    This is great information.
There's a world of difference between what a gastroenterologist knows vs what a GP knows. I was told by two GPs that food can't get stuck in your throat and "it's all in your head". It took me over a year and multiple food impactions before I eventually had a specialist put an endoscope down my throat to reveal that I indeed had EOE, which was something I had never heard of. It is however something that all GPs need to know about. Being gaslit is not fun.

The doctor said he couldn't see any inflammation. He only said she has IBS. She is down to eating only really 1 meal a day now at noon. Her variety of food has expanded but she still finds many things hard to digest and flare her symptoms so has to be becareful. Strangely it is lots of types of vegatables that cause the worst symptoms . Then a glass of milk around 5 and that's it. Anything more and she gets heartburn or indigestion. Every meal she takes digestive enzymes which helps. She also takes calcium alpha ketogluturate at the moment and I think this has helped too as now is the 2nd time she has taken it and I see an improvement right away. Also magnesium before bed. She took kudzu for a while before meals and this helped her stomach heal too I believe. She doesn't take any medication now. She still has aches and pains all over though but it varies.

I have recently been diagnosed with EOE. it used to be so scary, as my parents never knew how to help me. some times it would be severe, causing me to throw up several times, some times more minor. either way,, it would often end in tears as I was pretty young, and I would almost always loose my appetite in frustration. this had gone on for several years and I had excused it as me being such a fast eater, but it quickly became clear that it was more than that, since intrestingly enough, my father -a white man, being the group of people that EOE is most commonly associated with-had suffered with the same thing for most of his adult life. it was no secret to the family, and my father would often faint, causing seizures and other scary experiences, but had never been diagnosed because he claimed doctors couldn't quite put their finger on what he was describing. (I suspect it was the WAY he was describing it, and he perhaps was focusing way too much on the fainting, which then resulted in him being told to eat slower.) it seems from my google searches that EOE can be genetic. anyways, the whole situation was very hard for me, and it was also quite difficult to get in with a doctor, let alone all of the tests that followed. luckliy I got in, and was diagnosed. I'm on the patht to figuring out how to deal with it, and I'm glad this video is helping people to become more aware of this condition, as it extremely hard for the people experiencing it.

I was diagnosed with EOE 2019 after many years of almost choking on food. From 2020 to 2023 I've had 12 dilation performed. After having a dilation, first two months were okay. Then very quickly my esophagus would begin to narrow in certain parts, causing major problems eating. Usually by the third month I was on a soup diet only. However, after taking Steroids and PPI,s for the last three years, it seems to have finally worked for me. It's now been just on a year I haven't been back to hospital. Eating most foods, however still being careful when eating. I still do have issues, it's not perfect. But a massive improvement. My esophagus has been dilated to 18mm diameter. They say any more would be risky, due to the damage done prior to diagnosis. At 18mm diameter it's not great but it works for me. Now in 2024, I am beginning to have some issues again but not enough yet to warrant another dilation.

Hi, I'm looking for an opinion from you. A year ago I was diagnosed with EOE, with 25 eosinophils. After steroid therapy I had a complete remission, but given the complications of candidiasis that it caused me, I interrupted the treatment and tried therapy with proton pump inhibitors, but my Eosinophils at the end of the therapy were 30. I have always been left between 20 and 30. I decided to do the 6 food elimination diet, but after 8 weeks my eosinophils became 100, and 50 also in another part of my esophagus. Could anyone give me their opinion on how this was possible. The only explanation I can give myself is that during the diet I was eating too much of a food to which I am allergic. I await your opinion too.

Once you reintroduce food and particular the big ones dairy wheat soy etc.. You will likely find your triggers. Mine are dairy and to lesser extent wheat and soy, and definitely smoke. Thank you for your comment. Sounds like you are on the right path for an accurate diagnosis. Yes the upper endoscopy will be able to help the doctor determine what is going on with the esophagus. During the endoscopy, your doctor likely took small tissue samples (biopsy) from your esophagus. The samples will be checked for a high number of eosinophils in order to confirm the EoE diagnosis.

      @GastroGirl  Před 11 měsíci +2

Most likely because the overview provided in this episode is more general since research shows a strong link between food allergies and eosinophilic esophagitis (EOE). And the six foods that are most commonly associated with this allergic response are dairy, wheat, soy, eggs, nuts, and seafood/shellfish. Hence why citrus not mentioned in this context. That's why it's important to work with an dietitian who can best help you identify the foods that may trigger your symptoms.

Thank you very much for this video and all the information.
I am currently living in Bolivia (moved from Austria 8 years ago) and was diagnosed with EoE just 2 weeks ago.
I have had 4 endoscopies in the last 7 years. The results where following:
    1- Reflux - 2017
    2- Reflux - 2020
3- Esophageal candidiasis - had two weeks before recovering from Dengue fever -2023
4- EoE - first time they took biopsies. - 2023
I don't blame any doctor tbh, because the second time was during covid and with Omeprazole it got better.
Then after Dengue it looked like fungus and weak immune system could lead to this.
But the last one the biopsy as the endoscopy both seem like it is EoE.
Now my question would be, does Esophageal candidiasis look like EoE?
I am currently getting Omeprazol and also Nistatina against the candidiasis, but they are not sure if I got that.
One thing I do think would be good to add maybe, is the stress factor. I had the most issues during covid (pregnant wife in Bolivia
and me preparing to get the child at home if needed) and now again due to overload on work and wife again pregnant.
So I think stress has a huge factor as well. I am taking the medication mentioned above, taking things easier, yoga etc. and testing what food does not work for me (in 1 week I know that nuts and hard cheese are not good for me).
Thank you so much again and if you could give me your views on EoE vs. candidiasis look a like or maybe mistake from doc?

Hi thank you for your feedback and sharing your story. This is an interesting question on EoE vs candidiasis. The best way we can help shed some light, is following up with an episode that explores this topic with a leading GI expert. A quick Google search found several scientific articles on the topic, but I would like to explore this question with with an leading GI expert who can help us understand the links, if any, and the differences. www.google.com/search?q=EoE+vs+candidiasis.&oq=EoE+vs+candidiasis.&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIICAEQABgWGB4yCggCEAAYhgMYigUyCggDEAAYhgMYigUyCggEEAAYhgMYigUyCggFEAAYhgMYigXSAQc2MDBqMGo0qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8Please stay tuned.

Idk if it's true but dr stephen cabral said EOE is either from enviro/food allergies, certain cancers or parasites.
Chatgbt told my husband it can come from candida. Its difficult when you have to dig for yourself when Dr's say "we don't know what causes this" everything has a reason.

Try an elimination diet. Everyones root cause is different. My big ones are dairy, and smoke. Theres likely others. Look into an auto immune protocol diet and get your body reset

It’s best to talk with a doctor about your specific food allergies and whether they are related to EoE. EoE is a chronic immune system condition and can be triggered by food allergies. A person can have food allergies and not have EoE, but only a doctor can determine the right diagnosis. EoE is a progressive disease.

my 15-year-old daughter has eoe, the biopsy showed that she also has reflux, she has been on oneprazole medications for 2 years, the medications are working, the inflamation has decreased, but too many side effects have occurred and unfortunately the reflux is worse. How should she be treated now? I supplement my daughter with iron, vitamin B complex, vitamin D, magnesium. If it weren't for my awareness and deepening knowledge, my daughter would feel worse Why doesn't the doctor talk about side effects, I'm looking for another herbal method, I don't see how my daughter would be on ppi for the rest of her life, it causes deficiencies The stomach must have acid then all the vitamins are absorbed Maybe someone here, you use different methods and could share
