In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

The whole "present" bit genuinely upsetting Alex is amazing.
The whole Alex pretending to be upset about the present bit bit was amazing.
@@roarmalfyes, he was definitely pretending. His personality is too good natured to be upset by something that trivial.
He was not "genuinely" upset, its his character
i thought that was the point of it this whole time, what would greg like to take home as a gift
@@diddo9338 Sometimes it is, but usually he's just judging which one fits the category the best (or he likes the best). The winner of the episode takes home all the prizes.
“Well I fucking have been tonight” Steve Pemberton is a national treasure.
I declare him a global treasure.
I was taking a hit of my vape right as he said that, I nearly died laughing/coughing, that line was gold.
But not for long
“I was on the college dart team” I thought that was just an excuse to drink beer.. legit talent there.
He is a dry alcoholic so... not too far off the truth.
@@Brahlam I didn't know what a dry alcoholic was, and now I'm sad for John
@@eduardomadruga1920 Eh, I don't think you need to feel sad for him, he's talked about it openly and he seems to be doing much better now.
Nish Kumar was, of course, 'captain of his school's kissing team.'
I really enjoy that Joanne and Sophie upset Little Alex Horne by calling their prizes "presents."
Oh, the agonized expression on his face every time the word "present" was used. Hilarious.
Joanne keeps calling them "gifts" on the Taskmaster podcast. I'm not sure if she's that committed to the bit or she genuinely still fails to grasp the format lol
@@notmyrealname3370So neither of these girls have taken their prizes but they haven't been getting theirs back. Makes sense they'd assume they're gifts.
And when Steve did it at the end, you can tell he did it on purpose, for comedic effect. And it still made Alex cringe.
@@thestocksource8393 This was the most directly and immediately aggravated I've ever seen him
Steve's Prize Task has got to be one of the best of all time. So clever
He makes them into a task’s task. Genius!
Greg's gifts.....we can make this a thing 😂
It takes even more value when you realize it's a reference to an episode of Steve's show Inside No. 9
@@iluvdissheet *Lord* Greg's gifts, please.
Everything that Steve has done for prize tasks was great - he really put effort into these
Nick: Because I am quite small, I don't think that's an advantage?
Sophie: I don't think that's ever been an advantage.
Live Task of same Episode:
Do you mean live task?
@@eyachouaieb2102 Yes, oops!
Except it didn't turn out to be an advantage. Sophie was right, somehow.
@@roguishpaladin it WAS an advantage and they would've won if Steve didn't step over the line
@@eyachouaieb2102 Nevertheless, it was not an advantage because Steve did step over the line.
I really want Nick to win an episode.
And I think he should've won the thumb war segment
I love him so much it pains me to watch him keep losing.
Me too, but hes already won everyones hearts, you can tell hes genuinely nice and tries to be supportive of people while losing and being ribbed. Good sport about it all and I am for the wholesomeness.
Same here, I think thumb war should have been 5 points
@@TakenTook I call it the "Nish-conundrum". When Greg decides a contestant is bad and the audience mostly accepts that it's funnier if said person is always bad, he will undervalue them to a degree that makes it impossible to win.
As an American, every series starts with "I maybe know about one or two of these people" and half way through becomes "I want these people as family". I just start to imagine them as aunts, uncles, cousins, and we have shenanigans and they understand me better than my parents ever did. These are the people who both land me in jail/hospital and also come get me out. We go for waffles and never speak of it again.
Was there a joke that you enjoyed. Or nobody else is willing to be a part of your family
I pretty much fall in love with each of the woman on the show. It's easily one of my favorite shows.
I agree with this. Except series 15 was terrible. Lol
One day we will get Paul F as a contestant
@@dontpanic716Paul F as the American taskmaster. Can you see it???
Just put it together that the Queen clock that Sara Pascoe brought in for series 3 was John Robins’. They were dating at the time.
