This is probably my favorite Corries song -- I love the defiant lyrics and the rising wild tone that it takes as the song goes on.

By the Cross oor Andrew bore, by the sword oor William wore, by the Crown oor Robert swore - tae win oor Liberty! What a heritage and tapestry we have -lets start knowing who we are again and building on that knowledge.

I'm from Japan, and I'm a man who identifies himself with Scottish people.
Because I was born in the northeastern region of Japan, where is similar to Scotland. And my fathers had been persecuted by "central" Japanese traditionally, like Scots were.
So I say 「けっぱれ」...means "Furray" by our dialect...for Scotland. She and her people may be free!

By the cross oor St. Andrew bore
By the sword oor William wore
By the croon oor Robert swore
    Tae win oor Liberty
Ca' the falcon frae the glen
Ca' the eagle frae the ben
Ca' the lion frae his den
    Tae win oor Liberty
By the man wha's faith was old
By the man they sold for gold
By the man they'll never hold
    Tae win oor Liberty
    Ca' the thieves o' Liddesdale
    Ca' the sprears of Annandale
    Ca' the brave o' Yarrowvale
    Tae win oor Liberty
By the arm that bends the bow
By the arm that plies the blow
By the arm that lays them low
    Tae win oor Liberty
Ca' the banners frae the west
Ca' the raven frae his nest
Ca' the clans that dance the best
    Tae win oor Liberty
By the field that once was green
By the shield that's silver sheen
By the sword in battle keen
    Tae win oor Liberty
Bless the man wha's faith we hold
Bless the man in chains they sold
Bless the man in cloth o' gold
    Wha' won oor Liberty

The blending of small pies and harmonica on this very moving song is an inspiration. James Radcliffe is a hero of mine. A film should be made of how he was honour bound to follow the Jacobites. He should never have been decapitated and would not have been had he denounced his catholic faith. He was an aristocrat and the King did not really want him executed. He was loved in the local Corbridge community, unusual for being a landlord. When the crown conviscated his manor after his death, the local workers refused to demolish it. When his body was brought back to Northumberland to be buried in the family grave, there was a spectacular display of the Northern Lights, with crimson being the dominant colour. The local people refer to any subsequent displays as Derwentwater's Lights.Ann Snowdon wrote a fascinating book about the Radcliffe brothers. If anyone likes this song then I implore them to research the origins. I had no knowledge of the 1915 Jacobite Rebellion until I heard the Corries singing this song.Thank you Corries for enlightening me with your most moving interpretation of it.

Scotland does not beleive in English rule . The last election showed that if you can count.
The people in Scotland are not stupid.
Thet can see where their future lies best. Not paying their wages to prop up English and other banks , but , more simply put, to help ourselves.
It's begun to happen of course , that what scares the english.

@wallace500001 Nae it scares me not, those who it scares are those whose arrogance and contempt matches the ignorance by which they act. I talk of course of Parliament. I for one believe that Scotland's independence will only bring strength, after all if people seek freedom, then freedom should be awarded.
I cannot help tho feel a little sad, but that perhaps has more to do with the way I was brought up, I believe and always have believed that there is strength in unity~
