Excellent tutorial. In just 6 and half minutes, it covers almost every aspect of the proper studio monitor positioning by showing how and explaining why. Mackie is so good for this kind of info. I own a few pieces of their equipment, and every user manual is a pleasure to read - so much extended knowledge, helpful information, common theory, and great "pro" suggestions. Should Mackie finally make a book, a sort of general tutorial for home-based music makers?
Still use my VLZ1604 all the time, its been very well loved and has never let me down! would love to try the monitors! Big love to the sturdiest gear in the biz!

Putting them on a desk like that is pretty much the worst position. Put them on stands and get them at ear level (if your room allows) and you will get a massive improvement in stereo image, depth and frequency response (of course it depends on the room acoustic properties how much of an improvement it will be).
Great video with useful tips! I recently replaced my studio monitors. I had them in use for 5+ years. I bought a pair Mackie monitors and must say that the quality is better than my previous monitors (I am not telling which manufacturer, don't want to piss people of)
I'm very pleased with my new Mackie's. I have a large rectangular room, but like most producers and musicians it is in no way comparable with an expensive studio, but it's fine how it is. I'm planning to buy some extra treatment, not sure what exactly but I will figure that out. Best regards, Emiel.
Yeah looking at the MR524 5" right now. How do you like the acoustic space controls?. I mix in a corner, and my old Bx5's dodnt have space controls..

Alex Ayers It’s not made crystal clear in this video, but the recommendation of no sub in this case is for the sake of accuracy and optimization during setup.

CR4's here, would dearly love something larger though. They are damn good for their size but still only 4 inch woofers

Well done video. It's yet another reminder that, no matter how much I love the looks and drivers on monitors like these or Focals or others, I will probably not like them for regular music listening.

Hi! is it a good idea to put the speakers horizontally?
While primarily designed for upright use, you can use Mackie monitors on their side, tweeters out, without sacrificing accuracy or fidelity. Some exceptions would be if the waveguide on a particular monitor set are designed for vertical only (like the horn on typical PA speakers ).

Anyone know where i can buy those beautifle white acoustic panels?
Frankly, this kind of foam panels are quite nice looking but not very effective. I've had some of the same type in my home studio, and even some difference is perceptible, it s a no match with the ones I ve constructed with rock wool. Whenever I grab a hammer my girlfriend calls the emergencies, but still with very few skill and gear I was capable of making them, and I m 200% you could too, for a way more affordable price, there are many tutorial on you tube to help you out.
They neglect to mention the serious problem of comb filtering that produces deep nulls in frequency response due to early reflections (off of table tops, mixing consoles, etc.) combining with direct sound from the drivers... KRK promotional videos make the same mistake. The moral of the story is, when seeking advice about this studio monitoring, placement and acoustic treatment, go after technically proficient material instead of the abbreviated promotional fluff. You might have to dig a little, but the results will be worth it.
Actually Hi fi systems sometimes can be way more great for a mix.
If i mix music and want to just listen should i buy these, are these still great to just listen to music to or should i buy hifi speakers, thank you.
If you enjoy a faithful reproduction of your music, studio monitors are an excellent choice.
What was the synth used for bass?
Looked like an Arturia midi controller. Really any bass synth would do. I have an iOs app on my iPhone called oscillator that I use for testing sometime. It's just a digital oscillator that you can tune with.

Come across a problem with my Mackie cr4s. Randomly the passive speaker will just disconnect and music will only come out of the plugged in one. Usually it fixes itself but it’s hasn’t been working for a few hours now.
Subwoofers should always be used. And placing the listening position on the middle of the room isn’t ideal. As you just stated with cancellation issues.
I can attest that having too large a sub in a small room is less than ideal. Freq. longer than the walls means most of the room becomes a null.

should NOT always be used, since it's studio monitoring BASICS. When you'll get comfortable with what you have - proceed with subwoofers

Do not use subwoofers, tilt speakers upwards... Are you kidding me?
I added a sub to my HR824s a couple years back and it honestly created more mixing problems for me than it solved
