- Henry Purcell's music for the Funeral of Queen Mary was written for the March 1695 funeral of Queen Mary II, and sets a text taken from the Book of Common Prayer, the standard service book of the Church of England. Scored for SATB chorus, four trumpets and basso continuo, it employs chromaticism to a degree that was unusual in English music of the time, and shows Purcell at his simplest and most moving, almost note-against-note without contrapuntal elaboration, unfolding with dignity and pathos.

The depth of solemnity and sorrow of this performance is unrivaled, and immeasurable
The dignity, solemnity and sorrow through this is just incredible. It's always the same emotion each time I listen to it. I feel sad but it feels good.
well done my brothers
And what about your sisters?
motherfucka what are you talking about@@thegame6141
@@thegame6141 you didn't get the reference, but never mind
these golden trombones are real horrorshow, my brother, viddy well!
@@thegame6141calm down, terf.
Well well well.
Welly welly well
It's incredible how Purcell uses the timpani in this music.
I think this was used in the procession to Westminster Abbey.
not sure the composer used timpani per se lol
look to moi like the bone gots valves lol
I think Timpani is actually scored "Ad Libitum"
Хорошо! An essential tune for palling around with the друзья.
you mean droogs? ))
@@vsemprivet Did you expect Wendy Carlos???

Well, there I am. Conker, the king. King of all the land. Who've thought that? "But how did I come to this?", I hear you say. "And who are those strange fellows that surround my throne?", I hear you also say. Well, it's a long story. Come closer, and I'll tell you. It all started.... yesterday. And what a day that was. It's what I call a Bad Fur Day.
Let it be for Queen Elizabeth the second this time🙏💔
Quite, quite good! Enjoyed listening to this performance!
Influido por los acontecimientos, estoy escuchando distintas versiones de esta magnífica obra de Purcell, y esta es la que más me ha emocionado.
very solemn and moving
Had the pleasure to listen to this absolutely good performance.
There was me, That is Alex, and our three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, And Dim.
And we sat there, at the korova milkbar, wondering out rasoodocks what to do with the evening. The korova milkbar sold milk plus, milk velocet, milk synthesmic, or drencrum, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and get you ready for a little bit of the old- ultra-violence
? Why would funeral music make you want to be violent. ...grow up you are online and people all over the world are reading this. There is enough trouble in the world without you adding to it. Be careful
@@mavisemberson8737He or she thinks they are being clever. Quoting from Clockwork Orange, the tawdry film used this music. Poor Purcell.
Truly magnificent.
Excellent performance. Thank you!
Absolutely Beautiful and moving! It tells a story. Thank you for posting!
Bravo!

Very lovely. Thanks.
This is fine music indeed! Bravo my good sir

Puro recogimiento y emoción. Cuidada y exquisita versión de este tesoro de Purcell. Felicitaciones.

Awesome!
This sharpens me for a bit of the old... *complete the sentence*.
" This Would Sharpen You Up And Make You Ready For A Bit Of The Old Ultra-Violence."
Song goes very hard
The title should be Queen Mary II. Just saying.
It's late opening at the Korova Milk Bar tonight.
Synthemesc, Vellocet, or Drencrom. Which should I have?
It's strange people applauding the music, I understand why they do it, but it's funeral music. Like applauding before and after the Matthäus Passion, you just don't.
They're applauding the work. Appreciation for beautiful art.
@@yumorules i know they do, and I fully understand, it just feels strange to do when you know the setting of the music and the solemn way it was intended.
@@degroot9914 who cares, its art, do you feel bad when you watching the inglurius basterds or any movie except comedies for examble?
The applauding here just means greeting to the conductor as well as her making a bow to the audience means greeting too.
It is a concert !
I listened to this while drinking at the old Milk bar making my paradox of what to do in the evening.
Love this. No need for interpretation.
Anyone else has the Clockwork Orange voice over in mind when they hear this tune? I cannot help it.
Really I have just heard a marvellous page: bravi, bravi, bravissimi!!! Furthermore I would avail myself of the occasion in order to express my wholehearted thanks to CZcams: I am allowed by them to obtain at least some knowledge of pages written by composers [in this instance Henry Purcell] of whom in the best of instances I would know just the name but no more... And similar considerations have to be extended also to the actual performers: without CZcams I would never have gained any acquaintance of Singapore Symphony [bravi!! bravi!! bravissimi!!!] nor of Ms. Sofi Jeannin, their [charismatic] female director.
With my best wishes!!

0:37 “There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, and Dim, Dim being really dim, and we sat in the Korova Milkbar making up rassoodocks what to do with the evening, a flip dark chill winter bastard though dry. The Korova Milkbar was a milk-plus mesto, and you may, O my brothers, have forgotten what these mestos were like, things changing so skorry these days, and everybody very quick to forget, newspapers not being read much neither.”

great, but i hate when applause is included, please just incrlude the actual audio, no one wants to listen to applause, it's very interrupting
Real horrowshow

Sounds horrible with modern instruments.
