- Brandon Herrera has just finished the first chapter in a story that is nothing less than inspiring. A youtuber took on establishment powers and almost won. In fact he lost by less than 500 votes. He spent a 10th of his opponent, who had massive encument advantages and made the RINOcompromise his general election war chest be spending 10 million dollars to beat a youtuber. It is my contention that he didnt really lose anything except something he didnt really want anyway. Either way Lil Tony's career is likely over. (tony gonzalez)

I wasn't that passionate about the 2A purpose until I saw how bad Bidens administration was and how Covid was handled.

407 votes is within the margin of "know nothing" voters. These are the people that just pull the lever for the name they recognize and have no clue about any of the issues. In this case, more money for more mailers/billboards may have helped Brandon.

Trump probably doesn’t even know the differences between Tony’s and Brandon’s beliefs. He just sees a guaranteed republican victory so it doesn’t matter to him who the republican candidate is because the republicans are gonna sweep the district no matter what.
Unfortunately stuff like this is why it’s so hard to change stuff in the real world. It’s not even malice or someone actively working against you it’s just the unfortunate reality of the situation.

Per Texas primary rules (from what I recall), if the count is within 10%, a recount can be requested. The count here is within 0.4%, so absolutely qualifies.

By flooding the airwaves, T.V., and internet with mud slinging adds of questionable truth Katie Hobbs very narrowly “won” the election. There was a lot of controversy over election fraud that was not allowed to be presented in Kari Lakes law suits against the elections boards. Makes you wonder how much corruption and collusion there is in our courts and the judges ruling over them. Just look at what’s going on in NY CITY RIGHT NOW!

I was watching a video with Abbott at the NRA talking about how pro-2A he is, and Texans saying I love that about our governor. I had to point out to them that their "pro-2A" governor was campaigning in TX-23 to keep a gun controller in office.
Much like Joni Ernst, she'd talked big about her total support for the 2A going all the way back to when she was in Iowa state government, but when it was time to put her money where here mouth was she voted for the same anti-2A bill that Gonzalez did causing Herrera challenging Gonzalez in this race.

There's also the misdated issue on bexar county, there is talk that an estimated 30% of votes weren't counted in bexar county because the ballot sheet had the wrong date in its code that the machine reads. If that is true, the race isn't over and those votes need to be recounted by hand.
I was looking at some of those articles and the media consistently described 23 as a "moderate" or "centrist" district in a red state. That Brandon got that close tells you a lot about where the political center really is.
Also, one outlet said that a 400 vote margin is close enough that Brandon could appeal for a recount under state law. If he's serious about getting to Washington this might not be over yet.
I mean he's always stated that he didn't expect to win and wanted to send a message. I guess that message is you're gonna have to spend 9million dollars for every 400 votes.

An annoyance is that about HALF the voters who voted in the main Primary showed up to vote in the run-off. About 57,000 votes were cast in the primary, but the runoff only saw just shy of 30,000. Oddly enough Mr. Herrera got only 400ish more votes than he did in the primary. So had that district cared and done their civic duty and researched and voted this should have been a different story. This was a race where every vote could have mattered and way too many people stayed home.
That happens almost every time there’s a runoff unfortunately.

Was watching the Angry Cops-Fat Electrician live stream during the vote count, and they were using some source that was showing the vote tallies for each county. One particular county - Maverick? - hadn't reported even initial results by just before midnight. So...definitely a possible place for shenanigans, especially since comments they made made it sound like it was one of the border counties in District 23.

#TX23 Resident, this is a large district and there are a lot of people that aren't all 100% Conservative. They also keep coming in from out of state trying to turn this state. Lastly the money is flowing in Uvalde, the media, the heart strings are being pulled on a constant basis and Brandon made it exceptionally clear he was the gun candidate. Brandon, I love him, I have met him several times and even shared my whiskey with him. He is an excellent dude and I voted for him. He just wasn't as polished as the machine that came out for Tony. Also, Tony attacked him on the veteran suicide thing and no amount of youtube presence was going to get past that point. Brandon was slow to respond to the criticism, and his message wasn't polished. It was a tough race and I really wanted him to win but its a big machine he was fighting against.
And in spite of everything, the machine only won by 0.4%. $24,570 for each of those votes. Gonzales is not going to get another turn after this; the machine is going to replace him with someone less expensive. Without the benefit of incumbent recognition, anyone who runs against the replacement has an even better chance.
Well, you are getting 2 Conservatives from VA and a business, bringing some and hiring others. It will only be a few positions and they will be programming positions, at that, but they will be my niece and her beau. It is possible they move one county over, but looks like TX23rd. Young, ambitious and Pro-2A! Right now in a Purple-Blue area.

