    My story pt. 2 and try not to laugh: ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS PUT A LOUSY tall boy SEAT ON my 2019 R/T Limited. That was it, what could be so hard? I'm a big guy and all that factory seat wanted to do was rupture me. The seat was 800 dollars and it was going ON. I've been a gearhead for over 45 years and do you think I could even do that? Not without the black hole of death I couldn't. And why is that hole even there? What maniac at Cam Am thought this would be a good idea? And on top of it? "Lets also make the seat almost impossible to take off." After all that effort since last I wrote, I still couldn't get the back assembly off as I didn't see the lower mounts underneath the bags. My son took vacation from Florida just to help me on this (he loves the Spider) and it was time to tackle it. She's been half apart all winter. So I showed him and I re-watched this video. This time I spotted the lower saddlebag mounts in your video and daylight set in. And sure enough, that was the problem. And you have to be crazy for hefting that thing off yourself. We together had to huff and puff to carry it and we're very big men. You're a man? LOL Yes, a very foolish man and you almost talked my son into being a foolish man. But I was there already and he was glad he didn't try. LOL My son works for Mercedes and ooh'd and ahh'd over the Spider with all her clothes off. It uses top grade Bosch electronics and is built like a brick house. And he insisted he install the seat himself this time because Dad screwed it up; which of course, caused all this in the first place and was all my fault. After he was proudly done, the seat pulled right off the bike. But this time, we did have the black hole plugged up when the bushings fell out. You should have seen his face, I almost peed my pants I laughed so hard. And he had to admit, he would have never noticed the black hole of death either. You make it look so easy, it's obvious you've been burned before. Yes?
    We finally got her done and it took almost 6 hours for the two of us to do it. TO CHANGE A LOUSY SEAT! And that's not counting the four I'd already put into it. Today I aired up the tires, took her off the lift, and had her out for the first time since last year. She started right up like she was waiting for me. This is the lift I use and it's a really good one: us.on-bike.com/motorcycle-lifts/canam-spyder-trike-lift Yeah, she's mine and I own her alright. And I had multiple options I wanted to install while it was apart, and took one look at her naked and said the hell with it. I'll just keep it the way it is. It's not worth it. I have worked on everything from muscle cars, to motorcycles, to military 2 1/2 ton trucks, to farm tractors, to semi's and everything in between. This thing is my worse nightmare. The fact is, she owns me, not the other way around. Oh, the new seat has saved my balls, so it was well worth it.
    I just wanted to thank you again. I couldn't have done it without you. What a nightmare it had to be to film all this and your camera work and explanations are spot on. Does your wife do your camera work?
    Keep up the good work! Danny J.

      Ok, I tried not to laugh, I failed 😂. I wasn’t laughing at you, I was laughing with you. This has to be one of the best comments on my page.
      First: I did drop a nut for the seat when I was installing my comfort seat, and a wrench down the black hole. I got lucky and was able to fish them out with a flexible 🧲.
      Second: I probably should not have lifted off the rear cargo assembly by myself. I did feel a tweak in my back but in the moment, the danger of doing it by myself won out over risking letting my wife be able to say I couldn’t have done it without her.
      Third: I am glad the video helped. I try to be thorough in my videos because I have used CZcams for years and appreciate the ones that show every step, (good/bad/or ugly).
      Fourth: I do all the video taping and editing. I can’t even get her to watch my videos let alone do a little editing or recording for me. 😄
      Thanks for watching and the kind words. Ride safe!

    Another great video. I am addicted to your videos. I enjoy doing my own maintenance, if I can. I owned a Honda Silverwing 600 with Trike Kit before purchasing my Spyder. I enjoyed tinkering with it as well thanks to all the great youtube videos. The Silverwing had its share of tupperware, not as much as the Spyder, but enough to pre-prepare me for tackling the Spyder ...LOL. You all are a god send for documenting your repairs and fixes for us who are wanting to learn. Thanks once again.

    Excellent, excellent instructional video... Easy 10/10 .... I just did this on a friend's Spyder and after watching your video, I doubt it took 10 minutes to get the back off and the compressor out! I've had just about every panel off a spyder except the rear trunk assembly, now I'm sure I'll have them off a lot more to do wiring mods on them... This is going to save me many hours of hassle over the next while! Many many thanks for taking the time to show in excellent detail your procedure!

