Interesting tutorial. I think for the most part you achieved a good match to the reference. It's interesting that you used the FPE without a CST node. The built in film looks in resolve tell you what colour space is expected prior to applying the LUT. The 2383 you used expects a 709 colour space, but in Cineon Log form. Looking at the image, I'm assuming it was captured in a wider colour space than 709 and likely not Cineon log. So your output post FPE Lut isn't a true emulation of the FPE LUT. Though, if you achieved your goal with your final image, then perhaps this can work for you. Mathematically, there's so much under the hood of a LUT and in some cases if a certain order of operations isn't followed it can lead to strange artifacts.
Great comment.
While this FPE method I did might not be the most technically "correct", it's what I found to be working eventually. I even tried CST to get Cineon Log but it didn't really look right.. even when I color real 16mm film for example, the FPE LUTs don't just work right off the bat since every lab scans a little differently so there's no real consistency or accuracy there.
At the end of the day it's all about the final product :)
Nice!!
Thanks Itai !
Always nice seeing you watching my videos 😛
Can you make a tutorial with the look from "The King's Man". When they fight against Rasputin, that wellow tone is beautiful.
Very clean!! I would be interested in which monitor you are using for that? and do you really need an extra device for color calibration to get this look?
Hey, thanks for watching! :)
I use a BenQ EW3270U which is a decent monitor, I calibrated it which is really important if you're doing professional color work but that's not 100% necessarily to achieve any particular look. It just makes sure what you're seeing on your own monitor is actually accurate.
What was the original gamma and color space for the footage you graded?
It was shot on the Red Helium, RedLogFilm I believe
@@YuvalAloni so I assume color space would be REDWideGamut
@@TristanKeener Yes. I downloaded this from Artgrid and the only info provided was camera type (not a RAW file)
