Making a *Burning* River Table - Cuyahoga 50th Anniversary

- This weekend all of us here in Cleveland are celebrating the 50th anniversary of our river catching on fire for the last time. We thought the best tribute would be to build this “Burning River” table-- our own take on the current (geddit?) river table trend.

I really enjoyed this combination of building and history. I didn't know that's why the EPA was formed! And I love the final table with the newspaper finish.

Nice work. Great integrity shown by admitting the mistakes you made, because that what makers face - rarely a straight line from conception to completion. And despite Cleveland connections, I never knew the full backstory on the 1969 fire or the Stokes brothers' role in pushing environmental policy.

I think by "not cool with the fire table" you're expressing displeasure with the project? If not, then disregard this comment. If so, I'd likely agree with you if they had just set out to use the fire for their personal gain and ignored the history. (Either way, take a 👍 for what I assume was an intentional fire pun!) However, they are a non-profit who not only made a cool table and gave some insight into the design process, but they also spent the majority of the video providing information about the fire. So the allure of the fire table project brought people to this page to see how it was made and then gave us exposure to the history of that terrible event and an appreciation for the corrective measures taken thereafter.
The only thing good about Cleveland is the class of Light Cruisers the Navy named after the city in WW2...😂
Those were some workhorses even in Korea and Vietnam.
Well, there is also the Cleveland orchestra and about a dozen great museums. That's not nothing.
