Czech Republic at least used to be a powerhouse. The downfall of our hockey in the last 10-15 years is really concerning, but I hope some good times are coming back. Maybe finally after this WJC our country has done something right in terms of development. It sucks being called, "competitive" considering our achievements and total dominance in the early 2000's.

I was 10-11 years old and cried like a bitch when Finland lost twice in a row in extra time. Czech Republic was ahead of Finland in hockey at the time. Funny how our age category d-men had sucked for nigh two decades, and all of a sudden we've got two stand-outs at the same time, plus most of the others are still solid, like Špaček. We actually have a legit defence on our junior team. Last time I was able to say that, I couldn't grow a beard yet. I can't believe, that we've played three matches, two of which was against top tier opposition, yet we average 1.66 GAA. Ten years ago, it would have been a GAA of 5+ in the same situation. Man, things really seem to be different this time around.
I'm not even mad that we lost, especially when we played such a great game of hockey. Even tho it was already mentioned here many times, I still want to point out how different this Czech gen (2k3,2k4,2k5) is in comparison to previous years - their playstyle resembles modern hockey much more, their passes are more effective and well-timed, they shoot ton of shots and not just 20 per game, overall our team looks more competitive than during the previous 7-8 seasons. Props to Sweden for playing A-level hockey as usual, their game (almost) never disappoints.
Most of the match with the Swedes looked like a Czech power play, the Swedes had problems getting out of their third at all (the Czech match with Canada was much more balanced). Czech dominance was in all activities. But they have a great goalkeeper (the best in the tournament) and that counts.
Agree. Sweden had a hard time getting a good passing game going. Far too much soloing and long pucks into the corners. The Czechs had better games overall. Unfortunately, I think the Tre Kronor will be piece of cake by Canada.
I actually disagree with the defense part. I think this years cohort of players is decent in terms of offense but the defense is rather weak. Lucky to have a tremendous goalie to make up for it. I still cheer for them with all my heart though.
Congrats to Sweden, they found a way to victory against the run of the play. Shots on goal dominance is useless, all that matters is goals, and Sweden scored one more of those. Good luck against Canada. The Swedish goalie is going to be the tournament MVP. Dude's literally worth his weight in gold.

This might sound dicky, but I agree. I felt like the Czech team was better for like 75% of the match if not more. First period should have had goals scored against Sweden. The frist period was utter domination..And then the Czechs gifted the tying goal and it flipped for a while..But hey, what are chances good for if you cant score.
As a Swede i will mainly focus on our team, and I'm not that impressed to be honest. Way way to many lost pucks and the PP is absolutely horrendous (Can barely get past the blue line). Lindbom saved us during this game also.

It is too much to explain really but one example is in the first period the goalie twice tried backing into the swede while he was going by ''without the puck''' luckily no hit tho. And one more is after the first goal they pushed a swede. Because of this reasons i must say that Sweden played the better hockey today and that is not all. Czechia played real ugly in general they only went after the players and not as much after the puck and in hockey ur supossed to score and not just hurting everyone. If they played nicer then yes they were the better team...

@@chonabee6810 Neither of the teams played what I would describe as beautiful hockey. Both of those teams are capable of it, but a battle over the pool top spot is not the time to gamble. I disagree about the imperative, that hockey must be played beautifully. That's what the Slovaks used to do: it was fun to watch, but it didn't win them many games. I'm all on the utilitarian side of things. Those teams are in it to win it, not to artistically impress. Canadians tried to play pretty against us, and got absolutely pulverized by a team, that dressed up to win, not to showboat. The Swedish coaching staff were clearly watching and taking notes, and good on them. It was a good old battle between two excellent, tactically mature teams. The Czechs were slightly better stats-wise, but the Swedes have a much better goalie, and seized the opportunity when it presented itself. That's all that matters, and anything else is all the water under the bridge. Oh, and believe me: all the NHL scouts and development staff watching the tournament put much more stock in U20 prospects being able to execute a tactical plan and avoid mistakes, than in flashy deking, empty net passing, and Michigans. The former wins Stanley Cups, the latter wins player fanclubs and boosts regular season individual stats. Guess which one do the NHL suits care more about. Hardly one of Sweden's better efforts to be honest. The game against Canada is now almost irrelevant to some point for Sweden since they will be facing either Slovakia or Switzerland in the QF? Canada must now win against Sweden presumably to get an "easy" quarterfinal and avoid the US or Finland.
@Makossi Sweden has nothing to play for really. They should probably go with back-up goalie and play those individuals that have been on the bench mostly.

The way the goalie tried backing into the swedes for going by even without the puck in the first period and after the second goal how he pushed the swede. Not only that but they in general didn't play well hockey. And yes goals is all the matters but hockey is best when it is played nice.

@@chonabee6810 Neither of the teams played what I would describe as beautiful hockey. Both of those teams are capable of it, but a battle over the pool top spot is not the time to gamble.
I disagree about the imperative, that hockey must be played beautifully. That's what the Slovaks used to do: it was fun to watch, but it didn't win them many games. I'm all on the utilitarian side of things. Those teams are in it to win it, not to artistically impress. Canadians tried to play pretty against us, and got absolutely pulverized by a team, that dressed up to win, not to showboat. The Swedish coaching staff were clearly watching and taking notes, and good on them.
It was a good old battle between two excellent, tactically mature teams. The Czechs were slightly better stats-wise, but the Swedes have a much better goalie, and seized the opportunity when it presented itself. That's all that matters, and anything else is all the water under the bridge.
Oh, and believe me: all the NHL scouts and development staff watching the tournament put much more stock in U20 prospects being able to execute a tactical plan and avoid mistakes, than in flashy deking, empty net passing, and Michigans. The former wins Stanley Cups, the latter wins player fanclubs and boosts regular season individual stats. Guess which one do the NHL suits care more about.
