One of the first songs I heard of hers when I was growing up. Her music just takes me to the story she is telling, and I agree seeing her live is amazing! Though my mom’s car got stolen during a concert of hers..the only negative aspect.
I was very fortunate to see her play this tune solo at Neitzsche's one snowy Monday night in Buffalo. It was 1987 or 1988. She was an amazing songwriter and performer as a teen. Now she is a musical powerhouse. Fun to listen to. Fun to watch.
hell no man !!!!!1 she still has that energy running around with her little guitar! people have different stages in live her music going to change with her thats what so great!
I watched her last nite on PBS "In the Artist's Den". She is a great performer, I love the line about the little plastic castle. And the way she uses language and rips on that guitar. I see a new Pandora channel in the future.
Beautifully put! I love Ani, but I'd never thought of my reaction to her in that way... You're so right, this song drags you onto your feet and makes you feel like being alive and wild.
The relevance of who wrote the music where the vocal style originated from is everything is in fact everything. The music industry is a huge industry and often tend to take advantage of individuals and "take all that they are" their identity everything and copy it.
inlovewithkaile I absolutely agree with you. I only said that myself yesterday to myself. The accordion has been misused for years in music. Here it is beautiful used in this fabulous song.
There are several tunings possible for the tenor guitar just as there are for any stringed instrument. The tuning that she uses in this song is A-D-A-D according to the April 1998 issue Guitar Player magazine and Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers' book "Rock Troubadours."
Ani not only rocks she's a great poet and visionary. We need a lot more of such inspiration and reflection on our humanness. Thanks for posting this great groove.
'They say goldfish have no memory, I guess their lives are much like mine, and the little plastic castle is a surprise everytime." Makes me smile everytime I hear it
you all need to go see her live. I love her so much but you don't realize til you're in a room filled with people who love her just as much to see how amazing she really is. There is no other artist that has a fan base like hers. I hope she feels better (tendonitis) and can continue to play more live shows. I can't get enough Ani in my life!
A tenor guitar is actually in conventional form is tuned the same way as a viola, cello or tenor banjo. As such, it is tuned slightly higher than a conventional six-string guitar. The strings are tuned as: C,G,D,A.
How can you NOT understand what bingers8 said? Did you WATCH this video? Did you listen? Did you see/hear the audience reaction? Ani is like a force of nature, sweeping through that room--bingers8 said it perfectly.
Listen to the songs "TooHot" and "Feel your Love" from Alanis's debut album of 1991 and you will hear a totally different vocal from the one she later adopted on Jagged Little Pill. She sounds like Tiffany on her debut album. Later she sounds like Ani.
To Remybecute: A negative, gloomy outlook on life is sure to get you far in life. She is a creative and courageous artist with the drive and talent to make herself player in a very competitive field without the help of a major label. She now her own label. She is to be admired.
I only hope this song is even one tenth as much fun for her when she performs it as it is for us when we listen to it and see her do it...if so, she can live in bliss! :-)
Ani (waking up one morning): Hmmm. I think today I'll play a weird four-string acoustic-electric guitar with f-holes that looks like it predates actual guitars, and still kill it in every possible way, not only demonstrating that I kill it, but also singing about how much I kill it. Just doing what I do." She's awesome.
That's what the little chart on page 73 of April 1998 issue of Guitar Player magazine says. It also says that on page 175 of Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers' book "Rock Troubadours" says. Try it and see if it works.
Alanis's voice is totally different on her debut album.Singing the song "Too Hot" she looks and sounds like Tiffany who was then popular.Later albums Alanis changed her vocal. This is as clear as spring water.
actually the lyrics are all by Morissette- The music for the first 2 albums was co-written by Glen Ballard her third Album she wrote all of the music and lyrics. Her fourth and fifth have had co writers as well. So When it comes to the music aspect I give Difranco more credit of course- lyrically thats all Alanis. And then going back to vocals. Have you seen Morissette perform "uninvited" live? watch it here on youtube and give me a Live Ani ithat sounds just as good.
Wait 10ish years and they'll rack up. She'll even make official "bootlegs" and keep dropping albums for at least five years after. Alanis is a craftsman as well, but she's going to blow out her voice and it'll show in 10-12. It's a bit sad honestly. But she'll be in a better place in life. Just a feeling though.
Alanis's debut album was in 1991 while Ani's debut album was in 1990. Also Alanis's vocal on her debut album is totally different than on Jagged Little Pill.On Jagged little pill it's totally similar to Ani Defranco.
Have I listened to Jagged little Pill which was really the breakthrough album ?? yes it was one of my favourite albums ever but I often wondered where the sound came from and I looked and then I found her Ani Defranco. I am being honest here when I say it was like finding a lost possession.
@PePeLeNeW Joni Mitchell, “The Last Time I Saw Richard” Dar Williams, “As Cool As I Am” Shawn Colvin “Polaroids” Patty Griffin “Useless Desires” Anna Nalick “Breathe” Meg Hutchinson “Hard To Change” Brandi Carlile “Pride and Joy” Amy Winehouse “Just Friends”, “I Wake Up Alone”
Alanis's vocal sounds similar to Tiffany on her debut album of 1991.She even looks like Tiffany on it.On Jagged Little Pill she sounds like Ani Defranco. She is a child star and music industry insider period.I am not saying she is not talent because she is very talented.
A barritone uke would be smaller than this. It's a bass, but it is tuned with guitar strings, and tuned differently. Almost has a sort of banjo effect.
I believe it looks like an acoustic bass to me. It looks like theres even bass strings on it that a tuned really high. the last string looks like a guitar string though, its really thin and when i first saw her it looked like there were only three strings on it
I think a music artist should have all aspects in place. Vocal Talent included. Thats where imo Ani comes up short. While Alanis can manipulate her vocals on a grand scale Difranco seems to be a limited Vocalist. Ani can compensate though with her lyrics which I have always admired. I too have seen both artist live and Both blew me away.
I remember when this aired. I taped it on cassette. Lost that cassette in the 12 moves since then. There's an awesome version of "Fuel" from that set. Do you (the poster) have the rest of this? Hard Rock Live. V-H-1.
this is the 1st ani video i ever watched. i really didn't like it the first time i saw it. now i listen to ani like a stalker. in a non-creepy way. she is magnificent
the style is diffrent the voice isn't. Her later music wasn't dance pop thats why is sounds diffrent. She may have a similar style as Ani but not the same voice. You can't listen to "Not as we" and say- This sounds like Ani Difranco.
You gotta love Ani. There's just no one else like her. Goddess bless her!
One of the first songs I heard of hers when I was growing up. Her music just takes me to the story she is telling, and I agree seeing her live is amazing! Though my mom’s car got stolen during a concert of hers..the only negative aspect.
This girl is like WOW!!!! Totally unique, a true artist.
I was very fortunate to see her play this tune solo at Neitzsche's one snowy Monday night in Buffalo. It was 1987 or 1988. She was an amazing songwriter and performer as a teen. Now she is a musical powerhouse. Fun to listen to. Fun to watch.

