  • Mizuno STZ230 Fairway Review The MISSING Piece ADDED in this to? That is the CORTECH CHAMBER...... Basically a large Blue lump of PVU material that houses a stabilising stainless steel weight to control the spin profile of the club. Concentrating on forgiveness and distance with usability on the forefront, lets test this new fairway wood from Mizuno to see if it can live up to its marketing claims.

    It’s a lovely looking club that once again, performs as good (if not a bit better) than anything out there.

    Super interested in this one the 3 Wood function in my bag has changed, and this might be right there with TSR2 in the way of fitting the need. Can't wait to test this one!

    Please explain to me how in the era of Justin Johnson using a 9wood how Mizuno is NOT offering a 7wood with this new release of non-draw woods. I've been waiting for this release and a 7wood for 12 months only for them not to offer it. This is like one of those WTF are they thinking moments?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před rokem +4

      Hi Paul, this is a guess and I could be wrong. But I'm guessing they aren't offering one is most likely due to the sales of previous woods hasn't made the offering of a 7 or 9 wood a feasible option. Creating each head isn't as easy as some people think as technology has different effects when loft is changed so basically every head has to be designed individually. So that's my guess.... Not saying its right, or that I agree, I think it would be down to money and the costs of creating them against sales etc...
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

    I would juggle my bag around to use this. I carry driver 3 wood 5 wood and hybrid so if i upgrade to these (and i do like the blue) i might lose the hybrid or have to get a more lofted hybrid.
    I would probably loft the 3 wood either to 16 (as that's what i do now) or 17 if this is going longer for me.
    5 wood is my fav club so this would have to be lofted up if i buy these.
    I will see how i start the season and think on it....but i do like the blue 😁

      As an all round decision yes, the new ST230 series have slightly different spin profiles to the old Z, yet for a golfer with extremely low spin generation the old Z could work better, but the vast majority of golfers, the new 230 would be slightly better. Its not by much in general though so if you have the older Z unless you like the looks much better apart from the fun testing I don't think they'll be huge amounts in it 👍

    I play 6 1/2 wood (7 with a 5 length shaft) and 9 wood. I'm getting towering draws with them, something I've never had before and much more consistency than the old 3w/5w set-up.

  • @mikesnowden1054
    @mikesnowden1054 Před rokem

    The ST-X 220 had a titanium 3W and a steel 5W. I've been Driver - 4W - 7w for years. Definitely interested in dialling down an ST-Z 230 towards a 4W loft (so Driver, 4.5w, 4H in Mizuno), rather than carrying Driver - 3W - 5W. I think, though, the Z is the same build for both 3W and 5W
    This testing is 3W, but any thoughts on how tight the lie feels stock?

  • @okimike5963
    @okimike5963 Před rokem

    Be interested to see how forgiving the roll and bulge are with path, FTP, and FTT variance.
    I tend to be low and/or toe off the deck with a 3w, but I’m certainly not under 1deg path and FTP. I get close to 1 net deg FTT (I.e. path 2.5 R and FTP 1.4 L), but see a lot of spin curve
    on off center strikes

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před rokem +1

      Great question and in reality tilt axus potential increases with ftp increases. I've always tried to deliver the club as close to zero as possible to control curvature. This also has the benefits of minimising unwanted tilt axis from off centre strikes. Tilt axis curvature tends not to follow an absolute linear line and curve increases with beyond the incremental degree axis. So basically if you are a draw player and toe the ball then you'll face larger tilt axis naturally than if, you did the exact same strike with a more neutral ftp relationship 👍
      Sorry for the technically descriptive reply 👍

      @@AskGolfNut thanks a bunch. The details are useful. numbers don’t scare me
      I bought a MEVO+ w/Pro pack last month. I was able to use it to resolve a hook problem I’d been suffering from, but still see a lot of curve with the woods the further away from center that I get. 4i has been my friend for the last year…
      I’ll work on some tiny tweaks to get a more neutral delivery. Seeing your vid on this today really made me think along that line
      Keep the great content coming

  • @stevewimmer9758
    @stevewimmer9758 Před rokem

    If you bought the 15 degree then increased to 17 wouldn't the face then be closed? If this offering is already a bit draw biased wouldn't that cause a left issue? I tend to hook my 3-wood already

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před rokem +1

      Depends very much on how you grip the club, resting the club on the ground would with the offset camber loft sleeve cause the face to look very slightly closer. However if you grip the club whilst hovering or in my case vertically as soon as I get a club out of the bag, it doesn't have any effect 👍

  • @bananaballgolfermbaya6908

    I was fitted for a Fujikura Ventus blue 6X. The fitter told me that as soon as I get the club, the new shaft has a break in period? Is this true? I almost feel like trading in the new shaft I get for the one that I used in the fitting process so I can go use it right away.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před rokem

      Errrr no. Breaking in would suggest that in some way the shaft is changing its properties over time, of which it isn't. Modern day shafts as extremely well made and the materials and processes they are made from mean that they don't change their properties. Only defects or wear would mean that a modern shaft will play differently as they defect or wear progresses.
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

  • @fransjooste2331
    @fransjooste2331 Před rokem

    In-depth as always, thank you. Would the STZ still be 'mid spin' if not paired with a very stiff/low spin shaft like the HZRDUS Green? I struggle with excess spin across the bag, so worried about it ballooning in the wind or loosing distance when paired with a Ventus Blue type shaft.

    • @AskGolfNut

    • @fransjooste2331
      @fransjooste2331 Před rokem

      @@AskGolfNut 90mph for 7i and 108mph for driver. I have played HZRDUS Black shafts before and they are fine when I am swinging well, but I struggle to consistently time really stiff shafts like that, thus the preference for a 'blue board' type profile

      Haven't actually hit the Stealth 2 fairway yet, if the old one was anything to go by, it was a fairly low spin rocket of a 3 wood. Really only good for the upper swing speed players.....

    Hi Jay Great Video 👍,dropped the 3Wood from my bag last year (not enough swing speed anymore) now use 5 & 7Woods both Stealth, they seem to be making the fairway woods more powerful now, not ideal for us with slower swing speeds😬, use 7Wood 90% of the time off the fairway’s great from any lie😊, need perfect lie for 5Wood, can’t believe Mizuno doesn’t make a 7Wood, Great review will test the 5Wood👍,Dickey 9hcp 76year senior golfer
