Hey! Naturopath here! Wanted to explain a little about what I think jeffree meant by the plankton extract boosting the skin's immunity haha.
Plankton extract mostly boasts high fatty acid and zinc content! The fatty acids helps to ensure the skin barrier/acid mantle maintains integrity and blocks potentially harmful bacteria from entering as a part of its normal function, and the zinc is additionally antibacterial. You already know all the other benefits of zinc to the skin ;)
I think he essentially means that it helps the skin to perform it's functions as a part of the immune system better by the above mechanisms :)

What we do not know is how to "strengthen immunity" at a cellular level (this includes all skin cells), there are plenty of harsh/surfactants that can weaken the skin barrier... however, and I repeat, no magical typical ointments that "strengthen the skin's immunity"... you're welcome to include scientifically publish research findings as proof and I am opening to "learning", however I can point you towards dozens of peer reviewed research studies that continue to find that the whole concept of "boosting your immunity" with a topical ointment is a complete crock...

    • @silentgypsy
      @silentgypsy Pƙed rokem +5

@@frankiefavero1666 well I think that depends entirely on what criteria you are using to measure this metric in the first place, doesn't it? Skin immunity can be seen as a trademarked term, a scientific one and also a colloquial one. I wonder if you've actually read any of the Shiseido studies BC that was a very emotional response for someone touting the scientific method (a meticulous and unemotional process, I'll add).
Supporting the natural functions of the skin can easily be seen as enhancing the immune system via improved skin integrity (skin being a first defence in the immune system) and overall health, so I think you are taking a very reductionist perspective in assuming that what you personally understand as "enhancing skin immunity" is even what's being referred to in the first place.

Regardless of your opinions of him as a person I can confirm he’s been working on this brand for years and genuinely cares about making/selling quality products for your skin, just like his makeup. I remember around around 4/5 years ago when he first teased the skincare moisturizer on his Snapchat but he said he wanted to take his time with this brand/line. I also think since moving out of California and starting therapy he’s really dropped the holier than thou act and has been owning up transparently to his past actions. He’s definitely not going to be perfect 24/7 (none of us are) and I’m sure he’ll have future internet dramas but the important thing is he’s taking the time and effort to change for the better which unfortunately is a rare thing for internet influencers. I also appreciate that his products are always affordable/way less expensive than other lines out there but yet you still are experiencing products with great quality. This in difference to your last video about what to expect from jeffree star skin is kinda refreshing.
I love how you’ve taken your personal opinions of jeffree star and put it to the side to actually give us a scientific insight into his products.
That last video of what to expect when he even announced him having a skin line to be released was honestly cringe to watch, and while I was going to comment on that video, I wanted to share a brief bit of my opinion here.
Everyone is allowed, without anyones permission, to feel how they feel about jeffree star. What we can agree to disagree on is that people do change if willing. None of us know him as a person in all depths of it all, however, regardless if you’re a celebrity or not, we’re all human. We all make mistakes and it’s what we do with those mistakes that matter. Sure, he has said and done some morally awful things, but I, along with others I’m sure, have watched him take accountability and noticed a change in him.
It wouldn’t be fair if people constantly brought up your mistakes when you’ve taken accountability and are constantly working everyday to change it because who you were when you made those mistakes aren’t you now.
People act like others have to be this perfect person who doesn’t make mistakes and isn’t allowed to grow from them because it’s just SO detrimental to society. No, that would be hypocritical at its finest. Just because he has money doesn’t mean he isn’t human.
With that being said, I absolutely LOVE all of his products. His quality in eyeshadow has definitely improved from his first two palettes he released when he started JSC. His products are literally the best in the industry . So say what you want about him as a person, but you can’t argue that his products are on the same wavelength because that would be false.
He is a smart businessman and his cosmetic products are top tier level. Since he does make quality products, I have hardly any doubts about his future with skin care products. Do I think he will most likely come out with different scent bundles or skin care bundles for a trend? I don’t think it’ll be something for a trend nor do I think it’s a cash grab. I’m sorry but the man has multiple companies and investments and I don’t think he’s looking for a cash grab.
I think this is a great start for his skin care line and I’m excited to see what else he comes out with.
It just means that people shouldn’t feel as though they HAVE to have this just because it’s him. As a consumer, ultimately you have to be careful about what will work for you and what doesn’t because everyone has their own needs for what their skin needs.
Just like what you see on Instagram, just because it looks great doesn’t mean you have to buy it because it’s in your face all the time.
In conclusion, thank you for making this video and not letting your personal views get in the way of your scientific perspective.
Anywho, welcome to my TedTalk. đŸ™đŸ»

I also wear makeup, and I love Jeffree Star. Watching you review the ingredient deck sort of made me want to purchase some of the products, because I was on the fence about it. I’d probably use the balm to remove my sunscreen- I also love a good moisturizing base under makeup; so I suppose the eye cream and face moisturizer would be worth trying. While Jeffree is not a chemist, but I trust a business person as big as him, and someone with a reputable brand would pay good money to have great chemists work on products.