That's where I have seen him before! Mock the week with Sara! Thank you 😊
😮
That's some premium Taskmaster lore you got. much obliged.
@@samsprague3158 if you want some more, I present to you: James Acaster’s prize task in S7E9 which was a drawing by Sam Campbell
Was that the cause of their break up? 😅😂
-"Someone's been kicked out of teh Queen Fan Club."
-"I'm actually in the Queen Fan Club"
John is an absolute treasure.
Aha! So he's the boyfriend Sarah pascoe stole the queen clock from for her prize task!!!!
I love how the normally unflappable Alex gets so perturbed by the suggestion that the prize task items are "presents." I'm sure Greg wouldn't have said anything if Alex hadn't brought it up. He's very protective of the format of his show, and it's adorable.
it's all he has
"Greg's Gifts" 😂
Seeing Alex in a bird costume, all I could think about was “Are you hungry baby bird?” 😝😝😝
Im still a bit botherd by that task....
But well done 😁
great callback lol
🤣🤣🤣
The image/footage... ingrained in our brain and eyes..
😂
John very bold with the "I was CAPTAIN of the darts team..."
Not often Greg admits he was impressed
Steve's joy when he realizes that Sophie is going to win the task for her portrait of him is so lovely
Seeing Nick in a MOUNTAIN of inner tubes just shuffling towards Joanne is amazing
greg: [Nick's] not that small
also greg in the same episode: Nick's a 3 ring man
nick was ok with the gag. That makes all the difference.
His adoration for him is just so precious
39:28 small details like this - how they switched their regular pictures for the task ones - are what make this show the masterpiece that it is!
I've watched this episode twice already and hadn't noticed that. God, I love this show.
"Behind every head is a skull." That's poetic! 😂😂
Seeing how annoyed Alex is getting by the prizes being called presents, I hope they all continue calling them presents from here on out. 😂😂😂
“Greg’s gifts” 😂
"Are the age jokes getting tiresome yet, Steve?"
"To be honest they are getting a bit old, Greg,"
I like the way Steve's mind works, you can tell he's a smart guy
Writing a message into a crossword is an amazingly intellectual move.
“Once I saw a fish alive” might be the best call back of the entire show’s run
and no one is talking about it!
i've seen this entire show and some series several times, but i have no idea. what's it a call back to?
@@rogerroger9952A nursery song that was sung by a guy who punched a fish. It was truly brilliant! I wish I knew the season.
@@freshbloominclothing oh! Doc was his name but I don't recall the season, either
Series 2, Episode 2 at 22:15
Nick is such a joy.
i love how greg always breaks so delightfully. something funny becomes 10x funnier when you see how tickled greg is by it
I just realized that John is the boyfriend Sara Pascoe was talking about is season 3. With the Freddie Mercury clock 😂😂
"THEY ARE NOT PRESENTS" is the most emotion I've ever seen little Alex Horne expressed in the entire 17 series of this show.
The sheer madness on Alex's face when Steve calls the prizes "presents" brings me unsurmountable happiness.
John’s a genius for getting Greg into memes, not a decade too soon.
I love sweet contestants like Charlotte Ritchie and Nick Mohammad, but I inevitably spend the entire series longing for them to win an episode!
every series I want every contestant to win at least one episode!
The only counter to that was David Beddiel, everyone wished him not too. hehe
I love how they used the created portraits in the scoring.
"Shots. Speed. Custard...suck it off!" I am so getting that T-shirt!!!🤣🤣
The shock on John's face when he first saw Sophie flipping the bottle. He looks at Alex in disbelief.
Ever so slightly disappointed that of all the 'best things to get into' someone didn't make the joke of acquiring a pair of Greg's trousers.
i want a contestant to steal greg's pants at least once every series
"Nick's a three ring man!" actually has a correspondence to an german saying: "Dreikäsehoch", meaning "Three cheese wheels high!" . It's normally referring to a child.
