- Here's a demo what happens in GPS Rescue mode. There are 3 scenarios:
0:00 - Activate Rescue Mode using a switch
1:46 - Activate Rescue Mode by Failsafe (using a switch)
4:22 - Turn off radio
The first two are how I normally test Rescue mode. The 3rd one is real life failsafe event.
To get auto landing in Rescue mode, you need to install Betaflight 4.4, here's how: oscarliang.com/betaflight-4-4/
How to Setup Rescue Mode: oscarliang.com/setup-gps-resc...
The more satellite locks the more accurate Rescue mode would be, here's how to boost your GPS performance: oscarliang.com/gps-settings-u...

Disclaimer: Do not turning off your radio while flying, I did it for educational purposes and I made sure there was little battery left so it wouldn't travel far even if things go wrong.

Thnx for all the help you hand out. I did try this today only to smash my airunits cam. I did do the settings like your webpage says. (just not the hold set throttle and yaw pitch roll)
So what happend was from 1,5 to 2M of altitude and a fix of 9 to 10 sats It dropped on the gras for a second. then went up in the air and came back home. I tested mine with the radio turned off. I turned my radio back on and my crossfire went to 2:100 so a perfect connection. I then deflicted the sticks.... but nothing happend... tried again... ( I knew about the 30%)
So then it just flew home I tried a quick disarm and arm.. but still just fly back home into RX lost... and right before it was home it just failsaved and crashed in the pavement smashing the cam. :(
but My head can't get around why it would not regain controll.. Eventough the connection was mint.
any toughts ? no blackbox files unfortunatly.
Your website is by far the best resource for all sorts of stuff when getting into fpv as a newb.
I’ve had more progress with some things on your website than I have with proper course made by well known fpv guys that I payed a lot of money for.
Honestly so sick man. You should put some content together in order talking through the unboxing of a BNF, through to setting up in Betaflight (including GPS) and through to getting in the air for the first few flights.
If you put that all together into a bit of a course I guarantee that many people will buy it.
I bought a BnF for my first non Dji quad and there’s basically no help from the massive fpv brands once you’ve purchased it.
Thank you Oscar!
Thank you Betaflight Devs!
How far we’ve come from base/clean flight days.
Greetings from the coast of SoCal 😎
Thanks. Best demo ever of all 3 ways to activate GPS rescue. Good job Mr. Liang. Well done.
wow I accidently came across this - I shoulda searched for your channel a long time ago. I've b
een reading your web published stuff for almost 2 years now. Thanks for all you do for the hobby!
Fantastic demo, Oscar! Thanks a bunch! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
This is amazing! Thanks for all you do Oscar! Cheers!
thanks for this video showing what will happen in a real life scenario, and thank you for your informative website which helped me get into the hobby
Awesome explanation and demonstration of this amazing feature 🤟🏻
great demonstration
This is an amazing improvement! Great vid!
that's cool!! can't wait to get my quad setup!
Your website has helped me so much. Thank you.
Super nice Oscar
Nice I like how the Dev. Implement the auto landing on v4.4.0 by pulsating and decreasing throtle until it safe to "Drop" landing.
The motors/props sound make people aware there is flying object near them.
Great test bro.
Dam….nicely done!!! Thanks!
Nice to see you still fly a S800 wing! Me too! Love that thing!
Yup, just practicing my wing skills again after about 2 years :D
@@OscarLiang1 Nice! Keep it up!
great stuff. helped me a lot
so cool look how far we have come!
we are getting closer to owning a DJI drone day by day LOL
Nice work I'll be visiting your website to see who it works.
Hello. Great video Oscar. I was also testing RTH function today and all was working great. Did 5 consecutive landings. On that last one it stopped like 20m above the landing spot and just disarmed and fell down like a brick. I guess there was a sanity check problem but I can’t figure out what went wrong. Just before it disarmed I saw some strange behavior in my OSD but everything happened so fast. Keep up with the good work!
Maybe not enough sats on your way home?
Nice.. well done. 👍
Thank you!
