  • Input / Output comparison of a completely disassembled and cleaned Eureka atom. The difference of the coffee weight stays in the grinder and gets stale coffee which will potentially change the taste of fresh ground coffee by mixing with it.

at home, if we store coffee beans in the hopper and plug the spout of the ground coffee outlet with something for the night... will we get a semblance of a sealed container?

It depends on the grinder and what is sealed for you. Some ginders are just sealed around the burrs using a piece of rubber to keep most grinds out. Some grinders are precision machined, but I think they are never air tight. Plugging the spout would probably help keeping the CO2 in and thus conserving the beans better/longer but I wouldn't worry too much about that. If you have freshly roasted beans from home or your local roster, they normally stay fresh for one to three weeks in the hopper and start degrading when the volume in the hopper goes down. I did single dosing with home roasted beans fresh, after a degassing period and also kept them in the hopper and in the end I could tell the difference when comparing A/B at most but not from a single cup. The beans do not taste that much different from storing them in the grinder than storing them elsewhere. Keep in mind that a box will also have the air sitting on the beans, especially at the end when the jar empties. Having a jar with a lid that pushes onto the coffee always airates the coffee when opening again, single dosing into small flasks has a higher air (between and over the beans) to overall beans/degas ratio, freezing I would not recommend. So my tip would be to just drink enough coffee to have always fresh beans and buy from a local roaster and maybe purch a few seconds in the morning to get the really old stuff from over night out of the grinder.

so, the atom is not suitable for single dosing :/ im deciding between the atom 65 and the specialita but i read on a youtube video that, specialita is way better fro single dose. I really wanted to see a video like this, to have an idea :D thank you for upload!!!

I would not recommend it, no. Most people seem to like the Niche Zero grinder for single dosing or a good quality hand grinder if you don't mind the "work". I can see if I can make a short video single dosing it in the next days tough :)

Here another retention test. This time the machine was not cleaned before:

@@nvprojects7601 to be honest i dont like the Niche (kill me) hahaha. Right now im considering purchase the specialita. If im gonna buy a better espresso grinder (currently im using the built in Breville grinder), I´d prefer flat burrs :D Thats why I want the Mignon Specialita :D

@@nvprojects7601 Thank you, that was a helpfull video. Now im awared that, despite the bueatiful eye looking of yhe ATOM, i wouldnt be very suitable for single dosing. If we talk about design, I LOVE the Atom more than the Specialita but I have to choose a grinder based on my needs :)

@@sebastiansaucedo9965 The Specialita is not a single dose grinder. I sold mine for the same reason as this video: very high retention.
