  • On October 12, 2023, OT-1 ran a loaded Herzog ballast train eastbound out of Northern Maine Junction, bound for a drop on the Mattawamkeag line rehab project east of Old Town. I was able to grab a quick shot of them as they trundled along the Bangor waterfront, having lucked out with a perfectly timed lunchbreak. In recent months, the ballast supply for the area has been sourced from a local provider in outer Bangor, switched by OT-1 just outside of Northern Maine Junction, with these Herzog cars operating in closed loops between the drop and the reload. I hope you enjoy this quick clip of a heavily loaded ballast train at Bangor!

Nice that the ballast is coming locally.

Nice catch! The perfectly planned lunchbreak has possibly trumped the class 1's psr by providing immediate results! 😂 👍

Typically it is two per day, one in the mid-afternoon hours and one one during the night.