Awesome
Great!
you need to lower Altitude PIDs (GPS_RESCUE_THROTTLE_P, GPS_RESCUE_THROTTLE_I, and GPS_RESCUE_THROTTLE_D) a bit. Then it will not throttle-pump like your quad is doing while descending.
Excellent ! With my C7's the props inertia, the RTM event , the turn back 180 is so violent it more often then none will unscrew a CCR prop 🤕. I have DVR showing it's like in micro seconds .Be nice to some how calm that down . I think people will abuse the auto land when its real intension was a last ditch countermeasure to return your investment back if your transmitter fails . Past summer my back door opened , and batt fell out on ground . Never had auto land but my heart beat doubled lol
i can see so many people are gonna abuse rescue mode just because they are feeling lazy to fly the quad home XD
@@OscarLiang1 lol and ...oh look hunny watch this ,this is sooooo freakkkkking cool ! ........smash 🤕
Thanks for this awesome demonstration! Btw, the numerical no. 9 besides the satelite icon, what does it denotes to? Thanks
+1 anzi +3 eccezzionale !
Awesome demo of the gps capabilities! I would like to see how it would react diving a building or simulate diving a building and see if it would be able to recover from a failsafe close to the ground?
👍👍
Can it come home if something is between the drone and the "home"?
Thanks for the video! Can you let me know if pulling off the same thing is doable with Chimera7? If it is, that would be a game-changer for me. I'm pretty good at flying, but when it comes to landing, it's a whole different story. Right now, I can't test it out because my drone is in the shop. I messed up the flight controller when it took a nosedive during a landing... :(
So setting up failsafe in modes on a switch just tests what will happen incase a real failsafe happens? Could you put failsafe and gps rescue on the same switch but at different values
I want to ask why the RTH on a 7-inch quad has such a problem that it won't be as good as on a 5-inch quad?
what are the video systems you are using in this video? and OSD file if you can share it please if you are using walksnail
Does failsafe Only works in stability mode
Why does the drone sound pulsating when it gets close?
What is your suggestion for a Long Range VTX antenna? The VTX I'm using is the Rush Tank Solo 2.5w VTX.
Just use a good omni directional antenna from a reputable brand, here are my recommendations: oscarliang.com/best-fpv-antenna/#Omni-Antennas-Best-Value
3:11 when I disable the failsafe switch, my quad still can't control,
controller is arming and throttle at 0%, what problem is it
why do you turn off barometer?
What happens if you do a lot of freestyle? Do you lose Sat Lock quickly? Do you lose the ability to RTH even after Sat Lock comes back? Thanks.
Nah, freestyle shouldn't be an issue for sats. as long as you mostly fly under open sky and not inside a building
Biggest question is what does it do if you enable it accidentally close to home?
I assume they still have the improved handling with an intermittent radio signal as it used to go in and out of rescue mode and cause a crash before.
The truth of the matter is can it land with sanity checks turned off?
Sanity checks on gps rescue make it unreliable and i would never trade reliable return for somewhat crap landing.
The wiki explains how the new sanity check works: github.com/betaflight/betaflight/pull/11579
Do you need to have a gps module on the drone or can any drone do this? Still fairly new to fpv
yes, you need a gps on the drone. i have a beginners guide here if you are totally new to FPV drones: oscarliang.com/fpv-drone-guide/
what would happen if you failsafe (for real, like if you flew out of the range of your radio) but then while flying back in rescue mode the quad would get back in range. Would it just stop rescue without warning or allow you to get ready to take back control? Just curious - one could imagine a case where you lose control and video link at the same time (like flying long range and getting behind a hill or building) and it would get back the control link while gaining altitude but video would still not be there.
It keeps coming toward you when set up right. After you lose both connections, just sit down and be patient and keep looking up. It will land close enough to you.
Rescue mode should still be on until you manually terminate it. Quoting wiki: the pilot must move the sticks more than 30% to regain control after the radio link comes back after a real failsafe
Do you have to enable or disable the switch "GPS_RESCUE_ALLOW_ARMING_WITHOUT_FIX"to run the tests per switch?
you can do either. but you must take off after you have a solid satellite fix if you want to test it.
