Was at a store's parking lot and a guy thought he was leaking coolant. Let him know it was water draining from the evaporator. Great info, I might go for the ASE A7 in the near future!

Great video! Timely also. Perhaps you could add a second part to this - What happens when you see yellow/green A/C compressor oil on the garage floor?

When I first started driving a car, I hit a pothole. Then I stopped and looked underneath the car. I was terrified that something was dripping under it.
I ran to the first shop to check it, and you can imagine my amusement when that said it was just water ))

What if I do not have my air conditioning on and I still get the small puddle of water? In fact every time I turn my Jeep on there's always a puddle. Great video, Thanks

But there is also some oil in the system, along with the gas. That oil is used for lubricating the compressor. When the oil degrades, the copessor may get damaged over time.

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cab LS Short bed and it has a problem so I replace the AC Port on the AC line under my hood and got a big can of the AC stuff to put it in through the line while the AC is full blast, coldest setting and using the AC bottle to fill up the AC stuff for about 5 minutes before it No AC what so ever but after trying to recharge/ refill the AC stuff it was still blowing warm/hot air from the AC vents inside the truck so what would need to be next.

I used to work in an autoparts store and I remember that they used to sell those freeons and one customer told me and complaining that he bought a free-on and it worked like for 10 mins and stopped workikg. I told him is because he had a leak in the a/c system. And he insisted that no, that thats because the freeon consumed and that the car needs more. I told him that the "freeon cant consumed because is a sealed system. You have a leak somewhere in the system". And he got a little mad saying, "no, my car was not like that. I put the freeon, and in 10 mins the a/c stopped working". After I saw he was still stubbor, I followed him along and said, "oh ok. Then i dont know". He told me the freeon came bad, and I told him, "could be". Lol. Sometimes you cant reason with some people. I was trying to help him but he tought he knows more than the people who works there, lol.

The window thing I disagree on for the most efficient cooling you wanna keep all the windows closed or the temp will never get cold enough and it overworks the compressor especially on cars that cycle the compressor. Some cars use a thermostat on the evaporator if you are rolling around with your window open allowing the hot air in that evaporator will never get cold enough to shut off the ac compressor it’ll be working hard the whole time. Plus why would you wanna have the ac on with the windows open you are just sending all the cold air outside mine well just turn the ac off at that point

My a/c is cold for the first 7 or 8 miles I drive, then it quits cooling. On rare occasions it will start cooling again for a little while off and on. Usually it won't work again until the next day. I replaced the high pressure switch. No change.

You have a weak compressor it’s starting to go out. You can test this if it’s cold at idle but gets warm when engine rpms increase the compressor is going out

Wow, I never realized our government outlawed refrigerant to DIY'ers. Make sense tho. Their also trying their best to doing away with gasoline, diesel and motor oils.

@4:10 so Sue is wrong about will your gas mileage change if you have the AC on/windows up verses AC off/windows down. Several studies have showed that there is no change in gas mileage.

  • @traubd

She's wrong about having the window up saving fuel. Myth busters proves having the windows open saves fuel.