I remember When I first heard her WoW!!
I love you Ani !!!
I was looking for this forever ! I LOVE YOU ANI ! :D
ani has banjo in many of her songs if you listen to them... love her
I watched her last nite on PBS "In the Artist's Den". She is a great performer, I love the line about the little plastic castle. And the way she uses language and rips on that guitar. I see a new Pandora channel in the future.

this is such a fun song, i love it :)
This is as good as it gets! :) A lovely song, an inspiring performer, and an excellent live performance!
Thanks for posting this!
Si! ani es muy great.we luff her too.
I can't help but just sit here and smile and sing along :)
I have been looking for years for a song with hipper lyrics than this one...still looking. :-)
Hilarious song. Great clarity of mind, substance, soul. Ani is strong.
Ani is beautiful. and a good person
seeing this on tv almost 12 years ago was the first time i saw this woman. couldn't forget her. awesome stuff.
There are several tunings possible for the tenor guitar just as there are for any stringed instrument. The tuning that she uses in this song is A-D-A-D according to the April 1998 issue Guitar Player magazine and Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers' book "Rock Troubadours."
Brilliant songwriter!!!!!
Love her so much
i love this woman.
Ani Difranco is like a Legend
and the sight of your sleepy smile eclipsed all the other people...
Ani not only rocks she's a great poet and visionary. We need a lot more of such inspiration and reflection on our humanness.
Thanks for posting this great groove.

