  • On today's episode of Gun Industry drama we attempt to end the trade show. If you are tired of booth reviews, sales reps throwing word salad at you, and those trash interviews made to wack off higher-ups at companies by shills trying to shmooze their way to a free toy, this is the video for you. Gun industry drama about trade shows.

As a vendor booth talker, I can't stand when people want to do spoken content at range day events. I can't think correctly when I'm ear pro'd up, screaming over gun fire and other people's yelling over gun fire.
Indoors I'm ok with, but my goal is spending a few minutes speaking with the most creators possible and hopefully finding a few relationships that might make sense to work on LATER.
Otherwise, I'm just there to let people touch and feel product, decide if it's something they might like to buy later. "Trade shows" are essentially a physical store we setup a handful of times a year because you can't taste and smell a thing you see on the internet 😂

Personally, I don’t like it when manufacturers send it items to people at no charge for review. They hand picked the best of the best. I would prefer someone go to a store pick it up off the shelf pay for it out of their own pocket and then review it.this will cut down on any quality control issues in my opinion.

That's a common and, at least IMO, a fallacious opinion. Most of the companies sending things to youtubers for review aren't manufacturers or retail stores, they're marketing departments. They lack the knowledge and availability to do what you're suggesting. I review things like welders and auto equipment on my channel and I've dealt with these marketing departments directly. I've been sent welders with bad displays, plasma cutters missing essential parts and auto test equipment that's DOA right out of the box. I could go on and on about this. No one in these marketing departments is hand picking, testing, then repackaging products for youtube review. I'm not wholly familiar with the gun industry in this regard so I won't say it never happens, but from my experience and what I know goes on at some of these companies, it's very rare.

    • @armorers_wrench
      @armorers_wrench Před 8 dny

I don't believe youtubers when they say "they sent this out for free but I won't let that effect my opinion". They only disclose the gun was sent for free because they're legally required to inform the viewer in some way that there is a financial relationship between themselves and the manufacturer. They will claim no money changes hands but the way they hide it is through the Leviathan tribe. Company X sends gun for "review"(i.e. commercial product placement) to CZcamsr. Company X sends money for paid commercial product placement to Leviathan Tribe. Leviathan Tribe then pays their CZcams content creator for the review. But that financial relationship won't influence their opinion at all...

That company wasn't right for telling this dude how to run his channel but saying nobody watches the booth content seems out of touch - people watch to see what's new from reputable or interesting companies. Not all of us can attend the shows and not all of us are looking for the same thing this guy is.
Sometimes I want to see video content of an item I've only seen pictures of before it comes out to get more context on the product.
Also, booth content is useful to provide a public answer from companies on why they haven't released something that was previously shown and when it will be released. For example, it was informative to see Eotech asked publicly about the status of the OGL at Shot this year. Obviously their answer is not set in stone, but it is informative none the less.
TFB Showtime routinely stacks more views than videos on VSO. The audience is there... just not for VSO and that's okay.
This reads as an attempt to start drama. Especially calling out channels who do booth content. Additionally, saying "I know I'm right" usually indicates the contrary.

Here's a free idea to all gun manufacturers out there watching this video.
Make a semiautomatic bullpup shotgun with a tube magazine (because box and drum magazines are dumb).
It needs multiple options for hot swap barrel lengths and tube magazines.
Rails that go almost all the way up for lights etc, choke options, binary trigger options, folding sights, threaded barrel, and ambi controls that can swap from one side or the other (not a safety on both sides because of various mitten sizes)
Ambi options should also inculde left or right ejection port. A good plate that seals the opposite side to prevent debris. Do not skimpout on the buttpads either.
Bonus: Design it around mini shells instead of mini shells being an after thought.

If he sees something interesting he will make a short about it (30 to 60 seconds) that's usually just him talking about why he thinks it's interesting. Range day chit chat videos are the worst. Trying to talk through gunfire and figure out what someone is pitching is awful. Voice over really just needs to be used there if they’re gonna be done.
It’s also generally not indicative of the final product. Pre-release units are often heavily broken in, modified, adjusted over a year and more importantly made with higher end materials than production models.

