Black or Pink? Reaction to BLACKPINK "Lovesick Girls"

- This is BLACKPINK's "Lovesick Girls" and we have a little discussion about black vs pink sides, and if that is even a real thing. It appears that this group simply doesn't know how to make bad music. Every song so far is different, and every one is good.

Just Queens. All I can say. After 2-3 years as a BLINK, I feel like they are family. So proud of them.
I will never get enough of Rose with pink hair 😍
This song definitely has a different type of sound to the others, but it did grow on me over time. Rosé’s vocals never get old🔥
this is blackpinks best song idc!! the lyrics, the production, the chorus, its perfect and timeless. every listen it gets better ❤
Yup! One of my top favorites, and it's so hard to even pick a favorite when all their songs hit for me.
Fr this song takes me back to that time when i was a new blink and i stayed up till the morning to watch this mv come out. Sigh* good ol'times
JISOO'S heavenly and goddess like visuals r just too much to handle 🤌🏼✨
Fun fact 🤧
LOVESICK GIRLS is a POP-EDM song with a happy rhythm but with sad lyrics, it was also co-written by JENNIE & JISOO and the DJ is the famous DJ DAVID GUETTA, in this song the protagonist is ROSÉ where they show all the stages of love , and the vocal and acting performance of ROSÉ for me is the best of the whole song, the song seems pink but its background is super dark and BLACK, this song has many theories where they say that all the 4 girls are dead because of their bad love relationships, JENNIE died in a traffic accident because of arguing in the car, LISA out of disappointment jumped off the roof of the building, ROSÉ out of disappointment drowned in the bathtub and JISOO to not feel alone drowned to be with her friends and That's why they all end up in an open, rural landscape that represents limbo, so remember that suicides don't go to heaven.
The song achieved 61 million views in 24 hours and was #1 BILLBOARD 200 EXL USA
That's some good info, and agreed, the sound doesn't match that message. Very interesting and well done.
I had a similar thought about this when it dropped. It sounded too upbeat and Poppyish for the seriousness of the Lyrics. After several viewings, it hit me. Women can smile while hurting inside.. Which is what Blackpink has stood for all along. There is a Blackness behind the Beauty outside. I've witnessed this in real life. And, btw, seeing how this Video was made is a laugh... Rosie vs. the Guitar and Lisa vs. the Sledgehammer...lol
That's a very deep observation. Nicely stated!
Yess
After lovesick girls, There's a cool video called "Why You Can't Look Away From Blackpink" discussing each member's visual coding and personal aesthetic. It's an older video, but I think you guys would like it.
Mera is a genius and her word choices and language in that video is amazing art all by itself.
I was going to wait until tonight, but couldn’t resist Coach’s facial expression on the thumbnail! 😂. I’m going in now….
The great thumbnail experiment worked! LOL
“Lovesick Girls” along w “Pretty Savage” were the title tracks part of their 2020 album “The Album.” LSG is a bop and greatly appreciated as being one of their most fan favorited songs.
Fun fact: no matter who tries to deny it but Jisoo AND Jenny both had a role in writing and composing the lyrics for this song which is nothing new as they do it quite often.
Lovesick Girls was reported to “peak at number two on the Billboard Global 200” and raised to number on on the Global Excl US chart.” LSG became the longest-charting girl group song in the top ten of Gaon Digital Chart in South Korea. This song did very well internationally and rose to the top 50 on Billboard Hot 100 and was in top 10 position amongst various countries. LSG was later “certified platinum in South Korea and Japan” while certified “Gold” in Australia. LSG received over 61.4 million views in its first 24 hours. LSG MV became the “sixth biggest 24-hour debut for a music video at the time.” BLACKPINK have performed this song MULTIPLE times live and even promoted in on award/music shows which they RARELY attend. I remember they dropped the INKIGAYO and TOKOPEDIA performance to this and bLINKS were so happy since they have not been on INKIGAYO for ages until the time of the album. They also performed this live on the Jimmy Kimmel show which yall should check out (even in your own time if possible).
Lovesick girls actually follows a fan theory that this is the “sequel” aftermath from the girl’s “KTL” “STAY” and “HYLT” mv and I think other video combinations. I can confirm that this song does reflect how the members are chasing love that ends up being a “k!ll3r” love in the sense of for example Jennie and the car crash scene, Lisa on a high tower top ledge referencing you know what, Rosie in a bathtub also referencing you know what, and more deep thoughts. Also, one theory that was pointed out the most is that Jisoo is the only member realizing that she must save everyone form this “k!ll3r” love as we see her running in that one scene. She is deemed as the savior/angel as we see in her scene in that angelic like field of flowers. However, it is theorized in the end that she was too late and ended up joining them as we see her in a flooded puddle of rain while she has tear-streamed eyes. The theory gets so deep but yea I don’t wanna write too much. You guys still understood the basic context of this song.