I still dont have a gps on mine. How do you recommend to setup my failsafe? I dont feel secure for the stock drop option. Shouldnt be safer to select land, or even throttle up so i could regain signal? Thank you.
please check the link in video description where i explain each settings.
Can you please post your? There are some that have issues with it throttling up as it moves towards home.
gps_rescue_throttle_p
gps_rescue_throttle_i
gps_rescue_throttle_d
gps_rescue_velocity_p
gps_rescue_velocity_i
gps_rescue_velocity_d

in nano rx tbs setting failsafe choice is cut or pro safe?
set it to cut, and let Betaflight handle failsafe
@@OscarLiang1 thank you for the fast answer you are doing great work
Hi Oscar,
My home direction is pointing reversed.
(Pointing forward when I'm behind my quad and left when it's on my left side)
I have installed wtfos and hd fonts in it. But the dji custom osd is pointing correctly. How do I fix it? Thanks in advance..
Sometimes, if you take off and spin around during arming or immediately on takeoff, the quad’s attitude information can become corrupted, and the Home Arrow can point the wrong way. It’s best to arm cleanly and fly away from Home in a straight line at a reasonable speed immediately after takeoff. Watch the Home Arrow carefully to ensure it quickly points back to Home. If the Home Arrow points the wrong way when a failsafe occurs, the GPS Rescue will initially fly off in the wrong direction, and in some cases, you may lose the quad.
@@OscarLiang1 I see. But in my case, the wtof osd arrow is pointing reversed while the dji osd is correct. I put them on at the same time, I see them both on my goggles
Hard landing, if Inav 2019 slow landing and perfect with SDA - SCL included magnetometer FC.
Where can I download a colored font?
sites.google.com/view/sneaky-fpv/home
Why is the quad pulsating when auto landing?
probably the flight controller trying to adjust attitube while landing.
@@kithng yeah I get that. But it doesn't seem normal 🤣
just my theory - it's a form of warning if there are people below the quad. also i think altitude isn't updating fast enough so it's descending little by little
@@OscarLiang1 that is a nice interpretation for that " FeAtuRe" :D
Your font looks like SNEAKY_FPV but shows "km/h" (more SI correct) instead of "kph". How you did that? :)
just download it from github and put them in the goggles :) i show how to do here: oscarliang.com/fpv-wtf-dji-goggles-osd/#Custom-Font
@@OscarLiang1 Hmmm, "Nov 2022 - added instructions on how to change font". Looks like in older versions of the fonts it was "km/h" but was changed to "kph" later. I need to check that as "kph" kills my eyes :P Thanks!
@@rfly-fpv oh, that's the last update you see? I updated the guide last night with links to those color fonts, maybe you need to clear the browser cache (press CTRL + F5). Anyway I downloaded those font here: sites.google.com/view/sneaky-fpv/home
@@OscarLiang1 No no, I just posted the date when you started playing with fonts and thought that you see "km/h" only because back then (in Nov 2022) it was like that in the older version of the SneakyFPV fonts ;) I see the most recent article without clearing the cache - all is fine :)
@@rfly-fpv ah i see, I am using the latest Sneaky Conthrax font if that helps :) i am gonna make like a screenshot comparison of all the color fonts this afternoon
Hi, what is "FONT" you used in writing?
What do you mean?
@@OscarLiang1 where does the writing in your OSD come from?
Draw a little more Amp when it try to landing,
How do you install those fonts?
See last link in video description :)
@@OscarLiang1
Saw it after typing. 😂 Copied the fonts in the SD card root, still they don’t show up. Also if I don’t boot the goggles first, the OSD is not HD and all off center.
Awesome but if a rough landing though 😓
Good would be if it would show in OSD that RTH/Failsafe is triggered
when failsafe is triggered you will see RXLOSS on screen. also you see RESC in OSD when it's flying home.
@@OscarLiang1 did you use the BF standard "RTH" settings?
@@1stslave143 I am not sure what you mean by RTH, it's just Rescue mode in Betaflight.