There are so many AR variants on the market, many of them have no review videos beyond a trade show interviews. Additionally, I don’t have access to trade shows as I’m not an insider. I like watching them occasionally to see what’s coming to the market as well. At the end of the day, to each his own. Some find it useful while others like you don’t. It doesn’t matter what you, and I think if enough people find those useful which apparently enough people do. So, as long as this is the status quo people are going to keep doing all of this things.

The *only* time a booth interview or trade show range day experiemce is interesting is when it is a truly *new* thing. And even then, it's only an "elevator talk" that is under minute.
Something like, "This thing that folks have been asking for for years, and your'e announcing it will be out on a *concrete* delivery date and MSRP within the next few months."
I dont give a shit about yet another reticle offering from Primary Arms for a scope that will be available at some vague time in the future and at an unknown price.

@4:35 the CEO of SIG recently stated that he thinks the bimetal cases like that used in the 277 fury is gonna be the next major leap forward in firearms technology 🤨 All it does it allow higher pressures which i think in turn would require guns to be much more durable and therefore more expensive? 🤷

Gun Industry Drama: Gun Shows are Over
I have not been to a gun show in years simply because there are no deals or sales to be had like there used to be at gun shows. I don't need to go to a gun show and see the same prices from gun shops that I see at the gun shops. The gun show has no purpose if gun shops are not willing to offer deals or sales to move their products they can't sell in their shops. I don't need to waste a five dollar gun show entry fee for that.

I don't go to the public gun shows any more because they won't let people carry inside and make a big deal about every weapon being checked and zip-tied with no loaded mags or even loose ammo.
I won't shop at any store or event that is a victim disarmament zone so why should I make an exception for a gun show? Fudds gonna Fudd. Sure, it is heir silly show so they make the rules but I'm not going there Elmer.

Well me personally, i do like to see the new items but yes it is hard to hear, ill give you that. The only thing id say is keep those videos short but i do like seeing vids of the trade shows with all the latest greatest stuff. Again, keep it short, introduce the product, basic info, then ask if ppl are interested in you testing it further. Even the ppl who think its stupid or "solving a problem that doesnt exist" will drive the algorithm for you. Some of my fav videos are the James Reeves TFB TV channel vids with either James or someone else at a trade show talking to the designer/ engineer of the product. But to be fair, he is usually inside where its quiet and not on the range. Seems a lot of them just use some b-roll of them on the range while they do voice over.

The gun industry is where innovation comes to die. Yet another AR-15, yet another striker fired 9mm glock knock off, yet another weird thing chambered in 300 BLK. I know it's not exacty cheap to tool up to make a gun as well as design it but if PSA can make an MP7 clone and an StG44 clone and Brownells can make an AR-18 clone for a reasonable price, why can't another company do something similar with novel historical guns and other interesting things that require a C&R license and tens of thousands of dollars to purchase with a great deal of fear involved in shooting them should they break. Personally i'd love a semi-auto Lanchester or MP28 clone. It's just a tube with a stock, how expensive could tooling for that be? The AR market and striker fired 9mm market are saturated as it is, tooling for that is a waste of money.

Nobody wants to be the lab rat anymore. We want tested equipment thats not a waste of money.

The title of this rant is misleading.
"Trade Shows"and "Gun Shows" are different things.
Shot show and trade shows are companies showing the new products snd networking.
Gun Shows, are for dealers and private sellers selling to the public.

it's not just firearms. Guitars, cameras and other products have the same "show" kind of model. How can one get a realistic impression of a guitar at NAMM in the booth? They cannot, maybe first impression but not a real meaningful review. Same with cameras, it takes more than a couple hours with a camera to be able to review it and say if it is good or not. Crazy they think it can.