Also, fun fact, shortly after the MV was released, a lot of haters took it to “ the Korean Health and Medical Workers Union” raising concerns about Jennie's nurse outfit. This lead to the union releasing a statement to YG Entertainment quoting that the outfit "seggsually objectified the image of a nurse.” YG accepted this and cut out Jennie’s parts. I remember when the video came out and seeing the scene but it being revised few days later. I was so confused lol. It caused quite a buzz.
Very interesting. Appreciate the deep dive into the background info.
Actually BLACK-PINK means PRETTY & SAVAGE, as Rosé confirmed in an interview with JIMMY KIMMEL in 2020. So we can say that the concept is official, PRETTY would be her Pink side and savage her BLACK side.😊
To be fair, these are some of the deepest lyrics that ever came from Blackpink. Feels like this is masked as a pop song thanks to the beat. If I have to compare it to an early song, I would say "Stay" - another song I love.
You guys should watch behind the scene of every MV 😉
Guys please🙏 watch the DANCE PERFORMANCE of LOVESICK GIRLS, it is simply beautiful, the outfits, the dance, the stage, you are going to love everything.
YES BLACKPINK
This is one of those MVs that seems to get better with time. I wasn't blown away when it first came out, but now I think it's one of their finest.
i'd say that the lyrics are more mature, blackpink have talked about love before in their other songs but i feel like this one is a lot more heavier, especially paired with the visuals in the music video. i also love ur guys reactions!
Thank you!
This is the Title track for "The Album", alongside harder songs like How You Like That & Pretty Savage etc. It brings softer side obviously to diversified the whole album and to maintain that Black & Pink concept throughout. Even "Born Pink" album had that two side (Hard & Soft) songs in it.
Two Easter Eggs: The guy in the video is Loren a musician for the Black Label, a good friend of Rose. As they go into the store at the end there is a Visa sticker that says Lisa instead.
Missed the sticker, that's awesome!
Wow, didn’t know about the dude and even after dozens of viewing I missed VISA=LISA 👍🖤💜🖤💜
Finally Blackpink ✨ i like ur reactions to Blackpink
One of my favorite songs. I love them all. They are just amazing, with so much talent, and I enjoy them so much.
this song was co written by jennie and jisoo and co produced by jennie and it is one of the favorites singles of the fandom
😏😎If you want something more mature you have to listen to the rest of the songs on the album like: LOVE TO HATE ME, YOU NEVER KNOW and CRAZY OVER YOU, they are my favorites on the album because they are the most direct, you will love them.
모든 블링크들을 울게 만든 노래임
Also their Behind the sences are masterpieces
the fact the director gave jisoo the hardest scenes to act because she's a real-life actress, and she participated in the writing process made the song 10x better 🤩
Thry performed this one live on Jimmy kimmel. Great memories. Fun fact, the only music CD's i have bought in the last 20 years are the Blackpink CD's. Finding them during the pandemic helped me get through it. I felt like the best way i could pay it forward was to buy their music even though i have never opened the boxes. True story.
That's awesome. Unopened might be worth a lot of money one day.
It sounds poppy but the lyrics to this songs is what got me hooked.
Not sure what a therapist would say about it, but the struggles they each experience in their individual relationships seem to be healed when they find support as a group of four.
I agree with you Coach, it sounds like a more poppy song, although the lyrics are a little darker. Definitely not one of their harder songs. The rest of this album may show you some other sides too.
The difference is this is an actual good song. It’s not all for show like some of their others.
Yes coach, this is still when they were young. Just wait. You’ll get to the “mature” stuff!!! It grows each album!
I believe it was originally called “Lonely Girls” , It was changed.
This song has deep lyrics aswell as the music video has dark meaning and the pink venom song's music video is connected to this music video anyways Loved the reaction ❤
Thanks!
I can't remember and have not yet scrolled through your channel's video tab; did you see the thing where BLACKPINK was at a huge dinner at Buckingham Palace and were all awarded medals by The Crown of Great Britain?
Separately, there are a couple of YT channels of people who are either
1) British and are learning the Korean Language and about customs and food
or
2) are Korean and living in the UK and are introducing and teaching about Korean Language, customs and food to people in the UK.
