A bacon roll doesn't cut it to be called breakfast in first class; however if the cost of the journey, including the roll plus a couple of coffees, from London to Doncaster was really only £29 (did I hear that right?), then you can't complain.

Hull is an amazing city in the East Riding of Yorkshire and I have been on Hull Trains before and the Class 802 Paragon trains are lovely and quiet.

The bacon baguette looks good. Would be nice if they served it on a plate just to add a touch more class! 😀

Great that you got (albeit slowed-down) shots of the Newark flat crossing!
I travelled across it about 1 month ago going to/from York, but never realised it!

Enjoyed the video. Having worked most of my life in Central London, mostly Baker Street, great to get the view of fresh eyes on somewhere so familiar! As to the debate, ketchup or brown sauce… neither!

Thanks for an objective video. Of course LNER may have been more expensive (and not sure if breakfast is served by LNER after 0930) but its breakfast offering is superior.

Thank you very much for this excellent video. I agree with all that you say, and it is fine to have the complimentary breakfast in 1st Class, but First really should offer some onboard service to Standard Class passengers. From my own observations, Hull trains do load well, though LNER do provide better facilities on the services they run to Hull.

Hull Trains website advises the catering offering is being reviewed and it is hoped to have provision for standard class passengers by the end if the year. Re their first class catering it's always hard for a relatively small player like Hull Trains to match the big boy of LNER but, as shown, it was at least decent.
Re Hull Trains fares v LNER generally I find them less expensive but such as mid point travel, for example Hull to Grantham, could benefit from advance fares being reinstated rather than off peak being the cheapest.
Finally, for those that haven't visited the city, Hull is worth a day trip at least.

When will train companies stop using dull drab colours on trains and use brighter colour schemes

Onboard catering on the ECML is nothing like as good as it used to be in BR days. Back in the 1980s one could get an excellent full English breakfast or three course meal. Ok it cost extra, but was available to both standard and first class. Given the high prices one generally pays to travel in 1st class, they really should be offering something better than a bacon roll. Not offering any catering service in standard class is unforgivable. I’d opt for LNER anytime.

LNER food is a lot better than Hull trains as they offer food to standard and first Clara on LNER. Hull trains only offer food to first class. So I will never use Hull train due to food and ticket prices a lot more than LNER.
