm chaser and really want to see his channel grow more.
Ahh, yes, the day I first joined the USMC, my 17th birthday. Had to wait until I graduated/shipped, but literally my 17th I signed up, back in 04. My mom didn’t want to sign off, told that’s fine, if you are against it that much, then don’t sign, I won’t hate you or hold it against you, as, in no one year. I’ll do it on my own when I legally can, and only needs my signature then. Since before I can even remember, my parents said at 4-5, when I was asked what I wanted to be, my answer was a Marine, no idea why, I can’t remember then, haha. I do know my earliest. Consistent memories of what I wanted to be, 6, was a Marine. Got that one done. Met my goal. Now I just work. Like I used to, since I was 11, haha, good times. I can’t remember who did the video I commented on. But was about Desmond Doss, that legend. I said they were Marines. As they are rightly called, as a Marine, I would never say any army guy or guys are Marines, if they haven’t earned the EGA, but the 77th did, hands down, even if not officially, in what they did/how they did it, they earned our battalion commanders and generals calling them the 77th Marine Division, I knew this, the people who called me wrong. Didn’t know, not really their fault. Is kinda a niche thing. At least before TFE did this vid. The only guys and unit that aren’t US Marines, that deserve being called Marines, they more than earned that, many times over.
"I'm with Sico"
37:55 Marines are very good at teaching both subtraction and addition. . . . . .generally in that order.

Just.. random Jedi wise the 'Grey' Jedi were probably the best people to side with (Understanding the Force is truly supposed to be a balance of light and dark) and they were generally speaking 'Good people' rather then the fanatics who preached light only understanding (or the sith who are their dark side equivalent who actually somehow managed to be worse)
RIP Ernie Pyle.
Man I joined the Marines at 23 and felt old as hell compared to most of the guys.
I was 30 before I saw war.... My son was 28
Indiana nerd much love
The only tears men shed are tears of liquid pride.
Have you read any of Ernie Pyle's books?
52:10 My man, Sisko was a great Star Trek Captain. Deep Space Nine was the best Star Trek, hands down. Don't @ me.
Most 30 years olds do have at least one medical issue and know their way around it
I thought it was the fact they ate crayons, more than they can't read or write.
33:25 Have a snack. 🖍 You aren't you when you're hungry. 🙂
9:25 us hoosiers love ya
I want to see what you were going to say about how about the Marines calling the army marines
Please explain why crayons are standard in Marine mre's?
Oh nick had a infestation of onion cutting ninjas he could probably help you with your roomie lol
How the FE talks about the war game in Louisiana, I'm willing to bet money someone from the 77th was in Hollywood. Watch the Dirty Dozen and the war game scenes, yep. Also, Ernie Pyle, relates to Gomer?
Well ill be looked up ernie pyle..his name shows up on the internet. American journalist.
Mans got to be native. That beard says 30%
They tested radiotion on people in the army. Many died in this.
People in charge suck.
Yes i am a non combat vet. I knew this and still joined.
If you don't have a favorite color crayon, you're not a real marine.
I think in WW2 we were there to kick ace and enjoy ice cream and we did them both for fun
Your best reaction to TFE so far, great job! Do the purple crayons taste like grape?
If I say yes will you try them? i ask for science.
@@AmericansLearn Absolutely!
One of my grandpa’s was attached to them, not a part of them, just attached, as army, he also took place in the Aleutian campaign, before that. Then after. All of Korea. And early Vietnam. Before he was forced out, due to age late 60’s. He was also a total bastard, and horrible. Abusive. Alcoholic man. Not saying he’s right, or condoning that behavior, but there was no help then, especially for those few who served in all 3, but maybe a little slack can be cut for him and others like him. He was no epic hero. But he was there and fought through it all, every day and kept coming back to serve, when needed. He was forced out as an old as fuck E-9, when he finally failed physical standards, repeatedly in Vietnam…mind you, he served in WWII in the Aleutian campaign, then thenn b pacific campaign, most times in the pacific being attached with the 77th, after their division got chewed up and spit out.
Red crayons taste the best. At least thats what I'm told.
We can read and write we are the salamanders of the astartes and the purple crayons taste the best long as its Crayola not those cheap ones. Generic never tastes as good hoo rah
Right now they’re trying to get guys who are out of their enlistment or retired to come back for over $200,000
No disrespect to the Marines but where did that crayon joke even come from?
As a German that has an interest in general military things, the only thing i heard about it was that "Marines like to eat crayons". What's up with that?
It comes from how toddlers will stick practically anything in their mouths and swallow it. So, in essence, it's saying that Marines have the maturity of toddlers. Hope this clears things up.
you only send the marines if you positively absolutely require a thing to be lost, broken or pregnant overnight.
what's your favorite flavor crayon

He literally said from 1939-1941... You're agreeing with what he said. Unless I'm misunderstanding something here.
@@angusfraser-brown1663 He said that public opinion stayed the same, but it did not. He said that from 1939 to 1941 they wanted nothing to do with the war, but that is not correct...as I said the majority opinion changed from being against getting into the war to be in favor of getting in to it.
we send the marines to absolutely break things. we send the army to not break things. and we send the air force to make things pretty. i dont make the rules. i just live by them.
Box below?... crayons?
I'm with warf all the way.

I hate to break it to you but you can get Jedi put as your religion on your dog tags now in the military😂