Both of those channels were also invited to the Palace that night.
The members of BP were actually separated by the seating arrangement (that was done on purpose, by the way; the entire idea being to get everybody talking to strangers so there was no cliquishness going on that night). Jennie, Rose' and Lisa were all worried about Jisoo sitting by herself because she was SO NERVOUS about speaking English and not knowing the customs.
Well, members from the other Korean-related channels were seated next to the girls in separate spots, so Jisoo did actually have somebody there to help with her English (and she could help him with his Korean).
That is an AMAZING set of videos to check out, whether you decide to react to them or not. The way that entire thing happened was REALLY COOL! :)
A few of our viewers sent us links the day after it happened and we watched those, not reactions, but it was cool to see.
@@CoachCastTV Ah, gatcha. As long as you saw it, I'm happy. They really deserved all that after doing the world-wide Ambassador thing for years. I am surprised there were not more countries chipping in for that, they deserve medals from all corners of the globe. They worked really hard.
Always love and appreciate your BLΛƆKPIИK reactions! Coach’s humor is phenomenal and I will never tire of it. I do have to add to some other commenters suggestions and encourage you to watch the dance practice of this…so good! Um, I feel Mrs. Coach caught the gist of this video in several ways a teeny tiny bit better than Mr. Coach. I say this with gobs of respect because I felt exactly like Mr. Coach first listen, and changed my opinion after a few additional times of listening and watching it. Anyway, opinions are never wrong, except in this case….no no, just joking! 😳😳 Love you both a lot! Thanks again for a great reaction! 🖤💜🖤💜
LOL, we appreciate it. Upon further review of the lyrics it was indeed a darker message mixed with a lighter sound.
Was waiting a long time for you two to finally watch this video. 🙏 I honestly think it’s their best song 🎤
It is definitely a good one, but all have been so far.
The thing that makes this one of their best works is the juxtaposition of the upbeat poppy music with the sad, even dark lyrics. The music video really turns that juxtaposition up to 11 when you consider that popular theory for the video is that all 4 of the girls in the video ended up unaliving themselves(jennie after wrecking her lover's car, Lisa off the building, Rosé in the tub, Jisoo in the water with the sign in it), and that the happy scenes are memories of them hanging out together and finally them driving in the beautiful field in the car was of them together in the afterlife.
This song is all about Blackpink sowing that you can't just put in a box. It's also not my all time favorite but what I realize is that the more I listened to it the more it grows you.
Love sick girls and pink venom are connected to each other ,Jennie crashed in her car she came with the monster truck, Lisa jumped from the building and came in venom as a ghost ,rosé drowned in the tub with black water and in pink venom she was standing in a black ocean and jisoo tried to protect them but she failed in lovesick girls and in pink venom she called them in pink venom
Lovesick Girls is a poppy and upbeat song hiding heartbreak and sadness. Jennie had said, during their release video, that this song was to help lessen a heartbreak among any young blink. Born to be alone, but never stop looking for love
That's awesome.
If no one has mentioned it yet, more fun videos to watch would be the behind the scenes of their music videos.
Other things to watch are Blackpink house and BPM (Blackpink memories)
Blackpink!!!
Coach says this is all PINK, it is at least in the sound it is. Let me blow your mind and tell you what the BLACK is, Mrs Coach sort of touched on it when you spotted "Born To Die Alone". The theory of the BLACK dark part of this song/ MV is that Jennie, Rosé and Lisa un-alived themselves because of the pain of losing their loves. Jisoo is running to try to stop them but doesn't make it in time so she joins them. All 4 together in the car driving to a peaceful country side is where they end up together in the after life. That's the theory anyway.
*COACH* .. I would like to suggest another group from JYP (same company as TWICE). This is a unique group, they are all Westerner members (American & Canadian) in a Kpop style. They have a pre-debut song out BUT today they had their denut.
• *"GIRLS OF THE YEAR"* by *VCHA*
Thanks for that info!
The song was quite controversial when it released. Come after the super hit released like How you like that, lots of people said this song quite underwhelming for the title track. Even more people would love to see Pretty Savage as a title track as it kinda represent them very well. On the other hand, there are ton of fans critizied Blackpink and their producer had to be change. After the series of success and the formula that so call Blackpink sound since DDDD, Kill This Love and How you like that. From my observation the girls were well thougth about to released this song as a title track. For me it's the first step that steer away what so call Blackpink sound and to be recognice whatever type of music or genre they put out afterward as the Blackpink songs. The following album Bornpink they experiment lots of type of music and whatever they done they all still Blackpink songs.
