my grandma would teach me to crochet as a kid while she would sit tatting. I always wanted her to teach me, but with age and health it wouldn't be possible now. I would love to make something even small to show her. we both feel it is important to pass on the skills of crochet, knitting, tatting, and anything with yarn, string, and thread. it's becoming a lost trade. so I would also like to say you are truly a great woman, and I hope you put as many of these videos as possible on here. passing on the skills in a way our youth will see them. 😆

My mom would have a sewing circle during the summer when school was out. I learned how to embroider at a very young age. My mom didnt know how to crochet or knit or tattering. I learned to basic knit from a friend around 10. Then crochet during the beer can craze when I turned17. I do mostly crochet now. I tried to teach myself tatting but gave up. This sounds more easier. I just might have to give it a try.

The only tutorial that made any sense to me. You are the only one that I could see that tells us to bring our yarn all the way around in a loop at the beginning. Nobody else tells you this and I got really confused why I could not get my stitches off the needle to make a flower ~now I know.

Well, you saved me a 10 hour one way trip to Chattanooga TN with this video.
I tried years ago to tat using shuttle, but never caught on, friend of mine does needle tatting but is in TN while I am in NW MO.
I got my things in a kit from Handy Hands...and have sat last 4 nights trying to figure out why I couldn't get mine to go right.
Friend tried to help, sent photos by phone message...but to no avail.
Within seconds of you beginning, nailed the problem. I was not going to end of the cut off thread to begin, instead I was just using the thread as it stretched up by the needle...so had nothing to slide onto.
Thanks to you, I will try again tonight.
I also called friend second I saw what I had been doing wrong to tell her thanks to you, I had figured it out.

I found some beautiful pieces in a ziplock bag when my husband and I moved into our home back in 2016. They weren't kept by the previous owners as family heirlooms! But no one has been able to tell me anything about the skill which went into them- until now! I've had to sleuth the stitches and techniques to find a kind soul who suggested they were a combination of embroidery and tatting! I want to learn this skill! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skill 😍

A friend of mine years ago tatted doilies… I loved them she used a shuttle. I’ve always wanted to learn. I believe everyone learns differently and some teachers work for some but not all. I spent yesterday frustrated and literally wadding up thread and cussing. Your video had me making rings in no time. Thank you! The only thing I did wrong was not holding the thread from needle eye so basically there was only one tail… and the thread didn’t pull through. …. Rewatched and got it!

I never heard of needle tatting till just now, I can just about use the tatting shuttle, but it does hurt my left hand so after making a few bits and pieces I reluctantly stopped making tatted lace. This looks much simpler and you have made it so easy to understand. I have some needles which look similar to the one you are using, I got them last year to use for weaving, and I have piles of crochet cotton so I am now good to go. Thank you so much for this video, you are a genius.
