As an Australian student currently in year 12, I have never heard of this red pen ban, all my teachers mark with red pen and I also have never seen anybody be upset about the colour of the pen. Plus, always being nice to students isn’t always going to help them, I’m not saying they should be rude, but always being positive or telling the student they did well isn’t going to help.
All my grades I had got back was all in red ink , not sure where these blokes found this bs from 😹

They stopped using red pens to mark grades in the schools I went to in Australia
As someone who graduated school in Australia a couple years ago that red pen rule is absolute bs we get told we aren't allowed to mark in anything that isn't red and that you can't do your work in red. Red is literally designated for marking I've been yelled at for not using red. i think they fucked up their research and got it backwards

We had the red pen rule in our UK rule, and everything had to be marked in purple instead. The problem was, the cool kid bic 4-way pens were black, green, blue and red, and you had to use the red up somehow, so a lot of the graffiti in the toilets was done in red, so I'm not sure if it was the most sensible idea after all.

In case you were wondering, Smarties are different in the United States compared to Smarties in Canada and the Uk. Here in the states they are a more chalky candy while in CA and the UK they are chocolates, if I’m not mistaken

My high school I went to. (In the UK). The headteacher banned hugging (even when kids were upset/just a normal greeting for most kids). It was a massive talking point, it was even in the news. I gave a friend a hug who was crying and was told to stop. It was so dumb.
He tried to ban the word Christmas and also had a red line going around the school yard. You had to ask to go to the bathroom.
I get the asking to go to the bathroom thing- we had the same rule, where it was one at a time, unless you had a special pass, as people were using it to bunk and it was becoming a problem with fire alarms.
I'm glad it was dropped at college/ uni though as we had longer lessons (my longest was three hours), especially since a lot of people had their periods by then, and it's unreasonable to ask someone to wait two hours if their pad is leaking or they could get TSS.
@@cazzabojangles there was a thick red line around any area students could escape. I understood it to be fair because when for example - I had a break there was other classes going on so it was done so no disruption was going on.

One of the schools near me was considering placing a rule that you were not allowed to bring your phone to school, or else it would be given to the office. The more you broke the rule the longer the office would have it (sometimes including overnight) until smth happened (don’t remember what). If I remember correctly, I think they were talking about checking random students bags every morning to check if they brought their phone with them, and obviously people were upset about it. I think part of the rule got implemented and apparently students GPA’s improved so my school almost did it.
We made a big fuss and argued and argued over things like needing to call parents or in certain emergency or health cases (blood sugar, medication, personal issues, appointment updates, etc.)., mentally disabled and neurodivergent students needing phones to communicate or deal with meltdowns, etc. We also kept telling the office staff that they’d be the ones dealing with the upset parents and time wasting calls, and they decided it wasn’t worth dealing with parents.
I understand why schools would want to push for this (bc phones are addicting and distracting), but surely there’s better ways than fully banning them? Maybe having to put your phone in a bin or wall pocket thing for class, and if you needed it you’d tell the teacher? A rule for teachers that you’re not allowed to deny medical uses and updates?
But then any smart kid would just put there phone down there balls, problem solved? And if a teacher tried taking it u say no lol. I swear people now days are so brainwashed.
wtf that how it is where i live and we never have problems on kids calling their parents and stuff for emergency cause u can just use the school phone for it. ur just making an excuse to have phones in schools and i have never heard about a kid having serious problems because his/her parents were not getting contacted on time
@@okok-lh9gg there are teachers that won’t even let you go to the bathroom, you seriously think there aren’t teachers that wouldn’t let you go to the office if you needed to make a call? Not even to mention that some schools have thousands of students. You want to deal with that many students if multiple of them need to make a call? And some situations don’t need a call, it could just be a short and simple text message. It would be more of a waste of time to make them go to the office and call than it would be to just tell your teacher you need to text your parent. There are plenty of reasons why taking phones away or not letting them bring them at all is not a good idea.
