    Just diagnosed. It's been fun but thank God for Doctors. I've had allergies my entire life so this is no surprise. I had a dilation done during my endoscopy and I'm enjoying every day that it lasts because I know its only temporary. I'm grateful I dont have something worse but not being able to enjoy food like everyone else is horrible and unless you've had the experience of food constantly getting stuck you have no idea how bad it is.

      its only temporary if you dont find the triggers. if you can figure out the trigger like a certain food you can avoid having the esophagus closing again

    Great video that sums it all up. I got my diagnose 13 years ago and did not treat it any way. It has gotten progressively worse and I recently ended up at the ER with food impaction. Now on PPIs since two weeks and symptoms have almost disappeared. Endoscopy in a few weeks to check eosonophil levels. One thing I have noticed is that if my asthma flares up due to pollen or animals my eoe also gets worse. So clearly it's not just food. Anyway don't get used to living with eoe, get treatment soon since this is in most cases a progressive disease (was not pointed out by doctors back in 2008)

      We have similiar experiences. I read a few years ago about a case where an allergy doctor put a patient on Humira and it cleared up the dysphagia. I just had my endoscopy and diagnosed and I'm curious what solutions will be offered next.

      @@user-im6fy4qp6m I am not on regular asthma medication, only salbutamol in rare cases such as when I have been exposed to dogs or other allergens. Therefore my answer is no. Pantopratzol 20 mg taken daily and that has kept the dysphagia at bay. As I said before I notice variation in symptoms from none to slight difficulty swallowing but food does not get stuck the same way as before medication.

    I have had EoE for a year and a half. I have had the orodispersible steroid tablets for 8 weeks, and achieved remission. However while this gets rid of the inflammation, if you keep eating the triggered foods it keeps coming back. I avoid cow's milk and all dairy related food. I try to eat slower as well but generally i get a burning in my throat and its uncomfortable. However I am able to swallow tablets, food and water with no issues whatsoever. I would love to try the elimination diet for real, rather than guess the foods that cause an issue. Even things like tomato soup have milk in them and trigger a flare up. Not easy, but be prepared to eat a lot more healthier!

      Any type of foods can cause problems. Even honey and other bee products in my case. Anything that touched fish so even kelp noodles cause me problems since it seems there is no way for kelp to be absolutely fish free. So seafood and bee products are my biggest culprits. And coconut sugar I never could understand why it would be always so brutal on me until I saw on CZcams how bees fly into the coconut flower sap while it's boiled down in kettles ...

    This was good info and presented very clearly.
    I am a 44 year old who is 5 weeks into the elemental diet. I agree that it's awful, mostly for quality of life, but I'll continue it for the last 16 days. I know you mentioned there is no "best approach" for a reintroduction phase, but wondered what standard practice is? Do you need 6 weeks of SFED afterwards? Also, where does alcohol fit in - wine specifically?

      @Luiz Felipe Fernandes Stipp Is there any studies or tests being created for the mucosa responding to the proteins? I've suffered since childhood by regularly getting foods caught in my throat; I had my first dilation at 18 and have had more than 1/2 a dozen since; and my eosinophil count has never been lower than 50. Even after a 6 week elimination diet, my eosinophils were still high. But, after the elemental diet, my eosinophils went to 0 - I was shocked, amazed and very happy. It means it's 100% food related, and my refusal for medicine is warranted since, in theory, I can just eliminate the problematic foods. I didn't think anything would work, but the elemental diet worked wonderfully. There just isn't an easy way for re-introduction and figuring out the triggers yet.

      @mattstucky5837 Před 3 lety +3

      Progressive means it does more damage the longer it goes untreated. For example, one might start with a few hiccups after a meal and occasionally struggle to swallow food. Then a week/month/year/decade later it has gotten so bad that food gets impacted daily at mealtime. Over time, the initial swelling of the throat leads to worse and worse damage to the esophagus (progressive) and may even begin to cause scarring from either the food or now stomach acid, as it has popped up more and more over time to get to the food that is stuck. Eventually, without a fix, the sphincter erodes from all the acid or you start to get stomach ulcers or acid pain in the stomach itself. Would you die from it, probably not, but you may have to have your esophagus worked on, which is WAY worse in my opinion then just altering what you eat.

    • @GregorsOutdoors
      @GregorsOutdoors Před 2 lety +6

      No, it is not! But you hold the golden key. Your choices will dictate your destination with this chronic condition. I should know after over a decade of embarrassing dysphagia episodes and nearly a dozen dilations and counting. You'll eventually be tested and given a list of bad actors- the foods to avoid altogether to eliminate the inflammation. Your fork, knife, spoon, and straw will be your guide. If you cough after eating something- avoid it. I'm allergic to nearly everything- wheat, dairy, soy, tree nuts (bye-bye peanut butter), shellfish, pork, red meat, and alcohol. Yeast is one of the worst actors for inflammation. It can and will limit your social activities. I became a hermit of sorts for a long stint because of my lack of self-discipline and poor willpower. The anxiety or fear of choking in front of others is one of my biggest things. You have a chance of beating this with the early detection assuming you haven't been dealing with it for years? I wish you the best. Your attitude (either or negative or positive) will greatly affect the results of your journey. I have had a poor, poor, pitiful me approach for many years and I can tell you that is useless and has no benefits. Take action and be in charge of your life right now. Ask for tests and be re-tested again. Make your list of bad food groups and stay the heck away from them at all costs! I wish you well!