Similar saying in France, with apples.
05:54 Alex looking at us like ''Can you believe this shit??''
that meme part made me feel so youthful and full of life
I've never liked the team tasks much, but when the final task is a team one, there is always one team with a significant advantage. Over the line or not, the fact that Steve threw faster than TWO people working together deserved credit
I was most excited for Nick this season, and I love him, but I've fallen in love with Sophie.
I have never seen her before in my life but I adore Sophie. I love that she is just having a good time, she knows she's not going to win, she's shit at the tasks but is just having a blast. When Greg gave her the one point she was all "yep, that's fair" and I fell in love with her more. I tend to prefer the ones that are just having a good time to the ones trying to win, and this group actually all seem to be leaning more towards just having fun. I am shocked that this is probably going to be one of my higher ranked series considering I didn't know any of them going in.
@@houddythequeen john & Steve both try very hard to win. Steve puts in a lot of work in the prize tasks and john tries his best to thing outside the box. He is also likely a big fan of this show.
@@berndarndt9924 I guess I meant none of them are aggressively competitive. I'm thinking along the Iain Sterling/Lou Sanders level of competitive which wasn't fun for me to watch. I find John and Steve fun to watch because they seem more like me, if they win YAY! but if they don't they will be fine.
@@houddythequeen Same! This is the first I've seen of her but I'm in love. Her off-tangent stories make me lol
I feel really bad for Nick. He is such as sweetheart.
I love him. Such a positive and kind man.
The "not that way" moment might be one of the funniest things I've ever seen. XDDD
And then they both change directions 😂
"Respectful in the sack" belongs on a dating profile.
her whole description of John was HILARIOUS
What I love about this show is that while its making fun of everyone at the same time everyone really considerate. It's super wholesome and I love it.
That's Brits for you... You can't have 70m people in that small a space, and them not use manners. Otherwise there would be no one left. So they are trained to cut deep w sarcasm, but in a nice way, their control of the language plays a part. It is an amazing gift.
I love how even in last weeks Taskmaster Podcast (hosted by Series 9 Champion & Taskmaster Super Fan Ed Gamble) Joanne kept referring to the “Prize Task” as “Greg’s Gifts”
Motion to change the “Prize Task” to “Greg’s Presents Task” or “Gifts for Greg”, especially to annoy Alex
Alex absolutely losing his shit over the Prizes being called presents was bloody hilarious
John throwing darts in a vest did something.
Boy howdy, did it ever! Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge.
Joanne is playing the aloof/slightly lunatic role this series, but as Nick points out at the end she is actually doing really well! Probably my favourite out of this bunch, the pillow comment was delightfully unhinged!
I love the slightly scared look on Alex's face when he's alone in the room with her.
Joanne is definitely the standout for me this series.
I also loved the 'Thumb war? Then we're going to need tequila!' Just came out of nowhere
I’d like her to win, but I think John has too much of a lead
Seeing her genuine delight in winning this one was a joy
Steve and Nick are such a treat. Steve has put on a genuinely good production in almost episode so far. Nick is just a delight. Love the whole cast but Steve, especially has so many memorable moments
It's still a mindfuk for me that Sophie is actually the youngest of these contestants at 36.
She has the demeanor of an older auntie
John's comment about the Queen fan club reminded me of the most flamboyant clock Sara Pascoe brought in as a present in series 3. Then I remembered they dated so that was almost certainly John's clock!
John is on track to break Dara’s record, we’re 60% of the way through the season and at 113 points, he could go over 184(the previous record) if he even just keeps this pace up.
I have fallen in love with John Robins.
John is just the millenial experience in human form. The memes 😍
Joanne could play a grown up Erin in ‘Derry Girls’. I thought they were sisters!
When she's doing the tasks and her hair is pulled back, she's 100% Saoirse. It's uncanny
John’s was the best portrait!
Yes! I couldn't figure out why it wasn't higher than Sophie's.
