Characteristics of Obsessive Love:
1. When a person can’t live without you.
2. When a person demands unreasonable amounts of your time.
3. When a person ignores other aspects of their own life for you.
4. When a person shows jealousy toward anything, anyone and any activity that competes for your total attention.
5. When a person follows and checks up on you when you’re not together.
6. Obsessive love begins with intense emotions, flattery, and attention but slowly turns into an unhealthy attitude of possession and dominion.
Love vs. Lust:
1. Love is person-focused - Lust is pleasure focused.
2. Love gifts - Lust grasps (John 3v16).
3. Lust feels like love.
4. Lust is passion outside of principles - love is a passion within principles.
5. Lust is desiring the forbidden - love is delighting in the presence, promise, and process.
6. Lust needs bad friends - love is surrounded by good mentors.
7. Lust seeks isolation - love seeks community.
8. Lust forces sex - love initiates marriage.
9. Lust is now - love waits.
10. Lust hurts - love heals.
11. Lust does not last - love grows with time.
12. Lust gets punished - love gets rewarded.

I’m healing surviving and thriving by the grace of GOD! Lord I’m trying to balance everything on my own, but Lord I feel like I’m failing miserably as a single mother. Both sons are special needs I’m so overwhelmed trying to support them on my own. I’m struggling to make ends meet, to pay bills, and to put food on the table for my children. Jesus guide me and give me strength. Help me be a better mother.
Amen so much truth Pastor. I'm in a relationship for 14yrs and in the recent 2 yrs idk why I started obsessing over my partner. I was far away from the Lord. One day I was in despair giving him a speech of everything he was doing wrong. what I want from him, how I want him to show me his love etc....right after that speech sitting across from my partner, God spoke to me. He said that's what I want from you. All of a sudden it became clear I wasn't "toxic" but I was obsessive. It was driving me crazy. But if I gave God the same energy his love would transcend the love that I was searching for. If I look for him and search for him the way I did for my partner he would fill the void. It wasn't my partners love I was yearning for but for the love of my heavenly father. That day I surrendered my life to the Lord and gave him control because I was done trying to control and do everything on my own. God has really from one moment to the other done a 360 in my life and I'm forever grateful for his mercy and his grace.
This message really gives hope to me, so thank you! I am in a similar and yet different situation, as the person I have been obsessed with for too long is a distant friend in another country.

As I listened to this video I know I have been on both sides of this. I realized that after the abuse and neglect as a child then rejection by men I loved created this hole inside me. This obsession is a hole inside that was never filled by those who were supposed to fill it. It is driven by lust and then a longing so desperate it is never satisfied. No matter what the person says or does it is never enough. It is because only God can fill that void and satisfy that longing. No man can they will always fail us. Even if they try they will still fail because it is not them we need but God.
Thank you Pastor so many people don't know these principles and become involved with the wrong people.

A part of me feels these feelings towards a friend who lives in another country, and I really dont want to feel this way towards her. It is just like you said. I consider it demonic. Limerence is the psychological term for it, coined by Tennov in 1979. That she still wants to be my casual friend, and sees me as a great person, after all the times I have made her feel uncomfortable with my strong feelings for her.
I am a Christian, but I must admit that I have been weak in my faith lately. I have turned her into an Idol, instead of focusing on Christ. I just want this to end so I can see her as a good but casual friend in another country, focus on Jesus and my life here. Please pray for me and for her.

Initially when we start our relation, she was too obsessed and possessive, she wouldn't even want me to be with my relatives, friends and church members and this has been for almost 5years.

If only someone anyone would of educated me when i entered my first relationship with a man. I was 17 knew nothing about domestic violence i was gang raped and gang bashed at 14 so perhaps i was thinking i deserve it, or that it was normal 😢. I hid it like a dirty lil secret, i was a prisoner not allowed to have friends see family broke my phone, would rape and beat me then tell me jow much he loved me. I became a shell of a person i was numb and it caused many ptsd for a long time. Im so glad i was called by the living God by my name in 2019 he made it clear that he is coming back soon and to come back to him now before its too late. I think its important to teach women and yes even men about domestic violence and posseive love. 😢 through suffering the lord Jesus Christ has brought me out of the dark cavernous place, where my dreams were haunted, fear became my only friend
