My favorite feature is when the arrow points exactly at the opposite direction of where I'm supposed to go. Very helpful.
Actually, a warning regarding point #1: Don't save your exact home or work address on your phone. If someone happens to run off with your keys and phone (probably what happens a lot on beaches) the thief not only has your phone, but also knows where the house (or the business) for the keys he has just stolen as well. I use an address near to where I work and live, but not the exact address.
The caveat to this is that the thief probably has your wallet too, which has your address on it. But I agree with you.
Nonsense. Firstly it's a very slim chance a theif is intelligent enough to break into a device that has a fingerprint, pattern or code lock. Second, if he does there are MANY different ways he could easily get your address in your phone. Your home location in Gmap is least of your problems.
What's the point in being so paranoid when the chances of the events that you describe or so remote it's not worth worrying about. It's more logical to simply make sure you secure your device and also you don't lose it in first place.
I use google maps a lot for work, but I will love if google add maps for trucking routs with restrictions. From a truck driver

google maps need to add Scooter routes(45 KM/U, 25 Mile) and Motorcycle routes.
Never put your home address in my places when using google maps. Instead pick a place near your home like the local pub or shop. If a thief were to steel your phone he could use you phone to navigate straight to your house. He already knows that you are out.

Trust me, fingerprint scanners are not as secure as many people think. I lost a bet to a friend in the pub some time ago when he showed me how easy it actually is to open the phone that is supposedly secure.

You can add a fair amount of pit stops or places you want to vist in the desktop website version for google maps. You can then send this map to your phone and pow, you have 10 pit stops because you chose to have 10 pit stops.

I drive a truck for a living and I have millions of saved places around the United States. I wish I could search my saved places. Because I have so many of them I have to keep scrolling until I finally find it. It would be easier if I could simply search my saved places.

I disagree strongly with your first tip. I would never put my home address in my contacts or provide it to Google maps. If your phone is stolen, it gives thieves a direct path to your home. Think about it. Someone might note your Rolex watch or your high end Lamborghini then steal your iPhone to learn where to come get them.
Instead, put a nearby public location, such as a store, restaurant, shopping center, etc. You will always be able to get home from that location and you will not give away information that should be protected.
Lock your phone.
What if they want to return your phone? They could find your address to return it, but good point.
@@vivienneh5693 I've found several unlocked phones. Just called the last one that the owner called and told them I found someone's phone or call the last number that called this phone and tell them.

Can you please show me how to increase the fonts size in the google map directions? While I am a Uber & Lyft Driver, I depend alot on google map directions. These fonts are really small especially trying to read the international highways and the Exist numbers going off to a ramp are harder to read.

Hello can anyone help???? Why google doesn't make this easy with a tab saying keep maps on when taking call is beyond me. So i was with a friend today and when a call came in he had a little notification at the top of the screen when answered the maps stayed on. With me as soon as i answer call maps goes and a get little boxes pop up. All I need to know is how to keep maps on screen when phone is answered??? PS if google brought out a sat nav I would buy it. GPS if you are in the States. Please help many times messing about with phone when should be concentrating on road..
After 10 years of screwing around with Google maps, still haven't figured out how to DELETE those circles of roads it creates while I'm trying to "show it" that I DON'T want to take the road it suggests. (Pieces of the route I'm working on now are even WORSE, in that they have become "handles" that move the entire page when I try to drag them over to my intended road.) HELLLLLLLLLLLLPPP!!

I want GPS coordinates, as a destination option (click the pin on the destination and allow you to save the GPS coordinates). In Rural areas, google maps does not always have the best routes, but a general set of coordinates is sufficient with local knowledge

Thank you for your useful video tutorials. I am a volunteer for "Find-A-Grave" and photograph headstones upon request in my area. Often I am given the Latitude and Longitude of the exact grave site. Unfortunately, I don't know how to use this information with Google Maps. In a large cemetery, there are hundreds and sometimes over a thousand headstone, and I have to walk several miles before locating the desired headstone. How would I use the Latitude and Longitude numbers to pinpoint the exact spot of a tombstone? There may be others with similar needs too.

I think you would use the Google Earth app for that, plug in longitude and latitude and it will show you where. Maybe?