Every contestant (and Alex) was 100% on fire tonight. Great tasks, great callbacks, my favorite episode of this season so far.
Steve's thumb war was the best thing I've seen in a while
Steve is about the best thing I'v seen in awhile, amazing imagination!
Getting the sense that Greg is deliberately handicapping John at this point, the producers can’t have one contestant running away with it…
I feel that way too for sure.
Dara got a full sweep episode in his series. Sometimes the stats are just that good. Sometimes Greg is just messing around
Since the season is still going we don't know yet if he'll be the winner but I wouldn't doubt it. Sarah Kendall and Mae Martin both very obviously got similar treatment as it was clear they were the runaway winners of their seasons. It becomes most obvious in prize tasks when Greg can be subjective. It's just the nature of reality tv frankly, you have to at least make it seem like the other contestants have a chance if it becomes obvious who the winner will probably be too early.
I love Nick, he's very sweet.
Him walking away in the tubeys was so amazing!
The way he asked for five points was just adorable. 😊
Loved the Alex banter in the beginning. One of his best yet! Who thinks of it? 100 people running 4m? 😂😂
And Greg gave him no reaction, so he ended it with referencing back to Greg’s intro. It rarely happens, but I do enjoy when it does.
Am finding myself increasingly attracted to John Robins as the season goes on.
What were the Steve/Alex thumb war costumes? My god!
Opposing thumbs….
@@annabellathorne8553 I got that. I’m concerned about the nylon stockings and tank top? I guess they just used what they had…on hand…
And why did Alex pull his over his face?
It is honestly perplexing that at almost 17 full seasons there is not one bad episode, not even one meh episode , each one is independently great. If at some point , Alex , you decide to take over the world or something bring a snack. [{(Edited for typos.) Should have been for content.}if you do take over though, or want to, I'll help.]
there are plenty meh episondes and even a few bad ones. (mostly because the contestans were unpleasant or didn't care/try)
I can’t help but love Nick. He’s such a sweetheart.
Thumb Wars might be one of my favorite tasks of all time. Every version was unique and each was SO perfectly stupid & absurd.
"Shots, Speed, Custard, Suck It Off!" Somebody make that t-shirt logo for red bubble!
This was a solid episode, probably the best of series 17.
My favorite episode of this season so far; I laughed throughout. The tasks were silly fun, there were lots of great quips, there was the theme of Steve's age, and Little Alex Horne's cringing during the gift task ... er, prize task. :) Lots of fun.
It was magnificent!
Steve's prize task is not only genius, it also pays homage to Inside No. 9. Genius!!! ❤
Please bring back the Buy The Taskmaster The Best Gift task, thank you
I left a comment about how Thumb Wars was one of the best tasks I’ve ever seen, but this entire EPISODE was one of the best.
If Steve and Nick hadn't been DQd in the live task (which would give them 5 and the others 0 because it says one team will win), the top 3 would have been so close: Joanne 100, Steve 103 and John 108. But sadly, them's the breaks.
42:52 Steve looks heartbroken 😢
True. Also, thing is *all* of them should have received 0 points as the team of 3 didn't finish the task.
@@ilunaker1032 Yeah, that's true. But if they hadn't stopped the game, the other team would have covered Joanne anyway. It wasn't a timed task, it was the first team to complete it. But the other team may also have DQd themselves. Who knows?
If I had a dollar for every time Nick was part of a cinematic masterpiece in which a wholesome quirky underdog completely unexpectedly smashed it at darts I would only have two dollars, but two dollars nonetheless.
Episode six and this group has absolutely hit their stride. They're getting warmer, disarming Greg regularly, and now rather than hating Alex they're teaming up with him to irritate Greg. This show is brilliant. Here's to a formula that just hasn't missed!
Usually I try to come up with a Queen song to match something John's done in the episode but lo and behold he beat me to it in the thumb war task. It was quite eerie, actually.....