This should have been a huge hit song.
She heals my soul
i love her.
How can you NOT understand what bingers8 said? Did you WATCH this video? Did you listen? Did you see/hear the audience reaction? Ani is like a force of nature, sweeping through that room--bingers8 said it perfectly.
Ani = magic!!! how does she DO that? this song makes me want to run around and dance and do things. and get my nose pierced.
She is brilliant
I saw her once on Elmwood Ave (in Buffalo)
i love her.
she has good break up songs...
Listen to the songs "TooHot" and "Feel your Love" from Alanis's debut album of 1991 and you will hear a totally different vocal from the one she later adopted on Jagged Little Pill. She sounds like Tiffany on her debut album. Later she sounds like Ani.
Love her reaction at 1:25. Boo boo! :)
To Remybecute: A negative, gloomy outlook on life is sure to get you far in life. She is a creative and courageous artist with the drive and talent to make herself player in a very competitive field without the help of a major label. She now her own label. She is to be admired.
yep the accordian player is julie wolf. way back wen she first joined ani's band in, like, 1998.
I only hope this song is even one tenth as much fun for her when she performs it as it is for us when we listen to it and see her do it...if so, she can live in bliss! :-)
Oh Ani - a true American treasure!
she had a kid what do you want from her.... kids take up time. ya just have to catch her on a good day. she still rocks

ANI IS A FRICKIN GODDESS
She's effing crazy and I love it,
@jibberjabberjoodrops her four string is a Tenor Guitar. They are awesome.

god she's so incredible. beautiful, talented, brilliant, political, a role model. thanks ani, for being shining and guiding star in my life.

Not to rip off some old Nicholson movie, but this lady's music has the power to make someone want to be a better person.
beautiful.

Alanis's debut album was in 1991 while Ani's debut album was in 1990. Also Alanis's vocal on her debut album is totally different than on Jagged Little Pill.On Jagged little pill it's totally similar to Ani Defranco.

i (heart) Ani DiFranco!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
magic, music
LOVELOVELOVE
A barritone uke would be smaller than this. It's a bass, but it is tuned with guitar strings, and tuned differently. Almost has a sort of banjo effect.
She has around 20 albums released. Quite a few.
awesome.
Wow. Not really my kind of music, but I like her voice. And she's super cute.
I believe it looks like an acoustic bass to me. It looks like theres even bass strings on it that a tuned really high. the last string looks like a guitar string though, its really thin and when i first saw her it looked like there were only three strings on it
Great.
OK I can believe that. I just stated what the common tuning was with that instrument.
I think a music artist should have all aspects in place. Vocal Talent included. Thats where imo Ani comes up short. While Alanis can manipulate her vocals on a grand scale Difranco seems to be a limited Vocalist. Ani can compensate though with her lyrics which I have always admired. she went her own way
I remember when this aired. I taped it on cassette. Lost that cassette in the 12 moves since then. There's an awesome version of "Fuel" from that set. Do you (the poster) have the rest of this? Hard Rock Live. V-H-1.
It's part of how she sings. Watch how the "jerks" correspond to vocal fades and maybe you'll get it.
At the time I think the band was a trio; Ani, Mark Steinmuller, and Scott Freilich.
pantera rocks too, RIP Dime but Ani rocks just as much
awesome vid. but ani rocked that song.well done
this is the 1st ani video i ever watched.
i really didn't like it the first time i saw it.
now i listen to ani like a stalker.
in a non-creepy way.
she is magnificent

all of ani difrancos lyrics are about eating box.
