Best Supplements for Improving Dark Marks

  • Dark spots, Post Inflammatory, Hyperpigmentation, and Melasma are notoriously difficult skin conditions to treat. Many people find themselves on the hunt for the perfect option to clear the dark marks and once the hyperpigmentation is finally cleared the rollercoaster ride begins of trying to keep the spot clear or prevent new marks from showing up. This can become very exhausting as even the very best topical ingredients have their limits.
As we start to approach the warmer weather and venture outside you may want to consider choosing one of the supplements discussed to help fight hyperpigmentation from the inside out. Listed below are the dietary changes and supplements as well as a new prescription pill that is super effective when it comes to treating hyperpigmentation in the right patient.
Up your Vit C by drinking lemon water, eating your colorful veggies etc. broccoli and asparagus are rich in the mother of all antioxidants glutathione. Add antioxidants+ anti-inflammatory spices to your food like turmeric and ginger, drink your green tea and Indulge wisely Red wine and dark chocolate are also rich in antioxidants
The number one supplement that I recommend to my patients because there is mounting scientific evidence showing how beneficial and effective it is at treating melasma and other forms of hyperpigmentation is polypodium leucotomos PLE is a fern plant extract oral antioxidant found in:
    summerready:shop-links.co/173998256420106...
    isdin:shop-links.co/173998251215406...
    heliocare: shop-links.co/173998223749175...
There are some new products on the market worth mentioning that you guys my want to look into I am currently trying the Blur Potion by Zitsticka. It has a nice blend of antioxidants:
In regards to oral prescription medications there is an extremely effective scientifically-backed oral medication for melasma called Tranexamic acid - it works by decreasing melanin synthesis, and decreasing angiogenesis, and significantly reduces the visible appearance of hyperpigmentation its been prescribed for years by our Obgyn colleagues for clotting disorders and it is considered an off label use* Rx required & not everyone is a good candidate) From my patient experience and extensive review of the data, this is one of my favorite options for the appropriate patients who are dealing with stubborn recalcitrant melasma. You absolutely have to talk to your doctor about the risk vs benefits of this medication everyone is NOT a good candidate.
These do not take the place of sunscreen* Sunscreen is still your number 1 defense against any and all forms of hyperpigmentation, These are a fantastic additional option especially for those with stubborn pigmentation.

Dr. Stephens, I'm a new subscriber and LOVE LOVE your channel and the Invaluable skincare information you share especially caring for brown/dark skin--You're a God-send--Thank you very much.🙏🏼😊🏆🙌🏽👏
I'm considering getting a chemical peel done on both my legs to remove the "stubborn hyperpigmentation" left over from some old injuries and for "strawberry bumps". 🤔What chemical peel do you recommend for the legs and/or alternatives for the same--thank you.

I’ve just got some hyperpigmentation spot on my face because I didn’t wear sunscreen for a 20 minutes walk ! By bad but thanks to your videos I found a product with PLE in a France called Dermobiane Solaire, pretty cheap too but with only 300mg of PLE. Anyway thank you so much Dr. Stephens

Thanks for your input... i just started to take this supplement last week. I opted for the brand Summer Ready thanks to your recommendation and honestly i've seen a very quick improvement on my hyperpigmentation and quality of my skin texture. I use it daytime in conjuction with Ulta Md spf 46 for acne prone skin (also your recom). At night i use a trenexamix and/or azelaic serum with pea size low concentration tretenoid. I think i finally found my recipe. I really recommend this supplement but indeed ensure it goes well with other meds or vitamins. Dr i really wanna thank you aswell for all your tips... your are essential and so happy for your generosity to share your knowledge on this plateform. Much love from Montreal (Canada).

Hello and thank you so much for all your wonderful information. Will you please give some brands on zinc that are good for my teenager. Her and I have menstrual cycle breakouts. I mainly only use zinc if I feel a cold coming cause I read it can lower the bodies copper levels. What is your opinion?

It's not black skin weren't made for cold weather when you think about it. In Africa there's only 2 seasons and the lowest degree would be 18°C

The environment is definitely different, I feel the same way whenever I visit Africa. Normally when it gets warmer at least in NYC, my skin acts uppp. But over there I’m completely fine. I don’t even need all the skincare products I use over here, black soap and sunscreen and I’m good to go.
