The Moment you realize WHY IT became quiet, when they started laughing, he sensed that Georgie's fear started to diminish, because Georgie started the get comfortable with all the laughing etc etc, so IT just became Dead silence and put Georgie in a confusing state, to bring that fear out again,

When Pennywise is laughing with Georgie and then just suddenly stops and stares straight at him it's the scariest thing I've seen in a long time
Indeed!
He didn't stare at him. He looked right through him. He saw all the tasteful parts of Georgie's body right before he bit his arm off.
@@montanamaxx3824 no becuz Georgie fear start to fate away and starts to feel comfortable with IT so thats why he stayed silence to bring the fear back i got this from one of the top comment

@@wongdc3993 I don’t know, perhaps it’s been confirmed that is what is going on here, but it feels different than that. It’s almost like he gets lost in some sort of blood lust for a moment, and then realizes he freaked the kid out too much and tries to reel him back in. But that actually works with your interpretation too. He was trying to get the fear back but almost scared his meal off completely. Either way, an impressive performance.
I think what makes Bill's performance so effective is that he's not portraying a clown, he's portraying something that's TRYING to be a clown. That's the clear difference between him and Tim Curry's version. Tim played a basic clown and it was really great, but Bill found a way to show the entity of IT from within the form of Pennywise and it's impressive that he was able to do that. Both versions of the character were well done. I sincerely hope we get to see more of Pennywise in the sequel.
fireyayo91 Aw man, Ivd been saying this to my friends trying to get them to see the movie when it was in theaters. So true, glad other people see that too! This guy is creepy

The section between 2:50 to 2:58 freaks me out to my bones; chills. The shift from giggles to a soulless, haunting look of almost nothingness but outright fear and menacing feel, in my opinion, one of the best parts of this scene. Just the stillness of Pennywise......and the music...... so so good.
94Lockdown20 Finally someone who actually noticed that. Very clever horror movie tactic. It creeped me out badly and still does.
I agree it was so well done one moment they laughing and right after that the creepy and eerie silence comes. You can clearly see the bloodlust in pennnywise's face when he stops. It's a very effective horror scene in so many levels.
And if you listen- you hear him growl too... Scary stuff...
Yes me too it still chills me to the bone, so scary. cant believe how scary this movie was, it still scares me. I couldnt sleep at all after watching it.
@Danny Smith exactly. That stare... I think this is the "narcissist's stare" people talk about. Scary.
Someone give Bill Skarsgard an Oscar

This scene is just so amazing, Bill Skarsgard was really the best person for this role. At first Pennywise seems genuinely friendly and goofy, in a creepy way, but its easy to see that Pennywise is just looking at Georgie with hunger.
When he goes blank faced is when everybody in the theatre felt unsafe lol
The performance here is INCREDIBLE. In fact this is one of the greatest horror movie moments of the 2010's. This will be a classic within the next 10 years and our kids will talk about it.
I barely hear anyone talk about it now.
My high school classmates are still talking about "it".
There are so many people that are still talking about it.
Not saying much, considering there hasn't been anything worth calling iconic/classic in the horror genre in 20 years. (Trick R Treat and It Follows are about as close as it gets).
I agree 100%. Underrated performance

That death stare he gave him and that creepy music was just on point. Give me chills.
Honestly this was scary...pennywise came off very affectionate sometimes, like someone you'd really like which is what i think is the main gold in the character because for him to be able to attract kids he has to be very charming and likeable plus it makes the character more menacing when he turns on his evil side again. They absolutely nailed it.
I agree, I don't get why people call Pennywise "obviously creepy" in this scene. He looks very adorable and innocent with those baby blue eyes and childlike, pleasant voice!
Paola Munoz That was the point though. He is a child-predator trying to entice the poor kid into falling in his trap.

2:40 and the most iconic laugh in horror history was made
The thing that makes this movie so good is that they didn't try too hard to make it scary. That is something i think most horror movies keep messing up with, they keep trying to focus on the scares and not build a story. That's what it did right, they built a story ( with help from the book) and the scares came naturally. Just my opinion of course
5 year old trying to make a scary movie: *blood everywhere, way too many predictable jumpscares, etc.*
To make a scary movie, you need some scenes to be quiet, not too much blood, only a few drops. And if you want jumpscares to be scary. You gotta put a jumpscare at the most unexpected place and time. Could help if the very very unexpected jumpscare was loud and moving fast too but only lasts for 2 seconds or 1.
The best part of Pennywise's lazy eye is that one of the two eyes is always focused on _us,_ the audience, which really adds subliminally to our discomfort of the character.
"It saw us! It saw us and it knows who we are!"
And the fact Bill Skarsgard did it to himself is awesome! Even the director joked that he safe a lot of money for CGI budget. Originally they wanted to CGI his eyes but they found out Bill can do it himself by relaxing his lazy eye's muscles.
I read in the (whole) trivia section on IMDB when the movie first came out that he never blinked to "adds subliminally to our discomfort of the character", and not this amblyopia. First time learning about it too! :))
When does it happen? Can’t find it
Talking about the eyes just before he tears of Georgies arm they turn from blue to murderous yellow
The shift at 2:50 tho! Skarsgard killed it
1:05 Actually, Bill really killed him.
☠️
Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise has to be one of the scariest villains in horror movie history.
I love how he stares at 2:52 and drools with his eyes going in different directions. The 2017 Pennywise is so off somehow. They included so many details that just make him seem otherworldly. I love Tim Curry´s performance but that´s why I prefer Bill´s Pennywise.
XcoldheavenX Amazing right? He did that because Georgie stopped fearing him as he laughed about the popcorn. He had to make him fear him again. Love it
Bill Skarsgard has an advantage because his eyes can naturally do that
Devin Dash I just love the look of utter confusion on his face. He's probably never had anyone laugh atchim before, so he doesn't really know what to do.
Something I just noticed that I kind of find a little bit disturbing: he has one eye on Georgie, the other eye looking directly into the camera.
He seems otherworldly because IT actually is otherworldly. His true form exists outside our universe and kinda looks like what the lights in the back of his throat look like.