    Chris as I have said before I have a twin to your R/T , is there a dump valve or relief valve or maybe it’s the check valve that expels air ? Recently when riding 2 and when we come to a light the bike makes a burping/ buzzing noise. It seems to be coming from mid bike. It doesn’t do it as much or not at all with 1 rider. If you have any thoughts about this and some things I could look at, it would be much appreciated. I just did the brake fluid change and bleed with speed bleeders, great video on that job. Where have speed bleeders been all my life? Thanks Bill Pettit

    Afternoon. Question for you. As luck would have it, my ACS compressor finally went south. I thought it was odd I had not heard it in awhile now. And my ride was getting a bit rougher on the old bottom. The fuse is still good, I can still see the inflate BAR when I press the "hard / soft" rocker button. Thankfully the air bag is still good, just have to manually inflate every ride now. I have the 2014 RTL as well, was trying to see the part number on the replacement compressor you have, and also what check valve did you use. I like how you explained your riding dilemma, regarding getting on and off and having to put in air after every dismount. I thought I was going crazy at first, now it all makes prefect sense with the air release valve. Great video! AGAIN!

    Did you say that the 20 amp fuse started blowing after you added an aftermarket compressor? I keep blowing the 20 amp that runs the heated grips, horn, and fog lights after I installed a non BRP compressor.

    • @ItsYoursOWNIT
      @ItsYoursOWNIT  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, we got back from our big trip last year when the original pump went bad because of the leaky check valve. I put in the 97c Viair and turned around the next week and took my youngest daughter who had just graduated college to Yellowstone. The fuse blew on the way there. No pump, horn or fog lights. I put in a new one and it blew again so I just left it because I knew the aftermarket pump was obviously pulling more amps than the OEM. When I got back home, I just disabled the system by unplugging the pump and Shed solenoid and plugging the air line from the pump and put a new fuse in it so I had the horn etc. I ran it this way the rest of the season and just manually adjusted the air pressure in the air shock accordingly. I didn't really want to spend the money on a new BRP pump, but decided it was what I needed to do. It would be possible to run an aftermarket pump by using an add in relay that has the power supplied from the battery and using the existing wiring harness for the pump to simply control the relay. This way the circuit would not be overloaded by the pump.

    Wow!!! Definitely subscribed. Awesome video. So glad I searched for this issue. It cost about $1,600 to have my unit replaced in 2018 and here it is again not holding air. Of course I was quoted $1,600 again, and $800 if it's not the air bag. By air bag, do they mean the compressor? Also, how do I check it all to see what actually needs replacing? Or should I do a full replacement of the whole thing?

    I have the same year & model Spyder same air suspension issue. It is bypassed to manually fill it due to cost of repair. Dealer deactivated the switch. He also said the common cause of failure is dirt due to its location to the rear tire area and that it constantly adjusts. I do want to get it fixed but don’t want the same issue in a few years I only have 22000 on the bike. Any thoughts?

    • @ItsYoursOWNIT
      @ItsYoursOWNIT  Před 4 lety

      I don’t know for sure how he disabled your switch, but I am guessing he just chose “No ACS” in buds, which would essentially make it like an RTS. That way the bike would not try working the pump or shedding air out of the air bag depending on the ride position sensor. My problem with leaving mine disabled was that I was having to adjust the air bag every time I had a passenger, which just annoyed me. If I left it aired up to where it needed to be when my wife was with me it would ride like a tank when I was by myself. This is why I decided to just fix it. I ordered extra check valves so when I notice the pump running more than it should, I will just change it out. Btw, I ordered my pump from eBay. Part number 706001349. www.ebay.com/itm/184310009907

      geep, It is an actual 2013 BRP Roadster Shop Manual. 2013 was the big change from the earlier RT body but they still ran the 998 engine. So for 2014 you have to find the 2013 manual as well as the 2014 shop manual supplement to cover the new changes. I just kept looking and eventually found them both on EBay. I've commented on other videos. Sorry to keep commenting but your videos are awesome. I'm buying the same bike soon. Can you please tell me the proper way to test to make sure this system is working so I can try before I buy please? I see you started it and put it in first gear and then you said it was working. I couldn't see any indication that it was working on the display, and I didn't see you adjust the switch at that time, so I'm wondering how best to test it to make sure it works since I have no idea what to expect having never owned a Spyder. Nothing like it on any bike I've owned to date. :) THANK YOU! :)

    • @ItsYoursOWNIT
      @ItsYoursOWNIT  Před 3 lety

      Hi Pat, the fastest way to tell if the ACS system is working is to lift the seat and let the air out of the airbag via the schrader valve (basically a valve stem that is under the seat) before you start it. Then get on and start it and when you put it in gear you will probably hear and definitely feel the pump raise the rear of the bike. The way to tell if you have a leak in the system is to park it and measure the distance between the ground and the bottom of the rear fender, let it sit overnight and measure again. Mine failing was preventable had I realized that it was just the check valve at the pump not holding pressure.

    • @ItsYoursOWNIT
      @ItsYoursOWNIT  Před 3 lety

      The system automatically controls the ride height of the rear because it has a ride height sensor. The switch is for adjusting the ride height up or down a little. I always just leave it in the centered position.
