Dirty you are the only roller skate teacher I have seen that really focuses on the whole body. Most other tutorials show you how to skate with your feet only but you actually emphasize the importance from head to toe and I really appreciate that! I think I need to get protective gear for the beginning, so that I dare fall more. I am currently playing it too safe, aka preventing to fall above all else, and I think it stops me from progressing much.

the mechanics of this where you pump your leg a little to keep the turn going, reminds me a little of a fouetté in ballet, when the ballerina whips her leg to maintain momentum and encourage more turning.

Hey, this is great! Is the technique the same for outdoor skating?
I'm right handed and when I dance I naturally turn to the left, never paid attention to it before haha
I will be practicing with this lesson over and over. My heel naturally comes up when I spin and I panic and slam it down and stop myself (and it ain't pretty). I need to get comfortable with that feeling. Do you spot when you turn? I don't want to get dizzy.

All it takes is practice and you’ll be able to do it. Start with her fundamentals, get those down good. Practicing dance moves and spins after will not be so tough. Always listen to your favorite jams while practicing…that is the key.

Is there something I need to do to my skates before learning spins? Loosen the trucks? I can do forwards and backwards, but it feels tight to turn? Is that normal?

thank you for this tutorial! i’ve been practicing spinning nonstop & I can finally get two rotations without tipping over. i’m still confused about pumping & I was told to twist my hips while spinning to keep the rotation. is twisting your hips a great way to keep your leading leg pumping as well?
There is definitely a core twisting component to the spin. Focus on the part of the video where I talk about that.

You can. You just need to position your body more over the ball of your foot.
i just learned to spin and cross over thanks to you!!💕 speaking of crossing over, any tips on how i can keep crossing over in a row? i can only do it twice before i lose all balance!! 😹
