I use deva curl they 100% cause buildup and I use a clarifying shampoo once a month and have no issues. Also if you use the wrong products from deva curl you will have a protein overload. Protein overload will cause dry hair. They have products with no protein. When I started using deva curl my hair stoped falling out. I think their products are amazing but the buildup needs to be removed.

I’ve talked to my husband who works for one of the largest beauty manufacturer company of the world. He thinks that devacurl must’ve changed their formula within the last few years with cheaper ingredients. Some larger companies do this to make even more profit. Devacurl will not come out and talk about this because that will be millions of dollars gone in profit. The ingredients they’re using must be the issue. Obviously the formula was good at one point, but seems like they got greedy and wanted more profit. What will most likely happen is word of mouth will make them go under. The more people talk about it the better, this SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. Beauty product should not be doing this to anyone. Please do not use these products if anyone out there is!

@@alyariel9713 yea I keep seeing that once the ownership changed the problems seemed to have started. So unfortunate because many people go to devacurl thinking "this is the one line for my hair". Again I'm sure once upon a time it was a great product line. Unfortunately some brands, or I should say brand owners... get greedy and are just looking at that $$$ instead of the integrity of their product and safety for consumers. I myself just started embracing the CG movement 2 months ago and almost bought Devacurl products... glad I never did. I'm thankful for people spreading awareness to protect others, super important and I hope people continue.

@@alyariel9713 see I didn't want to fork out the money on devacurl either, and I can get it cheaper at Cosmoprof... and still didn't buy it lol. Shea moisture is a line I haven't fully checked out yet. So far I've been using As I Am cowash, Curls Blueberry Bliss, and Kinky Curly Custard. I plan on picking up and trying AG's more natural line and seeing how that goes. At least with AG's natural line it's 98% plant derived and gluten free. Some companies just have the consumer in mind, and some do not. I think Devacurl did at one point but the dollar sign got in the way with a new owner. I will continue to repost this message in hopes people will listen. My husband was like, yea people should not be touching this stuff, and the company he works for is massive. He understands ingredients and what they do and something is not right with Devacurl's products.

Danyelle Jones I know what natural hair mean. I’ve been apart of the natural hair community for well over 10 years. I can’t name nan one law that bans curly hair. But I can name a ton that ban kinky hair. Which was the catalyst to the beginning of the natural hair movement

Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm so glad I've come across all these videos of curly girls talking what I've been going through with my hair! When I started the CG method in Sept 2019 (also cut all my hair off), I used Loreal Ever Curl as my shampoo/conditioner and DevaCurl light defining gel as my styler. I immediately noticed my hair was becoming extremely dry and frizzy and I was losing a ton of hair. I only used the Ever Curl for two weeks and finally looked up the ingredients and noticed it contained drying alcohols so I attributed the hair loss/damage to that. I was also using the DevaCurl light defining gel that I had been using for years even before the CG method but never used other DevaCurl products. Since starting the CG method my hair has never been the same. It is super frizzy, much lower density, stringy, less curly, less ringlets/clumps, doesn't hold curl, just weird and awful looking! I've wanted to give up so many times on the CG method thinking that it just wasn't for my hair but maybe once I start using different products, it will get better. This sucks!

Omg I lost it when you said the dandruff spot, I had scaliness/flaking, itching, redness and thinning at my left temple for so long, and I also didn't consider my Deva products. For me, I thought I was using too much dry shampoo and not washing enough. Then I said screw it, bleached my hair blonde, got a bob, and wore it straight for like 3 months...lo and behold, after 3 months with no Deva products, I no longer had the itching, flaking/scaliness or redness on my temple, and I had a bunch of little sprouts of hair growing back in. I noticed and though, wait this makes no sense, I was washing my hair using purple shampoo regularly, using heat to style every time, and had double processed my hair, why is my scalp better and fuller after going blonde? Then I saw a video by the curl ninja, and finally it clicked.

About 2 weeks ago I had no gel to put my hair in a ponytail. So I used my old devacurl gel I hadn't used in so long. Immediately the next day i had and itchy hairline amd tiny scabs along the hairline as well. I was getting so concerned about the scabs I showed my boyfriend and thought I was getting psoriasis. After I had washed my hair a few times the scabs went away and I thought it was due to cold weather. Then I see a bunch of videos on devacurl. I cant believe their gel actually caused me to get scabs on my scalp. I really was about to go to the dermatologist.

itchy scalp was the biggest thing for me with devacurl products, second was hair loss and frizz. i had bought the cream styler and gel in may 2019. With the cream styler the itching lasted for 2 months after using it only a few times. and with the conditioner, the hair loss was immediate after each usage. Btw AG hair products were open in another tab before i started this video. I think i'll try them, although it's hard to trust again lol

I was having thee same issues with devacurl in late 2018/ early 2019. My hair was looking EXTREMELY dull and dry. And I had to cease use because my scalp was becoming itchy and dry and dandruff riddled. I was honestly embarrassed thinking that maybe its something about my hair or maybe I wasn't doing something right. I just stopped using it, my hair improved and kept it at that. I was stunned that so many people are coming out now with issues about devacurl and now I feel SO much better about my experience.

Just stumbled on this video. I used DevaCurl products on my hair 5+ years ago. I liked them at first but after almost a year, they began to weigh my hair down. It's distressing to hear these stories of how DevaCurl is ruining hair. When I think back to when I used it, I did have an itchy scalp but never attributed it to the products I was using. After a few other brands in between, I switched to All About Curls by zotos purchased from Sally's. Finally products that worked and were affordable. I also invested in a shampoo brush purchased from amazon. It's all silicone and massages the scalp to prevent hair breakage and promote a healthy scalp. Your hair is beautiful, BTW! So glad to hear you got it back to where you like it. :)

I began having similar problems with my hair and scalp for at least 6 months, in hindsight, probably less so for a year. The problems finally became intolerable about 2 weeks ago, but I had been using an Herbal Essences product and Tigi products. I started researching what would change the texture of my hair and finally ordered some new products- which of course worked miracles instantly. Thank you so much for talking about your scalp issues and what you experienced with DevaCurl, (my hair never liked DevaCurl) becuase it sounds like my issues are almost identical to the problems people had with DevaCurl. Now I will throw out all of my formerly trusted products and work towards a new hair care plan. I can't help but wonder how many products are having similar issues.
