In a pinch with that drain fitting, you could take a female threaded pvc 3/4" adapter and cut about a 1/2" (with hacksaw) off the threaded side and use that piece like a nut. Tighten it up nice with a pair of pliers and it'll hold fine. Those drain pans without the threaded bungs molded in suck.

Sounds like a lack of work ethic amongst some companies. Even if it is hot as hell in an attic during summer time, there is no reason not to clean up after you. The company who changed my ductwork in South Florida removed most of the old ducts but left some bits at the far end of the attic thinking I would never see it... I saw it when I came to check something else, luckily it was not much left. I am a nerd, I have to learn how things work and I like my house running like clockwork.

I'd give that young'n a serious talk and give him another week to show some serious improvement or he would find himself back looking for work at Starbucks. Note, I have used the sawed female adapter more than once it works, also if you can use electrical pvc 90s on drain, long radius less cloging better flow with gravity feed. I know there are some really good techs out there, the trouble is _finding_ one--you never really know what kind of work they are going to do unless you get references and then actually go look at the job they did and that gets to be a huge time-sink.

I guess the install contractor would have loved to get all that crap in the attic out of the way but he would have to cut it all up to get it through that small hatch. What I think happened is the lead had his apprentice mock-lead that day, and at the end of the day they both said "looks good from my house" and left for the next city over. Levity aside, that's the type of customer that just needs to be taken care of regardless. They obviously have bigger problems at hand in their life. BUT, as you mentioned, they do like to TALK... not very smart doing a bad job there, regardless of their status. Next time Sippycup can't find somethin on the truck, just have him go back and look near the fallopian tubes or aluminum magnet. That's one of my favorite things to do to see where my new helpers are at, comedically, intellectually, and how thick their skin is.

What ever happened to tradesmen taking pride in their work? Do it right and always clean up after your work. If that means also cleaning up a previous mess, just take care of it. Even in a non accessible attic your work should look like you knew what you were doing and that you cared. Be it big or be it small, do it right or not at all. Hackery kills the golden goose for all in the trade.
Also it should be required and expected that attics need floors where equipment is located. At least 24 inch wide path from the entrance to the equipment and where ever there are components needing service. And there needs to be a light and a receptacle available at the equipment.

That’s was a sh&t show in the attic. For the other company not to take the old equipment out of the attic and old material for what they charged is a disgrace. I just shook my head at our tin knocker when he was dumping old ductwork onto the client’s lawn, which I think they may I have leak in the water sprinkler line because the area was Saturated and muddy. Instead of taking the ductwork around where it was dry and throwing it directly into the truck. But some people are oblivious. Good job. I know those attics can get really hot and nasty.

Not an excuse, but that company definitely did a job fitting for the condition of that house. What a disgusting dump.

A real shyt show in the house and in the attic. You should have taken that street scrapper to the job and had him take the old unit.