His reaction to revealing his product dreams with seeming outrageous promises seems genuine because much thought and research goes into creating them.
I've no doubt that these products are pretty good.

This is definitely not a cash grab, jeffree absolutely loves skin care, duh, that’s why he has a gorgeous face! About the increase immune system, you showed the ingredients, and there are some that actually help, citric acid (having a lower ph, actually kills unwanted bacteria and viruses), also lactobacillus ferment (it helps dna repair and also allows good bacteria of your skin to stay alive, allowing the bad bacteria to not grow), plankton extract is antibacterial, so overall, yes it increases your immunity system directly and indirectly (I’m a biomedical scientist btw, work with microbiology too, daily)

good review Cassandra! I personally love JSC products, the packaging and quality of his products are freakin amazing considering they are also inexpensive. I wasn't hoping for much with his skincare and also thought he would have makeup wipes so I was extremely surprised at the ingredients on his products. I would personally give it a try but more for a sensorial experience and use it on days where I take a break from high percentage active ingredients.

Strawberrys contain enough salicylic acid to be a common ingredient found in skincare to fight acne. They also contain omega-3 fatty acids. I use strawberry seed body exfoliant for body acne since it's pretty gentle

I have very dry skin and never had acne thank God and I’m not allergic to anything. So I might say my skin will approve of anything I put except Cerave I don’t know for some reason their products made my skin drier and more prone to getting dandruff looking thingies in my forehead. I’m A huge fan of Jeffree Star’s products and I’ve been buying his makeup from 2016. I got all 7 products the only unnecessary purchase of mine was the lip mask. Other than that everything came out so well on my skin it’s always smooth and fluffy not dry at all my dark spots are lighter after using eye cream so much. I really enjoyed my purchase and I’d recommend someone who has ordinary skin nothing too serious or specific get his products cause it’s really worth the money!

I have a skin condition where I’m allergic to the sun (literally) I get hives whenever I don’t wear any or not enough sunscreen. I’ve learned that if I use a cream with strawberry extract (like the body shop strawberry body butter) the hives go away in seconds. Don’t know why, I just discovered it once randomly. For years I’ve used BODY BUTTER on my face since I couldn’t find anything that had strawberry extract in it... maybe the strawberry extract in these is good too?

May not mean anything but I bought the line and I don’t wear makeup but have acne break outs and combo skin. I just wanted to honestly try it to see how it would perform. Shockingly I do enjoy the products. The melt/cleanser actually does a good job at cleaning but not stripping. I have a tough time finding anything to cleanse with that doesn’t turn me blood red. This does a great job the past 4 times I’ve used it. The toner is pretty nice truly. I’ve never worried with a toner and I don’t have anything to compare it to but it does what it’s supposed to from what I’ve researched. The stars of the show are the eye cream and moisturizer. I LOVE both of them. The smell is very light but nice and it doesn’t irritate my skin. It’s one of the best I’ve used truly and my skin has been feeling so nice these past few days. It’s nice to use and your skin feels it but it’s super light and you don’t feel heavy after using them. I am SHOCKED I like it as much as I do. The lip mask I skipped on and the mist is pretty nice as well. I don’t wear makeup and have never tried a mist but it’s like a shot of instant hydration and just makes it feel complete and that might be more placebo than the work it’s doing but it feels nice and looks good on the skin and I find the glow it leaves makes me feel good and that’s the objective. All in all I don’t usually support everything he does, I think people can vote with their wallet how they choose, but maybe if you’re on the fence or if you just want to try it, it’s worth it imo. I will be replacing my current regimen with it.

Strawberry OPINION! If I LIKE the scent of a skin product...I'll use it way more often, and I LOVE berry scents. Also...my fave eye cream had both mica AND yellow, and a month my pre-eye cream dark circles got lighter AND my post-eye cream finally got a pale enough color correct for me to look more healthy WITHOUT concealer. I'm also super pale so it's really hard for me to find a color correct pale enough for my pigmentation, so this was a happy accident for something I only expected to help shadow grip. I'm now more interested in looking at things marketed as an eye cream but have pigments and mica for low-key color correct.
