    Fun fact, all of P1 is written by misha, and the vocal parts by spencer. Misha even wrote the drums and programmed them. P1 is basically the misha mansoor show

    5:23 "I can hear your voice at night (Your light lost in a waking dream within)" - Elliot Coleman from Good Tiger sings that part, and that wild high part.
    So you're right on, @Alekoshred, it doesn't sound like Spencer lol

    What is really fun about Periphery is that it connects deeply by the melodics, while at the same time hits you hard like a truck with those heavy riffs. It's not easy to explain, different, catching.

    To me this is my favorite periphery song of all time, and unless something is released otherwise, nothing will top it. I say this because I believe this song encompasses everything that periphery can do as a band and well, amazing vocal lines and melodies, crushing riffs, beautiful ambience, clean sections, mesmerizing solos, amazing drumming, etc. if I had to suggest another periphery song definitely Ragnarok or Masamune! Also I love the reactions and vids! Keep it up man, they’re entertaining as hell!

    The big problem for Spencer was that the entire album was written with a different vocalist in mind, that vocalist ended up leaving or getting kicked out of the band and Spencer came in to perform vocal lines and melodies he had no process in writing. Still a completely killer song though. P2 was the first album that Spencer had a part in the process of writing melodies and lyrics.

    • @alekoshred
      @alekoshred  Před 3 lety

    How would you rank the long songs man? Reptile, Omega and Racecar. I would have to go Omega > Racecar > Reptile, mostly due to nostalgia because I've been listening to Periphery for almost 5 years now. Reptile is great but for such a long song, it has a rather simplistic song structure, and I think the other tracks have a bit more surprising moments throughout.

    • @alekoshred
      @alekoshred  Před 3 lety +2

      Omega tops all three for me too, i find myself coming back to it a lot more often than Racear and Reptile, but i can't decide between those two which one i like more, maybe Reptile just because of the wide spectre of vocals showcased in it, but alone as instrumentals i'd say Racecar beats Reptile 🤔

    • @TundraCH
      @TundraCH Před 3 lety +1

      @@alekoshred For sure man, I feel like Omega kind of has the best of both worlds, great riffage and unpredictable structure like Racecar, and the great production and vocals from Spencer a la Reptile, plus can't beat that awesome jazz solo near the latter part of the track, such great dynamics throughout

  • @TheWongGamer007
    @TheWongGamer007 Před 3 lety +1

    Correct me if I am wrong about this but, the reason Spencer's vocals aren't as good in this album is because it was put together last minute with autotuning after their previous vocalist left the band. So it doesn't feel as polished as their later work. Not to mention that it was originally meant to be an instrumental album so having vocals just felt a little out of place at times. This is why whenever I come back to this album, especially racecar, I ALWAYS listen to the instrumental version, because it never feels boring and it's the way it was originally meant to be listened in. I really recommend listening to this song again without the vocals in your own time, as it gives you a different experience compared to with vocals. At least in my opinion it does. Thanks for finally getting to this song since there aren't many people reacting to this song. Try reacting to erised, as it has a guest solo by John Petrucci at the end of the song.

    • @alekoshred
      @alekoshred  Před 3 lety +2

      @@alekoshred No worries bro. I'm just happy that you are reacting and enjoy listening to one of my all time favourite bands back to back, instead of it being just a one time thing like most reactors. Periphery's music really just hits me in ways I've never felt before compared to other bands. I'm also an aspiring comic artist, and this band is also one of my biggest inspirations when writing and illustrating the story, characters and lore. Despite my minor gripes about their recent material(their last 2 albums to be exact), it still manages to make me feel things in ways I never expected emotionally.

      Also Spencer did improve a lot over the years and imo his cleans and growls sound quite different than on P1. Man, I even felt like his growls are heavier on Hail Stan than they were on the album(s) before that.
