As an African I truly hope your soldiers start questioning who and what they fighting for. We’ve seen many of US trained soldiers, rebels and terrorists make coups, civil wars, terrorist attacks even genocides all trained by the US. In Congo, in the Sahel region when son is right now which turned like that with the murder of Gadaffi and the destruction of Libya, in Rwanda with 1994 genocide, the Congolese war that claimed more than 8 millions lives, in Mozambique,etc

You have to understand though that there are multiple hearings like this happening at one time. I'm not saying agree or disagree with you, I'm saying that leadership has many hearings and appointments that require their attention and have to chose what to be present at. As retired Army, I would also say that the General there is more of a figure head than he is a leader of soldiers. The Secretary of the Army there was correct by saying you would need to speak with the the leader of AFRICOM forces. I'm done, here though, I do agree with some of what is said here by the gentlemen of Florida.

I don't know. I grew up in the 20th century---where people actually had to had some qualifications to be hired for important government positions. It's a sin for such high-ranking officials to say, "I don't know," when they have hundreds of subordinates that can give them data on demand.
Saying I don't know is an attempt to deflect blame away from themselves. They know about this stuff. It just became painfully important to them when someone called them on it. Brings to mind a scene from Blazing Saddles.

I never in my 30 years in the Army ever seen a 4 star General NOT know what was going on in his/her command much less having to answer before Congress (At that level) why Soldiers are not getting their very basic care required for Mission Readiness? Both should be "Relieved of Duty"! The General in charge in Niger should have flown back to the US himself load up a C-17 full of supplies for his troops and just bit the bullet when the ish came rolling down hill!
