- In this video, I review the air lite sit pad as an upgrade backpad for the Gossamer Gear Mariposa backpack. I have used the Gossamer Gear backpack for over two years. I highly recommend the pack. #gossamergear #backpacking #gearreview
For someone with OCD you really needed to finish tucking the top part of the new pad all the way in. I tried yelling into my phone to get your attention but you just kept showing me that half tucked in corner like you couldn’t see it!!!!! 😂😂
Just curious, would there be any benefit in leaving the old pad in there and putting the new pad over it?
That is so funny! I was actually thinking the same thing when I was watching it after publishing it a few months ago. It drove me nuts...I wanted to go back and tuck in that corner too...🤣🤣🤣✌️. I’ve put about 300 miles on my Mariposa over the past 4 1/2 years. Absolutely love it. My first pack was from another major pack manufacturer. Unfortunately, that pack weighed 4 lbs before putting anything in it. The Mariposa is just under 2 lbs empty for the medium. It carries like a dream and I love all the pockets. I ordered the upgraded sit pad and it’s really made a difference when backpacking in the swampy summer months. Can’t recommend the Mariposa enough.

Using the pad as a cushion is a good idea. I don't know a thing about backpacks but that is a nice feature. Love seeing all the green as I hate winter. :)

Hey Crow, great info here! I love that the pad can double up as a seat, rather ingenious. I genuinely have never heard of Gossamer Gear. I am not a HUGE gear junkie, but I am curious nonetheless. I’m gonna go check this brand out. I know Tim likes gear/specs a little more than me, perhaps he can fill me in too.

Nice! I was looking for an ultralight backpack and saw the mariposa pack, really liked the higher side pocket and all the other pockets. It isn't as "ultralight" as i had hope for it to be. 😔
Yeah, there are more lightweight packs. I now carry the Zpacks Arc Blast. But, I still use this pack at times. The pad works well. It is very comfortable. Appreciate you always watching! Hope you are well. Crow✌️

I have the Granite Gear Crown 2 60 and I love it, but my sister just bought me the Mariposa for Christmas! Havent had it out but can't wait to try! :)

Hey Crow! I just bit the bullet on a pack. It actually came down to the Mariposa and a Hilltop. I went with the Hilltop because I'm looking to size down to a 40L. It was such a tough choice that I'm buying the mariposa too when I can afford one so I have a nice 60 too! Great pack....it helps knowing how long yours has lasted.

Great video Crow. This one has been on my list. I really want to upgrade my pack. My Osprey is just to heavy for the base weight I want to be at.
Appreciate it! I used this pack for 3 years. I recently just got the zpacks arc blast. But, I will say that I used this pack for 3 years and loved it. The only complaint I had was the fact that I got a sweaty back. This new pad helped. But, I am loving the “arch” in the arc blast to get the pack off my back. Plus, the Arc Blast dropped me 10 ounces in weight from the Mariposa. But, the Mariposa is just well built and super comfortable. Appreciate ya! Crow✌️

I've always wondered about your pack. I'd consider it but I just picked up a Granite Gear Crown 2 in an attempt to lighten my load. It is 1/2 the weight of my Teton Sports Explorer 4000. I haven't had a chance to get it out on trail yet though... what with snow and winter and all! :-P I also just picked up a first pack for Rugged Mountain Momma. It is a Decathlon Forclaz Trek and has a ton of cool features. Not only that but it was inexpensive too. See ya around Mr. Crow!!

What, exactly, is it about the upgraded pad that made such an improvement for you? I have a Mariposa with the standard pad, and I love it as is, but I'm always up for making something good even better. What is better about the upgrade?
To me, the pad is more comfortable. The longer I had the pack, the more the old pad seemed to slip and slide on my back. This one has a more rigid form to it. I had hoped it would have more air flow. But, it doesn’t. The original pad is very flimsy. That is just my humble opinion. It just works for me. But, I finally switched to the Zpacks Arc Blast to create that air flow between my back and the pack. I am really liking it. Appreciate you watching. Crow✌️
I love my Mariposa and have long eyed the Air Pad but have never made the jump due to the weight penalty. You obviously spoke to the increased support comfort of the Air Pad, does it do a good job of actually letting air flow across the back while hiking?
I have to be honest and say that it is definitely more comfortable. But, it really doesn’t help with air flow in the lack. That fact ultimately made me move to a Zpacks Arc Blast. I can put the pack off my back with the arch. But, I do love this pack. I had a lot of great journeys with this pack. Appreciate ya! Crow✌️

The best I can tell, it is 23” long, from top to bottom. Is that the dimensions you are looking for?

Have you noticed a big difference in sweaty back between new and old pad?
Actually, I stopped using the GG pack a while back. I really didn’t notice much of a difference. I use the HMG Junction now. But, that GG pack was amazing. Thanks for watching it. 🐦⬛
