Thank you so much! After whacking away at the cylinder (unsuccessfully) all weekend, I bought a can of PB Blaster at Walmart yesterday. I sprayed it as you demo'd, and let everything sit overnight. Next day, It popped out with two taps! Thanks for sharing!

I was able to get the center piece out without a hammer. I took the wheels off, moved it to the corner so I could use the walls for balance, folded a thick cardboard box and placed it under the metal piece so I didn't mark the carpet, straddled the feet, and jumped a few times. It popped right out. A light person might need to make it a two man job, but it's doable.

Did you remove the retaining clip that holds it there? I'm at 4:31 and I don't see where you've done that yet. Appreciate the video! :)

Hit what and where you left out the most important part, all I took from this was to hit it which I have done. You spent 4 minutes on PB blaster and a sand hammer but 0 seconds on actually removing it

After you hit it it just falls out. The other side is just some screws to remove the chair bottom. I dont think I understand what you are trying to say?

I got the base feet off no problem. I can NOT get the damn thing OUT of the bottom of the chair.

Let me look at one and see if I can come up with an idea to help

My first thought is to take a couple cinder blocks and put the piston inside the hole, take a piece of wood (2x4 or so) on top of the piston and smack the hell out of it to pop it loose.

@@captainandmissunderstood No no... I got the base off. I can't get the pipe thing out of the plate under the chair. It's rusted in place I think. I had already bought a new piston, so... screw it, I have two chairs both need fixing. The other one came off without much problem so put the new cylinder in that one. (which is the chair that is pure crap, NEVER buy faux leather. Stuff starts shedding black bits everywhere.) The one I hoped to fix is genuine leather. Worth fixing. Plan B was to just replace the whole base plate. WELL GOOD LUCK finding the right size. 6x5.5 inches. NOT to be found.
(I detest these shock piston chairs. Always have. Wish I could find a good old fashion SCREW base. Yea you have to get up and spin the chair to adjust it but that thing will NEVER just sink. All antiques now, and a fortune. Why can't ANYONE make a basic metal screw anymore???)

@@artmakersworlds I get it. Im saying put the plate on something where the piston can hang and beat the hell out of the rusted piston from the top down. If it’s rusted try soaking with straight vinegar and or pb blaster then wail on it.

@@captainandmissunderstood Ah, maybe take the plate off the chair? Ok, well let me run this past you. what that chair really has going on wrong is that it leans WAY back. Nothing to stop it. Someone leans back too fast and it's ass over tits. (lol) Looking at it closer I'm thinking I could just wedge something in the gap where it rocks and call it good. My fix for the sinking was three bits of wood and a few hose clamps right on that stem that's rusted in place. That's worked so far.
