    My current home has an inground pool and I love it. I've had it about 13 years. Weekly maintenance takes me 15 mins a week. All it is - is a back flush, empty 2 skimmer baskets and add some chemicals - that's it. My homeowner's insurance did not go up. I did report the pool to my homeowner's agent when I had the pool put in and they didn't even want to come out and see it. I already had a 6 foot privacy fence. My electric does go up in the summer months about $75.00 per month. My natural gas bill goes up about $35.00 a month if I run the heater a few hours before I swim. I swim in the evenings to avoid the harsh sun. I pay about $500.00 two times a years, once to open the pool and again to close the pool. I spend about $300.00 a year on chemicals. Total cost to run the pool is under $2000.00 a year. It's a big pool too - 42 feet long by 18 feet wide, 28,000 gallons. I'd rather spend $2000.00 a year for 3.5 months worth of a vacation than $2000.00 for 7-10 days of a vacation. My goal was to have a backyard that feels like a resort when you step outside. I'd say I'm about 80% there. I'm still adding landscaping and flowers, but even now it's a wonderful place of rest and relaxation. I have 3 fountains that are powered by the pool pump - adding the sound of the trickling water is so relaxing. I swim every evening for a couple of hours. It's my retirement joy.

      Back in the 80s, in Maryland, a bad freeze and thaw cycle caused the ground water to push my inlaws pool up out of the ground over 6"on one side. That caused the pool to crack. They ended up having it filled in before they sold their home.

    You had a question from a viewer about solar. We moved to The Villages from Ohio about 20 months ago. Our electric bill in Ohio averaged $275 per month. Our electric bill here averaged $116 per month in 2020. Last month we had solar panels installed on our roof to inflation proof our electric bill. Now instead of an electric bill, we have a loan payment of just under $94 per month. Jerry was right. You don't see many homes here with solar, but I think that's going to change.

    We live in The Villages and have been here for 5 years. We moved to The Villages from nearby Orlando where we had a home for 25 years with a pool. When we moved to The Villages it was a priority to NOT buy a home with a pool. Why? We are busy people who are involved with several activities and even with intentions to use the pool frequently that the reality is that we would not use often enough to justify the costs associated with owning a pool. After owning a pool for many years, it became obvious that even though a pool may feel like a glamorous thing to have that reality sets in and it does not make sense for us.... Just one point of view. When I drive around The Villages, I rarely see people using their pools... think hard about it if you want to consider spending the big $$$...

    Village agent vs. MLS agent......I'm not a resident of the Villages....however, my experience in using an MLS agent is that MLS will negotiate and protect you in the process of buying your home. An agent of a subdivision is only there to sell for the owners of that development. My MLS agent fought for me when the subdivision agents tried to take advantage of my lack of knowledge regarding the buying process. So if I were to move to the Villages, I would probably hire an MLS agent as a consultant to look over the contract of the Village agent.

      @@diannaa5224 not true salt pools still require acid to bring down ph and calcium to maintain levels and conditioners to maintain levels of chlorine that is produced by the chlorine generators that use the salt to generate the chlorine. Plus salt is a chemical that consists of two elements sodium(NA)and Chloride(CI). So yes salt pools do have chemicals.

    • @diannaa5224
      @diannaa5224 Před 3 lety +4

      @@carlshultz9357 Carl - I happen to understand the Periodic Table quite well. Technically WATER is a chemical. LOL! But a saltwater pool will have lower levels of chlorine than a "traditional" chlorine pool because the chlorine is produced at a steady level rather than added to the pool with chlorine sticks or tablets. A saltwater generator produces hypochlorous acid through electrolysis, so when the salt is added it breaks down when salt through the electricity in the generator. If you are DIYing, you'd have to store the Chlorine, which is dangerous. You may also be referring to muriatic acid - also known as Hydrochloric Acid or HCl - (H)Hydrogen (Cl)Chloride, which is needed to balance the alkalinity in BOTH types of pools. In the end, saltwater pools are way less harsh on skins, eyes, hair, and bathing suits and they don't have that chlorine smell - regardless of the NaCl becoming Cl through electrolysis. And they technically take "less chemicals" than a chlorine pool. They are more expensive but far more pleasant to swim in - maybe that's why we use our pool more than others do? Also - we have a pool company that takes care of it, so we don't store any chemicals anyway.

    Just to let you know, if you have a real estate agent- he can go with you to the Villages office and you will be able to work with both of them. But you ave to contact the outside agent first. Also, there are now solar panels that lay against your roof. I don't know if the Villages would allow them.

    I hope you have tons of years and do beaucoup youtube shows. The reality of life is we get older. The reality is nursing homes are for those of us who age but require a lot of assistance that can’t be done at home either because that person is too ill or lives alone or their loved ones don’t have the medical skills to help. Whatever the case. It does not happen to everyone and, in fact, many are living longer and in better health due to medications and better diet and better healthcare policies. In the final analysis, we go with the flow.

    Here in WV we have sink holes also but we call them mine subsidence. They're caused by abandoned under ground coal mines that were left by coal companies.
