Nice! I make my own charcoal on my clay oven too. I typically just dump water over it and spread it out to dry. I really like it a lot better than briquettes or cowboy charcoal ( that stuff snaps and pops like crazy) another plus is I use my wood twice and and it’s basically free. 😊
I make charcoal by filling a big popcorn tin with a 1/4 inch hole in the lid with wood and put that on a fire until it quits smoking. Works great and you don't end up with any ash.
That's a nice batch of charcoal Jerry , I make my own charcoal and use it for making black powder for muzzle loading. That batch that you made would last a lifetime for someone who uses it like I do.

I think I need a pizza oven. Haha! That would be so useful. I suppose you can make charcoal other ways but with a pizza oven I could bake bread and make pizzas!

It’s main purpose would be for disposal of all the branches that fall on my property. I guess if I put a damper in there I’d be able to make charcoal also. Currently I save my charcoal from the fireplace ash, but in one batch you already have so much more than I do from two months. It’s probably not worth my time but I don’t like to waste. When I burn branches I dig a little pit in the ground but I can’t really do anything else and must tend to it in fear of starting a bigger fire. This would be great. My wife and I have a mid-1800s poplar half-dovetailed dogtrot cabin in our barn in upstate NY which we intend to rebuild there on the farm for ourselves. We have all the original cut limestone for the 2 gable-end chimneys too, but we are looking for expertise in building the chimneys (1 especially for hearth cooking). As you can imagine your channel is of great interest to us! I would like to contact you offline to discuss some particulars of the cabin rebuild and especially the chimneys and fireplaces.
