  • Week two down on the allotment and I’m building my first raised vegetable bed.
🌼This video was filmed on the 23rd of June.
    🌺The plot is around 14 x 8 meters
🌻I've been gardening for about 4 years from my small garden and looking forward to this much larger challenge

Brought a fork, 37 years later still have it, it has never been in the shed, my favourite tape measure and rake is my booted foot.

That must be a well built fork. I think a foot is more trustworthy that a tape measure 😂🌱

I think it could be a calla lily, or an Cana lily. and definitely put cardboard down.

Yes , l live in Australia too, wish we had allotments here, any vacant land here gets tiny boxes called houses built on them !!

That’s a shame allotments are so good for people’s welfare they should be prioritised. 🌱

When I struggle with hard soil I drop a hosepipe on the area - moving mud is so much easier.

Hey Will. Welcome to allotmenteering. I think you could borrow a strimmer and get some of that weed growth down so seeds don’t set and produce more weeds n future x also I would invest I a pair of sturdy boots and Garden fork as digging is easier with a fork and in boots.

Thank you for the advice, agree I need to get the weeds down before they take over if it’s not too late 🙂 and a fork to break up the soil. 🌱

    Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
Good work so far. A pick would be useful & a hat.😊

The raised bed looks good. Maybe use a garden fork to turn the soil over. Please wear a hat I always wear a hat in the garden being in Sydney Australia

Thank you, agree I need a fork to turn the soil. We don’t get much sun in the uk but I will be sure to wear a hat when it comes out 🙂🧢🌱

The only reason we use weed barrier under our beds is because of the voles and moles we have. But it limits the depth of the plant roots and root crops.

Definitely cover with cardboard. Will save you a lot of work later in keeping down weeds.

To me, it looks like it might be a canna.

    • @growwithwill7841
      @growwithwill7841  Před měsícem

It could be, I need to do some more research and see if it flowers. Thank you for the suggestion.

@@growwithwill7841 canna lily does flower and different varieties can get as tall as you. Threy self propagate and once established tend to take over so thin them regularly by digging up.

good luck witgh the new plot Will, my best guess for the mystery large leaf plant is some type of Hosta, if it is, all parts are edible, eaten a lot in Asia, expecially the new shoots

Hosta looks like a good match, thank you for the advice I will give it a try or move them to a better position 🙂
