The last 2 games Southgate has played a lone striker against teams playing a back 5 which is wrong, Kane is 3v1, one marks him (Milenkovic etc) while the other 2 cb's cover. That means the wingers can't get 1v1 with their fullbacks because there is always a CB to help them, TLDR our 3 forwards are 3v5 and our 4 defenders are 4v1 the correct decision would have been to bring on another striker to help Kane. It's not the players it's the manager...
Comparing Rice to Modric, Kroos or Jorginho is like comparing an apple to a lettuce.
Rice is an all-action box to box midfielder and his all round game is too good to waste him as anchor, of course he can play 6 but hes a destroyer not a pirlo/Jorginho type, hes not going to quarterback and ping the ball about because that's not his natural game.
The only way to fix the problem is to bring another 6 in and have Rice and Bellingham as 8's which for me is both of their best positions, the problem with that is there is no other 6 in the squad and Southgate knows it which is why he even mentioned Phillips. You could play Mainoo there but are you really going to put a lad in a critical position on his debut in massive tournament?

It's not just G Southgate it's also his captain H Kane. As they have this plan, ides, tactic, ethos or rubbish that no matter how well there playing up untill they score. When they do score early ish the first thing that happens is that H Kane drops into deep midfield/defensive role, where there's no out ball, so the whole team ends up trying to play out off there own 18 yard box & trying to defend a 1-0 lead which never happens as we invite so much pressure with so much time left the other team equalises or wins, as it's mega hard to back to playing the good attacking footy!!!
Drop ATA, H Kane & put Bellingham into the 8 role with the freedom to express himself & Foden into the 10 role & Palmer or A Gordon on the left wing with O Watkins up front high pressing. 21:20
Who decides what an inflated fee is? Chelsea bought Chukwuemeka from Villa 2 years ago for 20 million and nobody had a problem with that deal. Kellyman is younger and potentially has a higher ceiling. If you want to point fingers at academy players being overvalued, take a look at what Man City have been doing with their sales to Southampton since their former head of youth recruitment went to work there.
Also, loopholes such as this are necessary for an FFP limit that is entirely arbitrary and has not kept pace with the costs of transfer fees and salaries. Football finance expert Keiran Maguire calculated that the FFP loss limit should now be around £200 million in 2024.
Let's be real: FFP was never primarily about protecting clubs from incompetent/overly-ambitious owners. It was designed to protect the teams at the top whose revenues mean that they will always have an advantage. This is why current regulations are being replaced NOT ONLY with an anchoring measure (which would level the playing field quite significantly) but ALSO a wage cap that (how conveniently) negatively impacts upwardly mobile clubs that qualify for Europe more than anyone else.
Harry you said you cant think of A Cb ahead of Saliba in terms of a CB but how have you missed the man next to him. Gabriel over the last 12 months has been our best player in my opinion and looking at how we play I think Gabriel has the hardest job in the team. Gabriel has the harder of the CB roles in the team because he is the front footed defender who enters the most duals. Saliba and all covering CB's get a lot of credit because the front footed CB enters the duals and contests a ball they cant win to stop the attacker getting the ball. The ball then often falls uncontested to the covering CB who then get the credit despite doing nothing.
I am not digging out Saliba who for me is maybe the 2nd best defender in the world right now. I am highlighting that Gabriel open himself up for more errors by contesting a lot more difficult duals being the type of aggressive defender he is. On top of this Saliba has the exceptional White next to him where as Gabriel is often on his own or with the awful defender Zinchenko or a out of position Tomiyasu or Kiwior. Gabriel has to cover a lot more ground than Saliba and that makes his role even harder. To then make it even more obvious to me and that is that Gabriel is the leader at the cback who dictates and organises.
To me I think Gabriel has become the best CB in the world and I dont say that lightly. I loved Militao a couple of seasons ago he had an amazing season and Van Dijk was on another planet. I think Stones is a top defender but misses a lot of football and so on but Gabreil is the best right now.

Why do people insist on he is thos or that. Saliba has been great. Still to do it in a huge crunch match etc. Just ket him get on with his job. Too early to call him the best in world. He had a poor ish spell last season. Hopefully he yet again kicks on next season and does cement himself as a truly elite player.
I think Rice has been good but over rated as in his positive influence highlighted but the negative impact he had on our central attacking threat getting under cooked. I hope he evolves a lot yet. Rodri started well at City then didn't look like he was going to be good enough to replace Fabinho but had now surpassed him. Rice has a ling wayvto go to be the footballer Rodri is (asshole or not). Rice has been good but all this talk of cheap atc105 is nonsense

Personally i don't think Villa win it but as a match going Arsenal fan i already accept that it's not about winning trophies but 'competing' and attracting world class players.

You fans need to come together and have a big impact stop watching the game of football for a while hurt their pockets because one owner can have multiple teams. That’s how you have these stupid rules if you look in America here in our country or sport have players union players association which the owners and the players vote on everything and revenue made from basketball. American football is split 50-50 in one owner cannot on multiple teams and as long as you’re building a team, there’s a salary cap show that will prevent you from having eight superstars and it doesn’t be a Barcelona and Real Madrid show in his past 30 years it’s just them two teens. It makes the game boring here in America salary cap. It makes the game competitive Real Madrid just got Kylian Mbappé between him and two other players in a long-term contract. They got $1.4 billion.
