    • @TJackson736

@@a7dfj8aerj False gates are supposed to create false sets when picking. A false set is when a pin or, in this case, disk gets set to a false position. Typically when a pin or disk is set, that means it is the correct position. This confusion can foil picking attempts.
A zero cut means that the pin or dock doednt need to be moved to be in the correct position for the lock to be opened.

There is a new industry standard of pickproof locks:
LPL0 - Low Security (Can be picked by LPL in under 30 seconds)
    LPL1 - Moderate Security (under 1 minute)
    LPL2 - High Security (under 2 minutes)
LPL3 - Ultra High Security (under 3 minutes)
    LPL4 - Maximum Security (under 5 minutes)
LPL5 - Unpickable (Cannot be picked by LPL)
If your lock bears any of these labels, then it exceeds current industry standards as appropriate.

William Bishop People can make ‘unpickable’ locks. LPL has a couple, he showed them in his paracentric keyway video, that he considers beyond the skill of any lock picker. There are a few more in Bosnian Bill’s naughty bucket that weren’t even worth wasting time trying. A few have even resisted the combined efforts of LPL’s skill set and BB’s tool crafting and impressioning ingenuity.
If one were to find one of these locks from BB’s bucket ‘in the field’ I think it would be safe to deem it ‘unpickable’ if two expert level lock enthusiasts couldn’t nondestructively bypass it in a controlled setting.
There are a myriad of reasons why these types of locks aren’t commonplace though, and perhaps the biggest reason of all is, as LPL preaches, a lock is only as secure as the weakest link in the entire security system. There is no reason to waste money making locks that are beyond the skills of any lock picker when a destructive attack is not only more likely to happen, but also an objectively easier to bypass the lock.
The only reason the outrageous, impractical, unpickable locks exists is because people in general, and that includes both the lock pickers and the lock designers, welcome a challenge. If you tell someone they can’t do something they’ll do everything in their power to prove you wrong.
Sure they can make an impossible lock to pick, but what is probably more impossible is to make one that is financially successful and practical enough for everyday use. That’s the challenge that everyone who has been lock-making business has faced since day 1 and so far no one has conquered the challenge.

@@futbolplaya07 Chances are if LPL did get paid for consultation work, we wouldn't be watching the outcome on this channel. Such is usually accompanied by an NDA. Content like this that he has made, particularly for this lock, is a perfect fit for an overwhelming majority of companies. He gets something to play with in his hobby, he gets content for the channel (which is basically a lock encyclopedia at this point) and the company gets feedback from arguably one of the best lock pickers out there. There's a lot more that goes into making a lock for commercial purposes (sell for profit) than just design. It's got to be easy to produce, it's got to be reliable, all things outside of LPL's realm of specialty.

Putting this product in contrast with pretty much every other lock on here, I'd be happy if my team produced it. No lock / security measure is deemed impenetrable, they're simply designed as methods for increasing the time it takes an individual to get through them. Items of extreme importance typically have some guys with guns inbound once a threat is acknowledged and as such the security measure is designed to prevent smash and grab events. Other security techniques rely on making something a "hard" target, ie: 30 cars in a parking lot, thieves are going for the easier targets. Get as much loot as quickly as possible. Now if you look at the trailers that the USG uses to transport nuclear weapons and related stuff -- those go far beyond simple locks -- they've got some crazy active systems including basically blowing a substantial amount of fast-setting spray foam all over everyone / thing. The agency is NNSA -- read about their trailers that look identical to a random everyday truck / trailer combo.

Excellent vid! IMO if they take your advice it'll be a new near legendary padlock.
Only other piece of advice - to the consumer - get a "MASTER" lock logo...stick it on...
That way if it's in a setting a thief thinks he can bypass while "Casing the Joint" then wastes 10 minutes using a rake attack while having his criminal 'friends' along trying to impress them what a super lockpick he is. Then they either run off or they pull out an abrasion disk - likely breaking it if it's attached to a chain but no easy way to hold onto it - and there's no argument they weren't trying to criminally break in when Da Fuzz finally bothers to show up... (versus loitering/lost etc.)

    • @DavidShepheard
      @DavidShepheard Před rokem

I think that putting Master Lock stickers over your locks, would attract a bunch of low quality walk-by thieves, who come and probe at all your locks.
A better strategy would be to get some sort of "lock condom" that covers up the outside of padlocks, to conceal the type of padlocks you own. A low quality criminal would be tempted to cut that off to see what they are up against, so it would work like an anti-tamper seal.