It's a kind of magic
One dream, one task
One prize, one Alex
One thumb war at Thumbly
Mic drop! "I am the 1, the only 1, I am the God of Taskmaster come... Just gimme the Prize"! Glad I'm not the only complete Queen geek here.(PS. I used to be in a cast of people who acted out Highlander under the movie screen, like Rocky Horror, if that gives ya some idea where I'm coming from. Cheers mate!
@@m.6292 Good one! I've heard about Highlander being performed like that.
Friends will be friends!
i love that after joane said being small is never an advantage we got this live task :D
Really love the Greg's Gifts section, they should do it more often!
Steve's thumb war is the funniest thing of the season! 😆😆😆
Love the addition of the portraits just shown for the points board immediately afterwards. Such a well thought out show.
'One Two three four...Once I caught a fish alive' reminded me of Doc Brown's rap from Series 1!
Super fun live task! I was heartbroken at the very end😢😢😢😢
Alex genuinely upset about them bring in presents not prize tasks. He must be so detail orientated and so precise such a stickler for rules, but his kindness shows through every time he gets tickled. This episode, lots of laugh out loud, but my gosh how can anyone not adore Nick!
Sophie is just wonderful! The old man Steve such a good sport and John such a dart player and Joanne, shades of the naughty women before her! Great Job, Great creative tasks!!
I'm with Nick, I assumed this was a two horse race between Steve and John, but Joanna could run away with it
Joanne talks about John the same way I would: he’s a romantic and probably great in the sack
He is awfully neurotic in real life, so I don't know, he couldn't hold on to Sara Pascoe... The Queen clock she brought in as a prize task, and said her BF didn't know about it, that was him.
@@m.6292At one time he roomed with Jon Richardson and Russell Howard. In that scenario I'm pretty certain Jon was the neurotic one.
The comment Joanne made about Jon and the cushion made me laugh because I realised ''yeah he does seem like that kind of man'' lol
Crossing the line of Steve with the last task, gives me flashbacks to Joe and his potatoe throwing 😂
Did anyone else think John was going to impale himself on a metal post in the thumb war?
Where were health and safety?
Yes, I said it out loud 😂
Joanne's present was the first thing my mind went to but better
ITS NOT A PRESENT
Joanne's "thumb war" game was so unhinged lmfao
Love how the picnic portraits are used for the scoreboard right afterwards. What a lovely touch!
I’ve been on 17 Series journey with this show…this might have been an all-time, top 3 episode.
What are 2 others?..
@@ingetuinman8793 About 20 to 30…it’s mutable.
Sophie is mad. I love it.
I’ve just had the startling revelation that Queen super fan John Robins is the Freddy Mercury obsessed boyfriend whose clock Sara Pascoe brought in for the “most flamboyant clock prize task on the first episode of series 3! 🤯
They weren't able to edit out Nick's reflection on the plastic dome (26:15) as they had in previous episodes, but now I wonder if there will be any more deletions after this episode. This was a clever bit by TASKMASTER, and I hope they come up with other such creative bits with future contestants!
Greg's gift section is my favourite now hahaha. also how genuinely upset Alex gets about it. loved this episode!
Steve's only in his 50s???? I also thought he was older
This screen shot already has me audibling an 'oh my god' at those Mike Myers 'Cat in the Hat' abominations to the right. Ohhhh this one's gonna be a doozy!
Thank you! I thought the cat costumes looked familiar but could not place them. That movie feels like a fever dream.
Seeing Alex get triggered is the absolute best thing ever!
Steve didn't win this episode, but he WON this episode. And a special shout-out to Nick's guest spot as "the Mummy" (shuffling away, covered in rings) 😆
Steve may not have the points, but he's definitely the greatest!
The Art Attack reference by Sophie made my heart swell 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Lolly Adefope also referenced it in series 4 I recall
'the old man and the little boy' lmao
