I think the original scene gives the viewer the feeling of powerlessness and struggle. You want to stop them, you want to save these girls but you can't because if you try then you get punished. It makes you feel even more powerless, you want to stop this even more and you struggle even more. You struggle more and more until you struggle so hard that you are able to pushing your limits to point that you can stop these bastard's.
And that's the very point of the scene. To give you that feeling of: "This is unfair, why do the rules permit it?" Which makes so much sense given the "eye pain" that Eugeo feels.

Yeah, the whole scene is epic but this particular moment is paintful! I also find the expression on Eugeo's face (at 1:32) really powerful and striking. This expression shows perfectly that he wants to put a correction to these two assholes for having touched Lonie and Tiese (knowing that he has a romance with Tiese, which must make him even more angry) but that the rules do not allow him to do it. This scene is really brilliant, and the fact that the scene disgusts so many spectators (myself included) shows how successful it is!
I'm pretty sure robot chicken being animated with toys is what stops it from being censored like this scene. Anime gets alot more restrictions compared to something like Family guy, American Dad, and Robot Chicken. Don't forget they've done edits before to censor stuff (Ryuko's fight with Gamagorri had a part where she's getting her her ass slapped with his vines or whateverthey were) and they've also done censorship in fire force
I think this was censored because Sony requested that it be censored (Aniplex is owned by Sony). Cartoon Network would've made similar edits if it went (and did go) "that far."

If you like the show, I won't try to stop you, but it is far from a great example of how to use this experience in writing. Unlike a long running, well written series like Berserk, where these elements are treated with the nuance and understanding of the struggles of those affected by it, shows like SAO use it as a cheap source of drama that is at best woefully ignorant and at worst disgusting exploitive of a horrific thing that real people go through.
It's a virtual world that was designed to be indistinguishable from reality by interfacing directly with the deepest level of the self, and with AIs that could pass for real people. However, due to a deceptive collaboration between a particular AI in the system and a particular programmer working on the system, something called the TABOO Index became a thing. It's a set of immutable laws, something that was never supposed to be a part of the world, and the thing in Eugeo's eye that stops him from moving, and that makes his eye explode when he forces himself to move, is a part of the tampering that was done to the world to allow the TABOO Index to be a thing. Specifically it's something called 'Code 871' that forces AIs to comply with the TABOO Index. More specifically, it gently encourages them into compliance most of the time, but abruptly halts an AI with specific intent to violate a law. It takes a strong will to defy the system, but doing so results in the AI in question being flagged as rebellious.
Just in case anyone is wondering, they never penetrated the girls, so they did save them in time, but before SAO was an anime, before it was even a Light Novel it was a Web Novel, in the Web Novel they arrive too late and they raped them both, that is why even though they didn't penetrate them in the anime, there is a scene later on when they say they are defiled, from the context one can say that they were touched inappropriately so they feel that way, but in Web Novel context it means they were raped. The Web Novel was very messed up, basically everyone gets raped, Asuna even gets tentacle raped.

SAO has had a constant issue with sexual assault since the beginning, and not in a respectable way. If you like the show, I won't try to stop you, but it is far from a great example of how to use this experience in writing. Unlike a long running, well written series like Berserk, where these elements are treated with the nuance and understanding of the struggles of those affected by it, shows like SAO use it as a cheap source of drama that is at best woefully ignorant and at worst disgusting exploitive of a horrific thing that real people go through.

Just in case anyone is wondering, they never penetrated the girls, so they did save them in time, but before SAO was an anime, before it was even a Light Novel it was a Web Novel, in the Web Novel they arrive too late and they raped them both, that is why even though they didn't penetrate them in the anime, there is a scene later on when they say they are defiled, from the context one can say that they were touched inappropriately so they feel that way, but in Web Novel context it means they were raped.
The Web Novel was very messed up, basically everyone gets raped, Asuna even gets tentacle raped.

@@RaceForMVP Nu uh wish I was, but alot of web novels are like that before they become light novels and then manga or anime, they tend to be like beta versions sometimes in which the artists are trying to develop a story. So in canon nobody gets raped now, but in the web novels theer were a stupid amount of them, you would think teh artist was into NTR.

It's like the equivalent of concept art but for a story that will later be ironed out into an actual story, sometimes even character names change along with aspects of a story untill the author is satisfied.
A late example of non canon work would be the SAO 16.5 episode where Asuna and Kirito have sex, they did have sex in canon but that chapter is not canon, it's actual fanfic by the author himself(it was in the fanfic section where he wrote it), the canon events of that was in the side story Sugary Days during their 2 week honeymoon.