A Rhino like Tony has alot of resources to spin up a narrative or address something. With the unsubscribe podcast and the fat electrician community noting Tony into the atmosphere on Twitter exposing him on every angle of his attacks on Brandon. It makes me wonder how well people in district 23 were really paying attention etc. I'd like to see some Tony voter interviews and see why they voted for him. Other thing is available contact messaging. I doubt Brandon had access to the mass txt system that always is sent to people over candidates during election season. I still get txts from the Trump campaign asking for me to make a donation.

Brandon would have to pay for the costs or a recount. It's not cheap and it probably wouldn't change the outcome.

Bexar might be a wash because that was still pretty firmly for Gonzales.

This election may have scared Tony enough that he will start listening to his constituents, but I wouldn't count on it. In my opinion we should run a "gun-tuber" in every district that has an election. Continue the charge so to speak. Personally I think Curt should run. I know he doesn't want to, but that's exactly the kind of person you want to run. Someone who is only there to do his duty, and get the heck out of there. If the actual gun tuber doesn't want to run, have him endorse someone that is hardcore Constitution, especially 2A and promote the heck out of him on their channels. Tony Gonzalez previously in 2020 had 57 vote win in a republican primary runoff. That candidate requested a recount. It interesting that TG both times has been in such close primaries runoffs.
the problem is that the district includes San Antonio and El Paso, two massive cities that are mega liberal compared to most of Texas. What really surprises me is how few people showed up to vote on the runoff. There should have been massive numbers show up.
District 23 covers half of El Paso county. El Paso itself is in district 16

There is one reason he lost in my opinion. There are 700,000 people give or take in congressional district 23. 30k of them could be bothered to take an hour, maybe a few hours, to vote. Tony did not win because he was the most liked choice, he won because nobody could be bothered to give a fuck about the election. It's honestly sad that things will stay the same because solely because nobody gave a shit.

Traveling through the area for work I started seeing new banners for Gonzalez that featured DPS/CBP endorsement. I didn't see any of those until after the announcement from the party that they'll do something about it. Hell when I went to check my registry to vote the person on the phone was talking about Herrera but was sad to hear I wasn't in the district. Something might be brewing in Texas so gotta watch out for anything weird.
407 vote difference. I lost by 500 votes in a Republican primary in Western Kansas. But I sure wanted to win that seat.

It's more so spending money to get their names out there. The more people here of a candidate, the more likely they will vote for said candidate, even if they don't know that person's politics.
By using ads and TV spots to either convince people to vote for you, or to not vote for your opponent. The metric of "cost per vote" is just a measure of how effective the ads and TV spots were. In this case, if Gonzales wanted more votes than he got, he would have had to have spent an additional $24,570 on ads and TV spots for each additional vote he wanted. That's a poor return on investment.
Accordingly, I do not expect Gonzales to run again, or if he does, it will be against a new establishment challenger as the establishment will find him too expensive and will put up someone else in his place.
The democrats are experts at spending our tax money to buy votes. Just look at what the illegals get for free just for coming here.
It didn't really, he got only about half as many votes the second round than the first one, Brandon gained more. It has more to do with the 14k who didn't vote for Tony not showing up to support Brandon.

My concern at this point is this is a major shot across the establishments bow. Now they most likely be looking for retribution against Brandon for even daring to challenge their pawn.

I'd like to say this was a W, but a bittersweet one. Having Brandon in office could have reshaped a lot of things 2A-associated in a positive light, but while that didn't happen, we really made Tony Gonzalez sweat this year. And with Brandon having made a generally good impact on District 23, if he runs again, he might have a better chance.
Brandon should run as an independent this fall anyway.
But the tenth of the money Brandon spent went actually into the race. What the weasel spent went into graft, corruption and slimy deals.
