    The main rotor is spun up by a smaller motor called a pre-rotator. This gets the main rotor spinning at a RPM where it can generate lift. As the gyro lifts up, the pre-rotator is disengaged and rotor starts to slow down, so the pusher engine is given more throttle to get the gyro moving forward. This forward motion pushes the main rotor enough to replace the lost RPM and the gyro continues rising. Not all gyros can do this kind of zero-distance takeoff roll, but many can.

    The designs have been improved with more actual wing area. They have been able to reduce the drag from the rotor and are now able to achieve much higher plane speeds as a result. Take a look, they look great and I am sure they may have a great affect on the aviation industry. People like me, probably never be able to fly in one.

    The "ears" are full of lead or depleted uranium to add mass in order give the rotating blades enough energy for lift off. The weight also allows the blades to stay straight in high speed flight with low rotor rpm.

    Now I visited the page of the manufacturer and understood that this is an autogyro, capable of transferring the driving force between the propeller and the rotor, allowing vertical takeoff
    Unlike a conventional autogyro.
    I want one of these!

    Nice machine but it seems every time it lands short the whole tail assembly looks like it wants to twist off of the rest of the airframe.

    Please tell me why the initial lift off is so sudden, surely it should be more progressive ?

      Because they run up the blade rpm then change the blade pitch to create lift from the stored energy. That pitch change is a binary event and not easily controlled.The excessive energy is all used within 50 feet of vertical after which the blades maintain lift by way of being pushed through the air from the rear thrust prop.

      @@PaulAnthonyDuttonUk Likely stressful on the aircraft & airframe though. Conventional helicopters try to avoid VTOL for that reason; it's preferable to "taxi" and rise more gently.

    Great to see this bird up-and-flying with jump-takeoff and the one near vertical landing . My deposit check is in the mail! Suggest a pro cameraman for Phase II test flights.

      What happened to development on this bird? Carter has been working on a derivative for Uber flight challenge but this one has great potential and should be brought to market for longer hauls.

    IT'S FAR TOO BIG!!! THE HAWK 4 IS BETTER, ALSO HAS 4 SEATS AND IS SMALLER AND LOOKS BETTER. IT HAS A MORE TRADITIONAL ROTOR (CHEAPER) AND TAKES OFF VERTICALLY JUST AS WELL.

    This aircraft has a bad habit of pratfall during landing. Is likely to damage the aircraft. There is a need to review the design. I hope to be reborn in a good aircraft.