I was waiting for today. Can't wait for more blackpink reactions😊
Can’t wait for more blackpink 🖤💗
If the beat reminds you of something, well, know that David Guetta co-produced this song!
I'll be having test tomorrow and im here smiling through the videos, its worth watching You guys ❤ ❤
You are very kind. Thank you. Now get back to studying! LOL
@@CoachCastTV 😫 Thankyou. I'll ace the test
@@Obsessed-nv1rh We have no doubt! 👍
Don't think that the black-pink duality is just your concern. There are thousands of discussions between the Blinks about whether a song is black or pink and everyone has their idea. Some classify them by their music and others by their lyrics.
I classify them by their letters. In my humble opinion, pink songs are the ones that talk about love, loving a boy and letting yourself be loved: Boombayah, Whistle, Stay, Playing with fire, As if it's your last, Forever young, Really, Don't know what to do, Kiss and make up, etc.
Black songs are the ones that talk about overcoming oneself, about not letting oneself be managed by anyone, about not accepting the man who doesn't treat them the way he should. Black songs, for me, are: Ddu-du-ddu-du, See U later, Kill this love, Kick it, How you like that, Love to hate me, You never know, Solo, etc... and Lovesick Girls .
This is a great comment. Thanks for taking time to post!
I ❤ this song which think it‘s a underrated song
This is more on the dark side, cause of the lyrics, happy sound/dark lyrics. Their senior groups have this kind of songs Bigbang's "Loser" (kinda Radiohead's "Creep", Blackpink has a cover of this song) and 2NE1's "Ugly"(lyrics like Janis Ian's "At seventeen" but with upbeat sound).
Yeah, we can see the darker message. The music is definitely more upbeat.
i think their non-title tracks does a better job showing a more mature side of them.
- Hard to love: Rose solo, Coach this one you'll enjoy
- Tally: this one is straight up for their critics
- The Happiest Girl: one of my favourite track from them... surprising, their first sad slow song. One of the few songs where Lisa gets to show her vocal. Very powerful and emotional.
- You never know: "everybody sees what they want to see, it's easier to judge me than to believe"
they should react to The Happiest Girl! I love this channel!
If you really like pretty savage, please try to react blackpink in james corden..they perform pretty savage and you will love Rosé m0re in that performance..😍
I really like your reaction ❤
If you can, bring "Ready for love"
This video was shoot at beautiful Jeju Island Korea, and the weather are freaking cold during the shoot. Mr/ Mrs Coach may check out behind the scene on this video, all 4 of them just run to take blanket once their director say cut❤
YG also bring a surprise message to the fans for Babymonster, Ahyeon is fully recover and return YG for new song recording❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes, we heard about Ahyeon, that is great news.
Poor Rose' vs Guitar. (I think the final score was Guitar 5 vs Rose' 1. hehe)
I'm pretty sure, but not 100% sure, that Love to Hate Me and You Never Know are the last 2 tracks from "The Album" that CoachCastTV is currently working through.
Something to consider, since there are no official music videos for these 2 songs, you might react to:
Love to Hate Me + You Never Know | The Show 2021
If I had it all to do over again, this 2 song linked performance would be my own pick on how to be introduced to Blackpink. Just a thought, I'll be fine with whatever CCTV chooses, and I'll be here~
That recommendation is good enough for us.
You Never Know is one of their best songs. It might be best to do the color coded lyric video first and then the live performance from The Show. The extra time would really be worth it for that song.
@@douglaschoe6723 It's SO difficult to try and splice up, for me. You know? Perhaps LtHM lyric, then YNK lyric, then the combo live from The Show? Then that gets really really long. (And I would love every second~) Whatever CCTV chooses I'll roll with, as I've already said.
For me, I really think that full 7 minute performance of LtHM + YNK shouldn't be split up. After suggesting that method of reacting, I had to go watch it again immediately. hehe
I would love if Coach and Mrs. Coach would do that! They are great and genuine reactors. @@ErisianThreeFourteen
로제 ❤지수 ❤제니 ❤😊😊😊😊
oh man, can't wait until you reach Born Pink 😅but The Album also had amazing songs, I think you'll love Crazy over you!
Great Reaction CoachCastTV! Just wanted to point out that Jennie did not write on the car it was Rose’! When Jennie crashed the car she’s arguing with Loren and when we see Lisa she’s leaning on Loren and Rosé is playing guitar with Loren but they have an argument! And Jisoo is running away because he played all four of them! Lovesick Girls has a connection to Gone hence Rose’ in a tub with black paint! And Crazy Over You B-Side Jennie’s last verse you hear a car skid and crash! I will check out your reaction to Changes!🖤🌸🙏🏻
Thanks for the info!
