The Hungarian City Built Over 80 Underwater Caves

- As one of Europe’s most famous cities, Budapest has become a tourist hotspot known for its history, its architecture and its love of water. While most people soak above the surface in the city’s famed geothermal baths, below the metropolis lies a secret subterranean world ripe for exploration. The Hungarian capital is home to over 80 geothermal springs. As this naturally heated water flowed deep below the Earth’s surface, it carved out hundreds of caves, making Budapest home to the largest collection of thermal caves in the world. Though divers have charted more than four miles of tunnels since the 1950s, much remains to be explored.

Just came back from Budapest last week. Such a wonderful city!!

What did you all do there
How are you guys making such high budget videos without adds everyday
bluludaboi at 0:18 looks like it was a partnership for this video

GBS is CNN's love letter for millennials.. 😂

1:43 is that divers flippers saying "HA HA"

Wait, is Budapest a "hidden jewel" or a "tourist hotspot"? I feel like it can't be both.
Why do you feel like it can't be both?
Hotspot compared to other eastern european cities, hidden jewel compared to western europe (Rome, London, Madrid, Paris etc.)
DanThePropMan It's a hidden jewel with a lot of tourists?? Hidden jewel is obviously used metaphorically, so I wouldn't argue that it's supposed to be hidden.
What's a hidden jewel then?
Budapest is not a hidden jewel. It is a city with former communist living and a place waiting to rip off unknowing tourists particularly Americans. We used the public transit system and after reading in advance how to use the system and how they targeted Americans for "cash fines" we were detained by the transit workers and threatened with the police unless we paid the "cash fine" which would quadruple if the police arrives. I
Brenda Desjardins Maybe the city government and the people aren't the best. However, we must all agree that the culture and architecture, along with the geography of Budapest are just as stunning as the next city.
God I love these videos bit they always seem to cut off just as they start to get going. You can tell that there is so much more information to these stories, I wish they would wait a couple more months and gather enough footage for a 5 to 10 minute long video. Still appreciate the awesome guests and locations; I suppose that's what's making me crave more content in each video you release... Keep it up, just consider longer videos.😉
I live in Budapest and I didn't know about that...
6lépés im sure you have failed in geography class in school 🐴
én is xD
Really? How about the Budafok's cave system? Do you know about that? It is very long goes all around Buda in underground.
@@monster8169 all schools in Hungary suck ass, they probably never mentioned it (I never knew about it until now)
In Hungary they learn about everything, but they never no the main things.
Wow you get all these natural hotprings IN THE CITY? Amazing, i'm adding Budapest to my European wish list. London, Paris are soo basic
I'm so glad I learned about this one. Didn't know Budapest is such a beauty!!
this is awesome! never knew that Hungary is blessed with this underground water.
still, wondering whether anyone can dive through these underground channels or you need a special permission from the Hungarian authority to do so?

I really dislike how these "big" stories are always so crudely short! What a wonder!
As much as it pains me to admit it,Budapest is beautiful.Greetings from your eastern neighbour.
Interesting to think about how much we have yet to explore, especially places right under our feet.
We make films about Hungary too! :)

A burning question: do divers piss in the underwater caves that supply the baths at the surface and contain an endemic and fragile ecosystem?
Is it dangerous down there? I mean, so many caves, could you get lost a run out of oxygen?
every night i ask The Lord in great wonder, why theese vids have no mill view?
why would you put 350 buses into that cave? why cant you just use meters for telling how big it is? Also please use Celsius. No normal culture uses fahrenheit anymore today.
mehr schwein only 323 million americans use Fahrenheit that's not a lot anyway
They needed to let the viewers how big the cave is, so they used buses as an analogy
I'm a really patient person but I'm slowly getting sick of these fahrenheits, gallons, inches, feet and so on. They have no right to exist anymore.
Charlotte Musto its a lot harder to convert the °f to °c and back again (subtract 32 multiply by 5 then divide by 9) then there's the ft to cm and the whole conversion of the different systems that you need to remember when ONLY North America uses it. Its just such a nuisance and so confusing to do international stuff with.

I am an American born and raised and I HATE how we measure things here. Fortunately for use Im sure once either China invades or the new world order takes hold we can finally start using the metric system.
Buda pissed and hungry
To whomever accused me of lying and not stamping my travel pass you are absolutely wrong. We were attending a prestigious international conference and were warned by the hosts that taxi’s and restaurants would try to rip us off. Never to take a taxi off the street. Always have hotel or restaurant call a taxi.We are well experienced travelers. I know how to stamp a metro pass. I would never visit Buda”pest” or recommend it to any of my friends. The people we met were not transitioning well as self- governed.
I would love to visit there before I die😮