Is it possible to navigate to people on your favorites list or in your contacts just using their name instead of saying the address? Example is "Navigate to moms" or "Go to David Smiths"

I like to use Offline Maps, but sometimes it doesnt work well.. like when I'm offline and look at an area I downloaded and zoom it, it gets fuzzy and doesnt show the street/road names, just roughly road/street outlines..
Optional landscape aspect ratio. Or at least I would if it was possible.

Hello,is there any way to use only highways while traveling long distance ,as many time google map took me through very narrow route which many time become very irritating,time and fuel consuming .
can google map use on off screen ,because waze can not use off screen -when traffic jam for 5 min,waze will shut down it self, does google map the same when use on off screen?

Needs a pause button. I don't want to add in a pit stop while driving for gas if I'm going to pull off. That way I can pull off.... pause it at the gas station and my phone does not bark directions when I walking around a convenient store.

My favorite feature? The ability to uninstall it. The accuracy is terrible. I have the updated version and today it sent me in a ten mile highway loop that had me pass close to my starting point and told me to take a northbound ramp when I needed to go south. The cutesy options might be fun for someone, but I need to get where I'm going.

I must add that there were no road construction or traffic issues, in case you think it was rerouting me for efficiency.
I have noticed this also has a lot to do with the GPS chipset that you have in your phone and whether or not you are in a country which Google fully supports. For example, I live in South Africa. Google Maps works very well here and we have Street View and most of the features offered. However, a large majority of Africa does not have full Maps support and therefore a lot of their data and navigation information is based on satellite imagery. This makes Google Maps somewhat unreliable in many central and Northern African countries. Also, dependent on the chipset of your phone, you will get a different GPS chip. On budget and midrange devices they tend to be a little more unreliable than on high-end devices. I work for a company that sends hundreds of smartphones out for data capture. They are budget devices and their GPS chipset can be off by several meters (sometimes even several hundred meters). For this reason, we often have to send expensive tracking units with the teams as well.
More technically speaking, the GPS chip in your phone determines your location by mapping your location relative to a number of Global Positioning Satellites. Cheaper chipsets can only use 4 or 5 satellites at a time to get a GPS location. The accuracy of your GPS reporting depends on how many satellites your phone is connected to at any given point. More expensive chipsets can connect to more satellites at a time, and can sometimes use other satellites to gather far more accurate positioning data. For example, the Samsung Galaxy Fame devices that we send into the field are often off by between 40-200 meters at times. The Galaxy S7 that we send with field managers are most often accurate within 5-8 meters.
I am not saying this is the case, however, it is a possibility.

If google map app sets a alarm option in it so that it is useful for everyone who where using this app because most of the people were travelling from one place to another by bus or train in sleepy mood so that they will miss they destination by sleeping in vechile and were landing in another places so if google map app sets a alarm it is useful for everyone to reach their loction in correct time
The best feature Ive been using so far is the TRAFFIC feature. Its much better and MORE ACCURATE than WAZE.

FRUSTRATED with Google's Map!
Let's say I'm going from point A. to point B,, ANY 2 locations; I try to type in the place I want to start FROM (i.e. - not where I am presently) & where I want to go TO. Why does Google Maps put my starting point in POSITION 2, as if it's assuming I want to start at the point I'm presently located? To make matters worse, it won't let me put anything in position 1? (And it does it every f'n time!)
What am I doing wrong?

Very nice. However, if you want a real challenge, tell us how to activate the compass in Maps on a Macbook, not just an Android. And BTW, nowhere on my Maps is a "location button at the lower left" or any other place for that matter.

Is there some strong evidence to suggest that Google apps on iOS is better than that of Android? My main topic of concern are the usual culprits such as Gmail, GMaps, Google+, CZcams, etc.
Compass mode is not getting activated, I tried tilting my Samsung mobile many times in 8 format, but still compass mode is not getting activated.

I would like to have Google Maps route a shopping trip for me. First I saved all of the places I want to shop for the day in "Places I want to Go". It would be nice if Google could combine the store hours with the traffic and determine where I should go first and then when I hop in the car for the next store, Google would provide directions to the next store to make most efficient use of my time.
