  • Organist Todd Wilson accompanies the lead up to and the Chandelier falling scene in the Phantom of the Opera. Mr. Wilson has kept alive the famous tradition of live pipe organ accompaniments for silent films. The silent film was in its heyday in 1925 when Lon Chaney produced his silent classic “The Phantom of the Opera”. Though now almost 90 years old, this masterpiece from the silent era still holds our 21st-century senses with its abundant drama and humor; and the famous unmasking scene still packs quite a wallop!
Mr. Wilson’s improvised accompaniment assigns short themes to the primary characters and emotions, in the same manner as Wagner used leitmotivs in his operas. Though the fabric of Mr. Wilson’s accompaniment is entirely original, he draws freely on themes from a variety of composers and musical sources, often employed with wit and humor. We hope you will find this evening’s film a unique and entertaining multi-sensory experience!
This audio was taken from his performance at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Brooklyn, NY on October 17, 2014 and was synced with the 1924 edit (public domain) of the Phantom of the Opera. Enjoy. To learn more about the pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge click here: www.olrbrooklyn...

Sadly, that gorgeous opera house set at universal studios was torn down and a Harry Potter ride was built on top of it.

I think they tore the soundstage down, but the sets have been disassembled and spirited away somewhere. They are too historic for the studio to have been thrown away, they may be possibly waiting for the academy awards museum to be finished on Wilshire blvd