Poor little Georgie was just trying to live a normal life and Pennywise just had to mess it up.
I like it when pennywise said "a Storm blew me away. Blew the whole circus away"
I love the subtle change of Pennywise's eyes from yellow to blue 1:18-1:19
That's a detail from the book :) When Georgie first sees the clown in the sewer, his eyes are yellow. But when they speak, he sees them blue, the same blue as his mother's and Billy's. IT is making himself look familiar and reassuring, slowly sneaking it's way into Georgie's mind to draw him closer before eating him.
That's pure evil at work, people :)
3:32 when his eyes change from blue to yellow when he’s ready to bite Georgie gave me such chills

I’m obsessed with the movie can’t wait for Halloween so we can see more IT stuff. The acting was spot on I love how they mixed humor, horror and trauma, it made for an amazing movie.
One thing I had noticed was at the 3:05 mark or so when Georgie says he should get going but then Pennywise stops him by asking “Without your boat?” and he follows that with “You don’t wanna lose it Georgie... Bills gonna kill you.” There was something about how the eerie music chimed in with the way Pennywise said it. It sounded like this convincing and persuasive tone that made it so compelling and frightening. The acting for that scene is just so incredible it’s really an impressive performance.

I recently watched this movie for the first time. I absolutely loved it. One of the best horror movies I’ve ever seen. Scary as hell but awesome. Losers Club are awesome characters and Pennywise is one hell of a cool character. Bill Skarsgard did an awesome job playing Pennywise. One of my favourite horror movies. I’m planning on watching chapter 2 this weekend. If you’re a horror movie fan, watch this. You won’t be disappointed.
that "IT!!...rated RRRRRRR" really got me loll ~~
First of all! Those who say the original is better when this exists is kidding themselves and blinded by nostalgia! Nothing more! This is so much more eerie and well made as opposed to the cheesy 90's version... I simply don't understand when people say the original is more creepy and well done.. The problem I see with this along with many other franchises out there is that no matter how many reboots get made they will never beat the original because it's simply just not the original.. 😑Just because something isn't the original doesn't mean it can't be topped! People seem to get this fascination in their head that nothing could possibly be better then something that's already been done. Even if that something wasn't that great to begin with lol... This really bugs me especially when something is clearly done justice but because it's not the original despite having a better score, more book accuracy, great acting, it just simply can't beat the ORIGINAL because it's not the ORIGINAL.. This is actually so stupid 👍🏻
Lukus Griffiths Were you embarrassed when you reread the comment you were responding to?
Lukus Griffiths wow, you are actually the definition of the word "stupid"...
I totally agree. I grew up with the original movie, but I liked this one a ton more. Even though I would have appreciated a more scary tone towards it. Scenes like the lake scene or all those jokes the kids threw around towards the movie kinda made me lose focus on the scary stuff going on. Don't get me wrong, I know that the friendship and relationship between the kids and their developement is key to find and stop IT, and those scenes left a smile on my face, and ocasionally had me laugh my head off. But I would have seen a smaller presenca of comedy more fitting to a horror movie.
Anyhow, I loved this remake, even more than the origial (as, as you said, it's closer to the book), and I can't wait to see the sequel!! :D
Kira TheWriter
Calm down. We KNOW the book is the original. We are talking about the MOVIES, and refer to the mini serie as "the original" to identify them better.
Hold your horses, both your intervention and your anger are completely unnecessary. And I also believe that reading and trying to understand what people are saying BEFORE firing off a heated reply is much more clever.
Make of that what you will.

With the help of his portrayal and loyalty to the the book's concept and hopes of seeing him back in the sequel, Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise is way more better and threatening than Tim Curry's Pennywise
Threatening yes, better? Don't think so. I think they just had different way of approaching. Both are good in their own way.
Tim Curry was a great performance, but yes, bookwise, Bill is better. In Tim's defence, he had a mediocre first movie and a terrible sequel to save XD
better? no, tim curry is a far superior actor that couldn't rely on CGI. but this version of pennywise sure is a lot scarier.
I wouldn't say Bill relied on CGI. The director wanted that added in, but I think Bill's general performance would have been better without it. It will look better as well now the sequel will have a decent budget to work on.
Tim is one of the most underrated actors to ever live, but regardless, as the character of It itself, Bill just had more accuracy.
Renato Costa Nope. While I'll admit he did do pretty good as Pennywise and this movie has cool moments, some of the CG took me out of it because it looked too cartoony.

After seeing the second one have formed an opinion and don't agree with some of the comments. I just think they got sidetracked watching the first one focusing too much on keeping a story line and not drifting. It would have been nice if they would have introduced something else from the past, new things that the viewer wasn't aware of. A good movie though but a sequel flip two headed coin it gets 3 kernels from this viewer.
