  • In this video I'm going to explain how to polish bicycle chrome. The chrome on the steel fork of my Koga Miyata Skyrunner has rust pits on them, one more than the other, and especially on the inside of the fork.
I decided to buy Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponges to see where that would get me.
The immediate benefit of using a magic eraser to polish bicycle chrome is that it has a good cleaning effect without damaging or scratching the chrome. The last thing you want to see happening is your vintage bike parts becoming dull.
It’s not that effective in removing the rust pits. So you’ll still have to use the old-fashioned way of simply sliding your nails over them.

Commandant cleaner M3 of M4 werkt goed, voor hardnekkige roest: gebruik staalwol 0000 ( zeer fijn), dit veroorzaakt hele fijne krasjes daarom vervolgens weer de commandant, werkt bij mijn resto’s erg goed.
    Succes !

Seconding this, the finest or one step coarser steel wool, then buffing it out by hand, gorgeous results and time efficient. Also a good way to clean spokes and rims. I keep a mask handy because it is a very dusty job.

I don't remember where I saw this (probably GCN? Not sure), but I've had success with soaking a piece of aluminum foil in vinegar and rubbing it onto the chromed parts to dissolve the rust, followed by a copious rinse with water. For an ever better finish, I then apply Autosol metal polish.
