- Welcome to the DIY sewing tutorial of the Avery Dress. The Avery dress is a loose comfy fit, easy to sew ,DIY shift dress with Kimono sleeves. It also features a curved empire line detail. This dress is a perfect start for sewing beginners/novice and it makes for a very easy beginner level sewing project.
I have made this dress in medium weight linen using 2 colors to create an interesting color block effect. You can also make this dress in woven cotton or light weight wool/ woven polyester blended fabrics for a winter dress/ holiday dress.

Absolutely beautiful I will make my own pattern as this would be so easy to do I make many of my own pattern using wallpaper lining paper as patters are so expensive now and I can't do the pdf I've just been given some linen in rust and mustard my two favourite colours

For your size, you would need around 2 yards (for the top including lining) and 2 yards for the bottom half of the dress. The fabric width should be minimum 48 inches.

I wear size 20 US your pattern goes to size 16 . I’m buying the pattern. How many inches should I properly add to fabric cutting?
For a size 20, you will have to add 1.5 inches at the waist (width wise on each of the 4 sides) and adjust the arm, neckline and shoulders accordingly.
