If you try to imagine the world two centuries ago, when all men of power were like Putin, seeking for enemies to fight against, for another ridiculous piece of land to possess...such compositions were made in purpose like saying, stay home, make love not war, stay home and have sons instead of sending them on the battle field to die murdering other young men the other side for a ridiculous dispute...what is all behind such compositions friends. Let them become music soundtracks, trying to imagine a Purcell's vision of life, the best creative projects to work on during the Summer season, go for it champs, let it freedom of expression become our golden asset, let such music inspire you guys
Agreed. Fantastic performance ... with the exception of the principal 2nd violinist whose bowing technique is quite bizarre! Nothing whatsoever to do with historically informed playing. Just as well the oboes are a good distance away otherwise she'd be sawing them in half!
First-class playing and singing. An excellent performance of Purcell's greatest Ode.
Wonderful performance. Can't beat the English Baroque. Fascinating to see/hear original instruments.
