When I was a young man listening to this kind of music, I wondered if I would ever sit back and remember my life like this. Everything was new, I liked the music but couldn't relate. Now that I am older, my body and mind broken with the best years way behind me, it feels different. I hear Seger's voice and lyrics, but I feel the sentiment and look back at my own experiences. I hope young people learn to cherish what they have. Life is fragile and really, really short. Don't waste it.

I agree. I've heard Bob Seger songs so many times over many decades, but never really dug deep into the lyrics until a couple years ago. Bob Seger's lyrics paint a picture in my minds eye clearer than almost any other songwriter I can think of. Another criminally underrated songwriter is Neil Peart, the drummer of Rush. Neal Peart also wrote many songs with lyrics that paint a picture in my minds eye. Unless you are a fan of Rush, nobody knows how amazing Neil Peart's lyrics are.

Now, at the ripe young age of 70, the line, "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then", really hits home with me. Truer words were never spoken! J and Amber, you two always make my day. I love that you followed Bob since the beginning so I thought you’d like this story. A friend of mine who is right around 70/72 or so lived in Waukegan illinois. His highschool had a battle of the bands one night at the local roller rink- two unknowns at the time, but Seger was one of the bands. Well, his highschool picked the other band and booed Bob and the silver bullet band off. My friend to this day just kicks himself for being a “dumb teenager” back then. Of course the other band that won never did a thing!! Anyway I love hearing him tell us that story after a couple of beers and a Seger or two song on the jukebox! Too crazy!

Ok, story time, but mine is pretty weak. I grew up in a northern suburb of Detroit in the 60’s. My sister was 2years older and into rock and roll at the time. Bob Seger played at a very small joint she went to called the Teen Center in our town pretty often, it was a non-alcoholic hangout the city put together. But alas, I was too young and withdrawn to go there, but as Seger continued to gain fame I remembered… “hey isn’t that the guy that…?” Much later, in the 90s, I co-owned a record store in the same general area, and Kid Rock would come in with his cardboard box full of home-made “bootleg tapes” to consign in our store. He really was a “Kid” back then… They ALL start at the bottom, some work hard & get lucky, too!

I'm such a huge Bob Seger fan and he was a few years before my generation but my dad's taste in music inspired me to pick up the guitar and force myself to practice my dad was a good guitar player, performer and singer but I just couldn't learn from him at the age of 15-16 so I stopped in a music store in 1989 maybe 1990 and I purchased two chord books full of songs, one was the best of Bob Seger and the other was the best of The Eagles! Not really the music of my generation but music I absolutely loved and really wanted to be able to entertain myself and I just continued to learn and still learning today at 47 years old.
