    Whenever time travel and futuristic scifi/AI are mixed together, I just love it so much. This show kinda gives me Psycho Pass, Steins Gate, and Terminator vibes. I love it so much.

    There was a video game I played last year called Detroit: Become Human. Amazing game, and this anime reminds me of it. It’s interesting how we try to predict the future.

    You know an anime is great when nobody has a clear idea of its meaning so it touches on many aspects and leaves you thought provoking..This was animated well and i enjoyed the good story telling no gimmicks and fan service or dumb nudity and shouting from goofy characters.

    I really like Vivy, it's my favorite anime of 2021 so far. It is very philosophically and theologically engaging even though the worldbuilding/sci-fi concepts are imperfect (for real though, Project Singularity does not make that much sense. Matsumoto and the Doctor who's supposed to be the leading scientist in the world in 2156 don't even have back-up plans or real solutions for butterfly effects).
    What really shines in Vivy, in my opinion, is how it answers its core question/thesis in a hopeful and conversational way. It tries to answer the question of "What makes a human" not by stubbornly pointing to "love, emotion, will, heart" in a generic way. Instead, it is seeking a better way to answer this question. Think about what the moderate Toak members in the final episodes said, compare that with Vivy's final test and AI's reason for rising up.
    Another thing I appreciate about Vivy is how gentle and graceful it is in handling such a heavy subject. Lots of futuristic shows tried to imagine the most messed-up and malicious scenarios, where all act according to their most base instincts. Vivy is not like that, yet it's not naïve about human fallacy either.

  • @Yaboi27
    @Yaboi27 Před 3 lety +1

    Nice. Was looking for more Vivy stuff to bawl my eyes over on and I found this video and you channel. The content you make is great in my opinion. A little problem I have is that you didn't put a spoiler warning in this video, though.
    I believe that what makes us human is a sum of many things. Emotions, thoughts, memories, self awareness, mortality, etc. Combined, these things make us human. Remove a single one of these attributes from a human and you will see that they will become, from the perspective and opinions of others, less human. For example, say a man loses the ability to feel. He would no longer be able to experience happiness, anger, sadness, jealousy, etc. He would no longer have sympathy, he would not care for his own life or others. In a sense, he would he like a machine. Except, if he did not have his own meaning of life prior to this event, he would be a machine with no purpose apart from his base instincts, like an insect, maybe. This is not what we would describe as human.
    Funny how I can spend an hour on a university paper and only write a paragraph or so but I can do the same on a particularly thought intriguing video on something I am passionate about.

    • @TheMeaningOfNerd
      @TheMeaningOfNerd  Před 3 lety +2

      Hahahaha, I get that feeling😂
      Hey maybe one day you could be making thought provoking content yourself if that's what you'd like of course. And I agree with your way of thinking about it. Not just what makes us human but also how unique it is, since if you were to take away one of the many things that make us human, we would start losing our humanity with time.
      P. S. Yeah, I should've put a spoiler warning. Apologies. I'll add it to the description in retrospect and see that I find a way to implement it in future videos, thx for the critique 💪🏼

    I been thinking about your question since the video come out. I also watched it 2 times to process the information.
    "What exactly makes us Human?"
    If we see this through science, we are cells, organs, and flesh. We are multi cellular beings. If we try to add more meaning to it would be hard to do so without mentioning religion and belief (similarly to what you said). So let's not talk about that.
    I think if we are talking about AI the question should be something else. "What is consciousness?"
    At the end of the day, the goal is to make a machine think like us aka a consciousness. Well a conscious is being aware. Knowing your in body and in control of it. Knowing what's around you and making an opinion about it. Making choices knowing the outcome and the ethics attached to it.
    Now can we create a conscious? We know its possible because nature can do it. In a mother's womb the baby slowly get a conscious as its being created. So if we study this nature maybe we will learn how to build a conscious, and when we do maybe we can create an AI that truly thinks like a human.
    Now we can also create a conscious with coding, but would it truly ever have a mind of it's own? I dont think so because it would only be following instructions given to it. So trying to make a conscious naturally would be the best choice.
    At the end of the day, we shouldn't try to build an intelligent being. After all we still have alot of work to do for the better sake of other humans.