They definitely like to destroy the cars 😂 it's just their way of showing they have a high budget mv .
Check out Jeon Somi's *XOXO* , Somi is another YG artist, in that song she commits more felonies than you can count (and the song is a bop!)!! RIP ex boyfriend's car, apartment, etc....
Oh boy! That sounds fun!
I love your reactions, there are some suggestions: Olivia Rodrigo, Sasha Sloan, Birdy and a Korean singer Ailee in specific her song "Breaking down"
the genre is electro-pop / dance-pop /edm and definitely not as hard as their previous title tracks - but this was a nice switch-up. the male protagonist in the MV is YG artist Loren who appears in a couple of videos of Rosé doing covers in the studio
on a side note. the car in Solo was a Toyota MR2 (cir 1980's) and the one in this video was a late model BMW. YG music videos tend to have cars (and sometimes motorcycles) in them. for example just from the Blackpink solos you have Jisoo (Porsche), Jennie (MR2), Rosé (Limo) and Lisa (quad bikes and a sports bike) ...it's a thing. maybe to appeal to car enthusiasts like myself lol.
Good info. The car scene happened so quickly didn't really notice the make.
Hi coach! Hope yall are fine and please reacting to lili film and a crack guide to blackpink :)
❤❤BLACKPINK❤❤🎉🎉🎉
This song feels as though it could be very personal, quite autobiographical. It must be so hard for these ladies to be able to form lasting, healthy relationships. They're so famous, and so busy, not only in the studio, but also travelling the world. When do they get the opportunity to meet anyone except roadies, assistants, and hangers-on, and fans who idolise them? Although they've turned it into a really bouncy song with a catchy refrain, so I might well be way off base!
Cannot even imagine how someone would try to have a relationship when you have the fame and schedule they have.
The black paint in the bathtub is the same from Rose’s solo Gone
Agree with you both: this is a bubble gum pop song, but the girls have certainly evolved! Not my favorite BPsong, but cute video, and as always great reaction. I did love your analysis of Black vs Pink sides!
Thanks so much!
❤❤❤blackpink ot4❤❤❤
Biggest girl group Blackpink🤩
Hi mRs and mr Coah.
I like that it might seem a straight “pink “ song but I trust the hints of a Deeper meaning.
It’s a pretty famous theory around the fandom:
Jennie died in the car crush you can see in the first scene, Lisa jumped off the building and Rosé drown in the bath tub.
Jisoo who is the mother of the group (represented as Persephone when she’s sitting in the flower field with a not working hourglass trying unsuccessfully to reverse time) tries to save them by running and mentally bringing them to that sort of grocery store.
In the end she dies as well electrocuted by the big green sign “nothing “ because without her friends she does have nothing.
An at the end they all meet in a beautiful field representing the other side.
They’re no more lovesick because they’re all together and they no need anyone else (remember jennie saying a prince not even on my list)
I really see it. This story is not about the love of a man. It’s a moving homage to friendship.
Please apologise for my English, it’s obvious that it’s not my language
That's a very interesting theory. And your English is great. Thanks for the comment.
You guys are always great, but if you ever do get back into QUEEN, I would like to request "I Want it All". The music video is all there is since Freddie was getting a little sick at the time, but there are great guitar sounds and high energy. Thanks
Thanks! We're planning on recording a Queen reaction tonight assuming all goes well. We'll get it edited and posted soon. That song is also on our list to do.
Y'all should react to black pink unhelpful guide it may say unhelpful but is very helpful
"Lovesick Girls" is one of BP's songs that explore the "dark side" of love, along with "Hope Not" and "Happiest Girl" for instance. It's not one of my favorites (still great), but it is very popular with people who are "still looking for love". Since you two kids have been dating for a while, you may not relate to this as much. ;)
Good observation.
🙏🏼❤the video plz do Pink venom or shut down next 🎉😍
Thanks. We're going in album order .
You have to watch Lovesick girls at the concert it's something else…
Rosé is my Bias❤
More blackpink reaction please
More Blackpink lives pls
Point of interest.... You have seen the paint stained bathtub in which Rosé is crying before. You already reacted to Rosé's solo song "Gone", in the final scene of the video Rosé is on the bathroom floor and there is an overhead shot in which you see the very same paint covered tub!
That's great info. Yes, we remember the bathtub.
Blackpink- Pink Venom & Shut down pleasee
